Welcome to our shelter for stray dogs in Greece! Our mission is to provide a better life for homeless dogs and give them the opportunity to find a loving home. To achieve this, we need the support of dedicated volunteers who share our passion for animal welfare.

The dog shelter is located in the Pelion Mountains just outside the Greek village of Argalasti, surrounded by beautiful nature, mountains and the sea.

As a volunteer, you will take on a variety of tasks to ensure the well-being of our dogs. Your main duties will include daily care, such as feeding, cleaning the kennels, and taking the dogs for walks. Many of our dogs have never known a proper home, so training and socialisation play a key role in preparing them for successful adoption. Your help in taking photos and videos for our adoption platforms is also crucial in giving these dogs the best chance of finding a new home.

In addition, working at the shelter involves general maintenance and repair tasks. Keeping the facility in good condition is essential to provide a safe and clean environment for our dogs. We especially appreciate volunteers with practical skills who can assist with minor repairs and upkeep.

Accommodation is provided in a house in the nearest village (Argalasti), which is only a short walk from the shelter. Here, you’ll have the chance to experience Greek culture and hospitality, and explore the beautiful surroundings in your free time.

If you are an animal lover, reliable, and motivated, we would be happy to welcome you to our team and make a difference in the lives of these dogs together.

Your main responsibilities will involve supporting the daily care of our rescue dogs. This includes feeding, basic grooming, and making sure the dogs are happy, healthy, and well looked after. Regular walks and basic training are also an important part of preparing them for adoption, so your involvement will make a direct difference in their journey to a new home. Puppy socialization is also vital: be prepared to snuggle with a bunch of enthusiastic little furballs!

In addition to dog care, we also need help with general shelter maintenance. This might involve small repairs, cleaning, painting and other practical tasks around the property.

If you enjoy being creative, there are also opportunities to get involved in our rehoming work—taking good photos of the dogs, writing short descriptions for their profiles, helping us share their stories, or even creating Instagram reels and content if that is up your alley. These contributions are a huge help in finding the right families for each dog :-)

    Unterkunft

You will be staying in a traditional Greek village house located in the heart of Argalasti, in the Pelion region. The house is large and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, perfect for volunteers who enjoy simple living and being part of a community.

The house has a neoclassical layout, with a central hallway and rooms of equal size on either side. On the ground floor, there is a spacious kitchen and dining area, a large bathroom, and a bedroom. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor, where there are three more bedrooms and a living room.

Heating is provided by a wood-burning stove. You will likely be sharing the house with other volunteers, so all common areas are shared.

Outside, there is a stone-paved courtyard with an orange tree offering shade during the summer months, and a garden area to the side. If you're staying longer, you're welcome to create a vegetable patch and enjoy the fruits of your labour :-)

The house is situated in the village of Argalasti, which offers a range of local amenities including two supermarkets, a pharmacy, a butcher, a bakery, and a weekly farmers’ market on Saturdays. There are also plenty of tavernas and cafés where you can enjoy the local culture and cuisine.

A fishmonger visits daily with a refrigerated van selling fresh fish, and there is regular public transport to the nearby town of Volos (about 45 minutes away), to the sea (15 minutes away), and to other surrounding villages.
