My husband myself and our 18 year old son live on beautiful Mayne Island BC
We are friendly and hospitable and look forward to learning from, and sharing knowledge and our love interest Gulf Islands with a workawayer.
Colin works from home and spends his downtime walking and biking around our beautiful island.
I ( Anne-Maree) love anything creative, particular creating art and working with wood and doing carpentry!
Elijah goes to school on Salt Spring Island by water taxi which is the highlight of his day. When he’s home he loves watching the ferries come and go and will talk at length about the various BC ferries! In summer he loves swimming at the various beautiful beaches. He’s a very sweet young man with autism and is well known on the island as he’s so friendly!
An ideal Workawayer will spend some time with helping us tidy and organize household supplies etc and has some experience with neurodivergent kids. You will spend time with Elijah working on life skills and just enjoying time together He loves music, fitness and yoga!
You may choose to visit Mayne Island for its serene natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and strong community spirit. Nestled in the heart of the Gulf Islands, Mayne Island offers a tranquil retreat where one can engage in various volunteer projects, such as organic farming, conservation initiatives, or assisting local artisans. A workawayer on Mayne Island would greatly benefit from a cultural exchange by immersing themselves in the unique and very friendly local culture and close knit community. They would have the opportunity to engage with the host family, island's residents, learn about their customs, traditions, and way of life.
This exchange would broaden their perspectives, foster cross-cultural understanding, and allow them to form meaningful connections with people from different backgrounds. By participating in local activities, events, and experiencing the island's natural beauty, a workawayer can develop new skills, broaden their horizons, and create lifelong memories.
