We are a kennel free street dog rescue located just outside of the beautiful resort/beach port towns of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Mexico on the sunny West Costa Grande. We are looking for caretakers for the 40 plus cats and dogs who are here at our shelter.

We have a lot of work needing to bew done in this old hotel we converted to the rescue Experience and having a leader mentality with the pack of dogs is a must as things can get out of hand if the ship isn't sailing smoothly. So while playing with the puppies can be a blast, there is much more to the job than that. Cleaning up after them is an endless task as is ensuring they are clean and well fed as well as working with them to ensure they are well behaved so they can get adopted out easily.
Mornings from 7 -11 Monday to Friday care takers needed... we looking forward to hearing from all of you dog lovers out there!

Our team is made up of local dog rescuers as well as expats from Canada and the USA

Our area of Mexico is culturally rich and has a nice welcoming expat community. And if you love dogs, you will be able to make a huge positive impact on each and every dog that live at out shelter. The communities of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are very welcoming towns and are a great way to get to know thew Mexican culture, traditions and language.

We work closely with a team of veterinarians and holistic naturopathic practitioners so you will learn much about the general health care as well as from local veterinarians. Over time, you will no doubt pick up the Spanish language and learn much about the culture here in this part of Mexio.

As advocates for the ethical treatment of animals, we are always on the lookout for like minded animal lovers to join our team of volunteers and live-in work-exchangers.

The ideal person for the position, is a person with a lot of energy, someone who is a critical thinker and has good common sense, we also look for someone who is open-minded, has a good sense of humor, the ability to work without supervision, is generally positive and happy and pleasant with the dogs. As well as a person who is willing to learn, help out in areas that they can see is needed, and follow and respect our rules.

We’re looking for people who are mature, positive and drama-free people and who will be comfortable with communal living and working with a team of like-minded people.

Volunteering at our animal rescue is a great experience and can be very rewarding, however, it is very hard work. If you are a person who lacks patience, or tends to watch the clock waiting for your shift to end, this is not going to be the place for you. Often times, the work here doesn’t always stop after 5 hours. When unexpected situations arise, they need to dealt with them accordingly and unfortunately, animals don’t keep their emergencies within a 5-hour shift time!

It's a dirty job but somebody has got to do it! FYI: If you are squeamish with blood injuries, veterinary treatments, or don't like to get dirty or clean poop, this isn't for you.

Speaking basic or fluent Spanish is going to make things a lot better for you during your stay so we suggest, if you don't already, get on that Duo-Lingo and brush up on your basic Spanish!

The minimum age to fill our volunteer and live-in positions: 20 years of age.

We provide a private room with a private shower and toilet and we provide shared wifi in the common areas. Also provided for live-in volunteers is coffee, tea, drinking water and basic food supplies.

    Term: 1-3 months or more
Hours: Minimum 5 hours a day 5 days a week
We provide basic accommodations a private room with a full washroom, wifi in the common area, a shared kitchen stocked with basic food supplies, like coffee, tea, drinking water, rice, pasta, beans etc.

Daily tasks include but are not limited to sweeping and mopping the kitchen, hall and lobby, feeding the dogs and cats, picking up poop, and cleaning the yard: sweeping, raking, playing with the dogs and doing some basic training with them as a group as well as one-on-one, giving out medicine, spending time with the resident cats. Doing inventory for food stocks in the kitchen as well as for basic provisions. Laundering the dogs' beds, giving baths to the dogs and helping us keep them happy and healthy.

We also encourage helping us with our social media presence by taking photos and videos of the cats and dogs and helping to share them on our social media pages. From time to time, we also need things to be done such as taking animals to the vet and airport, doing stray dog feeds, building improvements, fixing things around the property etc.

Your schedule here at the rescue will not always be fixed, the needs of the animals can come at any time of the day and always come first, so we ask for flexibility from you, and in return, we will also offer flexibility when you need time off.
