Since 2012, hundreds of wonderful people from all over the world have volunteered with us. We are very grateful for all they do. Some come for two weeks; most come for two or three months and some stay for a year! Others come back for a second, third or even fourth visit. It's best if people come for at least 2 months. This gives time to settle in and experience a lot more.
We live in a small, traditional west of Ireland village which has a theatre, sculpture centre, nice pubs and lots of sports clubs. There are lots of hill walks and outdoor activities nearby and we are a 30 minute drive from the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby are three larger towns with public transport (train or bus) to Dublin, Belfast, Londonderry and Galway. The closest airport is 1 hour away, with flights from Britain and Europe.
I enjoy nature, people, animals, theatre, music, arts, community interests, as well as history, politics, peace studies & faith. We attend a small local church but we're not "religious freaks" and you are welcome to come along.
We are very grateful for all our workawayers' help and friendship. Many have become our very good friends and if you read the reviews you will see that the vast majority have had a very good time here.
Sometimes our work priorities change by the time you get here, so you need to be the sort fo person wo can cope with change! In the 8 years we have had helpers, those who have the best time are positive, friendly, open, gentle, committed to working together and helping each other; and know to make the effort to enjoy themselves. It's true in life! Be curious! Ask questions! Be willing to learn! - and enjoy yourself!

At our home you will have a good experience of Irish culture, history and contemporary issues. I organise cultural education tours and enjoy exploring history, culture, politics and current affairs. We will love to hear your thoughts and opinions and to learn more about your home, family, culture and life.
We also provide each person with a Campus Certificate in Voluntary Service. This is a good resource to add to your CV / resume when applying for a job as increasingly employers are looking for what distinguishes you from all the other applicants.
Contact me today and let me know if you would like to come and help us!
The Daily Routine
We normally are busy 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, but it can sometimes include weekends. The hours we work can vary each day and if we are busy one day, you can take time off another day. We usually start at 9.30 till 2.30 and then someone prepares dinner in the evening. This leaves most of the afternoon free. But sometimes help is needed later in the afternoon and our times may have changed by the time you arrive. The weekends are different and you are usually free, and if you help at a weekend you can take time off later. Please note, you provide for your own meals at the weekend and I really encourage you to go and explore the surrounding area and other parts of Ireland.
These are the areas of work.
1. House work, cook and clean.
2. Outdoor help, gardening and site work. Help with our horses.
3. Social media, for our community tourism magazine. [You need good English for this.]
We really need the help of a good graphic designer for the next few months to help with the magazine - someone experienced with In-design software.
You will be required to help in all areas. Be flexible. Enjoy working with others and on your own. Communicate and work hard!
You will need to bring your own laptop or a tablet and it is best if you buy a SIM card in the local shop. It's only €20 a month and gives you unlimited data.
Ireland is a beautiful green country, but can be wet [at times] - wait a minute, it's dry ... nope, it's raining! Because you will do some outdoor work, please be sure to bring
1. your own pair of work boots
2. a warm waterproof jacket
3. work gloves, if you wear work gloves when helping outside.
4. your own lap top computer, especially if you plan to help with office work.
English, some French
We live in a townhouse in the village and the volunteers sleep in a caravan beside our house. The caravan is a unisex and everyone is required to respect each other. The shower and toilet are in our house. At present we have only 1 or 2 volunteers.
We use our own phones for Wifi in our house, and you will need to buy a local sim card that gives you unlimited broadband access for just €20 a month.
We have meals together and, if you are asked to cook for everyone, we welcome you to try a recipe from your country. We ask that you help with washing up and keeping the place clean and tidy.
We know that volunteers want to experience Irish culture and see the country, so we encourage you to travel on your days off to explore Ireland. Galway, Derry, Belfast and UNESCO world-heritage site, The Giants' Causeway, Slieve League cliffs - the highest sea cliffs in Europe, all make excellent trips for your free days, either at the weekend or during the week. I have plenty of experience with tourism and can help you plan your trips.
Lookig forward to hearing forward to hearing from you soon.
