Here's your chance to live like an Alaskan musher living off the grid, but still close enough to town for beers and social life. You're going to love the neighborhood which is the forest and wild animals. You can learn how to run a home that's on solar, generator, hauled water, propane and heating oil. It is an entire operation that you won't be having the responsibility for, but can definitely learn and might need to step in at times.

    - Welcoming someone last minute that can commit till mid-end of January. I will be around at this time with the entire dog yard and main focus is to train dogs and get them ready for the long winter.

Looking for someone responsible and adventurous to live in my cabin this winter and take care of the remaining dogs I leave behind, when I take one team out for a 2-3 month long expedition. There will be about 6 adult dogs left and 2 puppies. You will have your own dog team to train, feed and love while I'm gone and the amounts of training and schooling we have to do before I leave - is extensive - for you to be comfortable with my dogs and the place you're gonna live.

I plan to leave mid-january and be back the latest mid-april. This depends on how the winter unfolds and there's no certainty to how long I can be out if spring arrives early. I need someone to commit for 3 months as the longest as we need at least two weeks together before I leave.

You will have your own dog sled, your own cabin, your own car. The freedom to roam around is definitely present and exploring Fairbanks area, but you won't be able to leave the dogs behind for more then an overnighter unless you bring them. The place has a great amount of trails around connecting to other trail systems and so there's great opportunities to camp out for days leaving the house with a dog team.

    Dog care wintertime:
    - Daily feeding, watering and poop scooping
    - Training in the neighborhood on trails with your own team
    - Walk dogs one on one with a tire at times
    - Change out straw in their houses and make sure they're set up for the cold
    - Lots of cuddles

    Other chores:
    - Keep your wood stove burning and your wood stacked and kindles made
    - Haul water in 5 gallon jugs for your own water
    - Puppy training (they will be 5 months by the time I leave you with them)
    - Plow the road with the plow truck

Other possible projects to do if interested:
    - We have a lot of wood cleared that needs to be bucked, split and stacked for next winters wood use
    - Clean up some trails in the neighborhood
    (This requires chainsaw experience though)
    - Minor building projects

    - It would be best if you have experience with dogs from before but not a must!

    Other qualities:
    - Drivers license
    - At least 21 years old
    - Athletic (these are some big and determined dogs that can easily pull you over)
    - Reliable and self-starter
    - You're fine with being alone at times

You will need excessive amount of good winter gear to stay here as it gets really cold in Fairbanks. Below is a packing list and there is no exception to this list if you're going to make it here and have fun in the long winter months.

LIST of gear for WINTER is:
    - Wool base layers + wool socks
    - Mid layers thick like fleece or wool
    - Fleece pants or thick sweat pants
    - Down jacket / Parka
    - Insulated pants or bibs
    - Beanies, mittens, gloves, neck warmer
    - Winter boots for the sled. Must be 1-2 size too big to fit extra socks / liners.
    - Any work clothes that can be afforded to dog work and handle scratches etc.

**Anything warm you've got you should bring!**

    - Tell me about your self
    - What skills or experience you have that's relevant
    - What dates or timeline you're looking at
    - Tell me what you are looking to get out of it
    - Your expectations

The cabin is a dry cabin 100 yards behind the main house. It is equipped with a kitchen, living room, an outhouse and a bedroom loft. It has no running water, but water jugs where you get water in town and a bucket underneath the sink. It's the classic Fairbanks way of living :) Wood stove is the only heating source and wood is supplied for the winter.

The main house is a 2400 sqft log home with running water including a shower, washer and fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom will be available for showers and washer.

We live 40 minutes outside of Fairbanks town.
