At the moment we have two openings 2025;
▪️March - animal care, general maintenance and preparing for spring
▪️May - house sitting, keeping an eye on big animals, taking care of small animals and popping in to our lovely neighbour for a cup of coffe and a chat.
If you are interested to work with us please read our profile and check the calendar before you apply. This is a rural area so if you like nature and forest this could be a match. If you prefer a crowded pub - no match. The area around here says to be one of Scandinavia's most beautiful places and it´s located just outside Gränna in the deep fairy-like John Bauer forest of Småland. Our farm´s history goes back all the way to the 18th century. Today it´s a small family business with agriculture, forestry and animals: hereford cattle. There´s also some sheep, ducks, horses, rabbits and of course a couple of dogs.
The family consists of farmer Petter and his wife Jenny. We´re easy going people and workaway gives us an opportunity to see/meet the world without leaving home. As a farmer weather and animals runs your life but we like to take shorter trips and are more than happy to show our volunteers this beautiful area and our way of life.
Our work list is long and includes both small and big projects but an annual review would look something like this:
▪️Jan-Feb - animal care, general maintenance
▪️Mar-Apr - carpentry work, repairs, animal care
▪️May - fencing, firewood, garden work
▪️Jun-July - hay harvest, garden work, fencing
▪️Aug-Sep - grain harvest, cleaning, firewood
▪️Oct-Nov-Dec - firewood, animal care, cleaning
Food: we eat meat (pork, beef, lamb, chicken), dairy products, eggs and of course vegetables. So if you have special diet request like vegetarian/vegan/pescatarian this is not the place for you.
If you´re interested in applying please read our profile and include the following information in you application:
▪️Appr arrival/departure dates.
▪️Describe the work you´re interested in and what skills you can contribute with or would like to learn.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Perfect oppportunity to experience rural life in Sweden. Forest and lakes are nearby so if you are in to hiking, fishing and nature this is a perfect spot.
Arbeit
We offer workawayers a (hopefully) pleasant stay with varied tasks depending on season, weather and of course your interests and skills. For example fencing, shearing sheep, carpentry work, caring for animals, cleaning barn, harvesting hay, gardening, cutting firewood and maintenance of machines and buildings. If you know your away around tractors, chainsaws and other tools that’s great but not necessary.
Daily chores includes feeding animals and cleaning barn. Besides that there is a number of small and big projects to take on for anyone who can work independently like building gates, fixing fences and misc repairs. So if you are a Jack/Jane of all trades you can find interesting challenges here.
If you like country life but prefer other chores help in the house is always appreciated. That means cooking, baking, cleaning etc.
We usually work long hours and help is really appreciated but we don´t expect our workawayers do to the same hours as we do. We follow Workaway rules and expect 4-5 hours, 5 days a week and of course this is flexible.
However we do expect our workawayers to be responsible, honest and reliable. If you have specials skills thats great but most important is to be interested and not afraid of trying and learning new things. Farm work can be both boring and dirty so if you can´t deal with hard work and dirty hands this is not the place for you. We also prefer our workawayers to be at least 20 years or older.Gesprochene Sprachen

Accommodation is offered in one of our guestrooms or if you prefer a tent in the garden that could be arranged too. Also plenty of room for camper van etc.
You'll live as a family member in our old house with internet, TV, laundry a s f. If you like you can bring bedlinnen, towels and such otherwise we can provide that. Most important is to bring comfortable working clothes and shoes. Was noch ...
Please note that we are located in a rural area and driving license is good. Public transportation is 6 km away, nearby towns are Jönköping 30 km and Gränna 15 km.
We don´t expect you to be a trained proffessional (even though you are very welcome too) but we expect you to be interested and willing to learn. We love to hang out and share meals with you even though we work a lot. Also remember: this is a rural area which means that you have to be able entertain yourself the rest of the time.
To all our previous helpers (2014 - 2024) thank you ever so much - we are very greatful for all the help!Etwas mehr Information

It's been a while since my stay at Petter and Jenny's lovely rural farm, but I wanted to share my feedback.
I began my Workaway experience on April 3rd and stayed until the 30th. It was an amazing month filled with a variety of tasks, and the weather really showed off its full range. From a massive snowstorm the day before I arrived,… read more

Vivien is a bit quiet and didn´t appear to be interested in interacting with us or discover the surroundings. However to each his own and I hope he enjoyed his stay at our home. We certainly appriciate his hard work and wish him all the best in the future.
The food is also very good.
and I want to thank you again for the great time.
I had such a great time with you! I learned how to drive a tractor, how to survive a hot Swedish summer, build fences just to then chase animals back to where they were supposed to be and some Swedish, too. I enjoyed our conversations and discussions on politics, agriculture and basically anything -… read more

Christina came to our help on short notice and it has been lovely to work with her. Shearing sheep, triming fences, feeding animals and baking wonderful cakes - she did it all a lot more. Everybody loved her including the wasps :). Hopefully we get to visit her in the future at her very own farm.
Both Jenny and Petter as well as the boys and Petter's mom made me feel part of their family and the farm. I very much appreciated the trust that they gave me, leaving responsibilities in animal care and farming completely to myself. Irrespective of your capabilities, you will be given the… read more
