Beschreibung
A retired couple has recently taken over an equestrian property with 7 horses and 4 ponies in Occitanie. Formerly a veterinarian, osteopath, and riding instructor, we have kept our horses and maintain them in work for their health and our enjoyment.
We do no longuer have a commercial activity with the horses.
We are looking for people with at least some riding experience to help with daily care: mucking out, cleaning the stalls in winter, distributing hay and feed. In return, in addition to room and board, lessons and trail rides are possible depending on your interests, riding level, and the weather. You will be able to learn about ethology, the daily life of horses in a herd, their behavior, and their needs. We love welcoming people from all over the world to share our daily life caring for horses, and we enjoy speaking English or Spanish, but French speakers are always welcome.

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
Sylvie: 65 years old, a former Parisian with a family background in French socially conscious music and culture, I am still passionate about reading plays and the fine arts. I speak English and Spanish fairly fluently. A professional in the equestrian world, I can give you riding lessons and trail rides outside of my farm help hours. Following a serious fall from a horse, I have lasting physical effects, which is why I need help with the more physically demanding tasks. Eric: 66 years old, a veterinarian, equine osteopath, and equestrian tourism guide, can also teach you a great deal, in French, about animal care, pasture and building maintenance.
Arbeit
The help may seem quite physical the first week, but you quickly get into a daily routine. There's always someone with you for most tasks, and I try to have two people to assist. However, it's best if you're fairly athletic and definitely not overweight. You'll learn more about the daily lives of horses, the challenges involved, their behavior in a herd, how to ride them best to preserve their movement and well-being, and the daily care they require, as well as pasture management throughout the year. Most of them were born here, and we accompany them until their final journey.
