It was a pleasure to have Nelly and Eva staying with us. They did a great job helping us clear the garden and helping around the house. The planter they refurbished looks fantastic! Even though they were only here for a short time they helped us so much. Thanks again!

We stayed with Beate and her family for one week and it was such a great experience! It was short notice, so we were very lucky to get a chance to stay with them :) Even though we were only there for such a short time, we had the chance to get to know her and her family a little and they are very freindly and kind people.

As for work, we worked for 2-3 hours on weekdays. We helped with some organizing in the garage and did some gardening as well as cleaning. So it is a very very fair deal and Beate will make sure you are comfortable during your stay :)
Their home is about 10 minutes away from the next train station from where you will reach the city center in around 25 minutes, which was very practical.
I can truly, only recommend her and have nothing to complain about at all!

Beate lent us some bikes to tour Berlin and the last night she invited us to eat a delicious Pizza in a Italian restorant with her family. We had a wonderfull time with the family of Beate. They gave us a home-feeling in a really beautiful part of Berlin. We felt super welcome and the communication went perfect with Beate and us. Kiana and her friend Leon were such a great help and nice company. They cleaned up the whole garden, repaired our bicycles, repaired a shade (I would have had no idea how to do that), trimmed the bushes, cleared the roof and walls of ivy and leaves and cooked a dinner for us. … read more with the kids and that was really fun (the language barrier didn´t seem to be a problem). When they left the house they cleaned up their room very properly and even washed their bedclothes. That was a very nice surprise :).

Stephen & Kelly were awesome. they are a totally lovely couple and I just could highly recommand them to any host! They did a lot of work in the garden and removed a big bush and heeps of ivy from the ground. Even in non-working times I found them struggling with that ivy again ;). Being hosted by Beate was lovely. She is hospitable, flexible and very easy going. The neighborhood is a nice, upscale neighborhood of family homes about 5-10 minute walk to the nearest rail station or bus stop.

As far as the work and meals, we confirmed Beate's expectations of work time commitment and what meals would be like up front. This was great because we were all on the same page from the start. Beate also did a great job of keeping things simple and low pressure while working and otherwise.
We are very thankful for the time we got to share space with Beate and her family, it was great part of our introduction to Germany, the city of Berlin and workaway for Kelly and I. The “work schedule” was flexible and I had a great deal of free time to relax and explore the city, but it was always nice to go back home for dinner in the evening, I was even allowed to cook for the whole family a couple of times which was a real pleasure. I was staying there with another volunteer girl who had her birthday while in Berlin, so Beate treated us to a delicious birthday-lunch in a restaurant! THE BEST OF BERLIN!!
We enjoyed our stay with Beate and the kids. She was so helpful to us and easy to talk with.
She shared her life with us for a little over a week. We did quite a bit together. We met her friends, went swimming at a nearby lake, had a picnic at a park and had dinner with her family in the city.

… read more energetic woman who keeps busy juggling her job and the kids. She is a great cook and we enjoyed having chats about Berlin and life.
Our room was spacious and comfortable in the basement downstairs. We had our own bathroom and such.
The work involved weeding her pathways, cutting back bushes, cleaning out leaves from grates, mowing the lawns and sweeping. Quite a bit of work still to be done. There was always something to do.
The property was a 10 minutes walk to the nearest metro to reach the inner city, which took around 20-30 mins to Berlin central. The house has many trees and greenery surrounding it and the neighbourhood is peaceful. It was a nice location to workaway at.
Beate managed to organize some bikes for us from friends, so we were able to spend a whole day cycling around the city. Thanks for that :)
All in all. This is a great workaway spot. Close to the city but still perching within the suburbs and nature.
