Hi! We’re an Italian-Mexican couple in our late 20’s/early 30’s living in the countryside of Ladispoli, a seaside town at 30km of distance from Rome.

    ABOUT US, THE HOSTS
I am Italian and my husband is Mexican, we both speak Spanish, Italian and English and we’re happy to share our languages and cultures and any tips or suggestions you might need during your stay here. We’re very open and friendly so you’ll not be lonely, yet you will be able to have alone time whenever you want since we offer you total privacy and your own apartment. I’ve been volunteering with workaway too and our intention is to make you feel at home and offer you to experience Italian life here in an authentic way, something you wouldn’t be able to do as a “normal” tourist: I know how different your stay can be if you experience the place with the locals.

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

We are Italian and Mexican, so you will get a chance to get in touch with two different cultures at once! We’re both happy and proud to share our language and culture and we’d love to learn about yours as well. We’d love it if you could teach us some words and some recipes of your cuisine and we’ll definitely ask about suggestions of places to visit in your country (we’re big travellers). We’re interested in connecting with people from different cultures yet we are totally happy to host you also if you share one of ours (i.e. if you’re Mexican or Italian).
We’ll show you how to cook typical dishes and suggest you the true gems of our region to visit. You can learn about life in the countryside in Italy and about growing vegetables.
We will give you all the suggestions you might need and we’ll share the true gems of our region for you to visit.
At weekends we can spend time together, go out to eat to the most authentic places, and plan some interesting activities (visit museums/monuments, archeological sites, medieval villages, go trekking, etc). If we get the chance we might even be your “Cicerone” (informal guide) in Rome and in Lazio region.

ABOUT THE TOWN AND THE ENVIRONMENT
The town of Ladispoli offers all the essential services and more. You’ll be able to go to the sea, shopping, eat amazing food and great gelatos. We are sorrounded by important archeological and natural sites and we’re in a really strategic position, since it takes about half an hour or less from basically any kind of activity: lakes, waterfalls, parks, archeological sites, museums, night clubs, you name it.

If you have a car Ladispoli is 5 to 7 minutes away, and Rome about 30/40 minutes away (might take more depending on where you need to go, traffic, etc).
If you don’t have a car, you can get to Ladispoli by bus (the bus stop is just in front of our house) and be at the very centre of the town in about 20 minutes. Timetables for the bus go from 6am to 7pm, and it passes every hour or two.
We have a car and go to Ladispoli often, sometimes even twice per day so you’ll be able to get a lift to the town or come home with us (according to our timetables) and we can go together for groceries.
Please note that there are no shops near the house, so you do need to go to town for groceries and other needs. On the other hand, we have three restaurants at walking distance from our house: a good pizzeria, an “agriturismo” (typical restaurant with local products grown right here in the fields) and a steakhouse.
If you want to go to Rome you can take the train from Ladispoli, which takes 30 to 50 minutes (depending on which stop you will need). The bus that passes in front of the house leaves you right in Ladispoli station.
It is also possible to get to Ladispoli by bike or by foot. We don’t suggest it because it’s quite a long way and some countryside streets can be dangerous for they’re not meant for bikers or pedestrians, but we can talk about it when you get here and maybe find you a bicycle to use.

    ABOUT THE WORK
We’ll be straightforward and tell you that we need A LOT of help here: since we both work full time and have a big house and a farm we aren’t able to keep up with everything. There are lots of things that need to be taken care of so we’ll have different tasks for you from maintenance and cleaning, to gardening, farm work, and others that might come up during your stay (diy projects, repairing stuff around the house, painting walls, etc.)

We live in a countryside villa with two apartments, one of these was my grandfather’s and since it’s an old Italian house it needs work. On the first days of your stay we will have our plumber over, renovating and fixing the bathroom.
While he works on the bathroom the first task for you would be to deep clean the house and then, as soon as he’ll be done, the bathroom.
Please note that you’d be living in this apartment and it only has this one bathroom, so it will need to be fixed for you to use it; meanwhile you will have to use our bathroom upstairs.
Next task would be to tide up and clean outside the house, and clean and store/throw away some stuff.
Then we would like to create a nice garden (the soil needs to be cleaned up and prepared for grass and flowers) and build a fence around it: if you’re into gardening and/or diy projects that might be pretty fun for you.
In between of these tasks you might be needed about twice per week in the fields, collecting vegetables.

We will give you instructions daily or weekly on what needs to be done and how; some days we might join you and work together but you’ll be usually working by yourselves so we suggest you come in couple or a group of up to 3 people.

We ask you 25 hours of work per week, ideally 5 hours per day 5 days per week, sometimes in the morning, others in the afternoon. But we are flexible so no worries, if you have special requests we can talk about it and arrange a schedule that works for everyone. You will have at least two free days per week, sometimes even more if the work is done earlier than expected or if you work more hours on the other days.
In exchange you will have a whole apartment just for you volunteers & basic food for your meals like pasta, rice, bread, vegetables etc. to cook yourselves.
You will need to take care of your own groceries if you want different food.
We will eat together at least once per week, mostly in the weekends.

The first 3 days of your stay are for us to get to know each other, try the experience and see if we feel comfortable together, if that works out and we both agree for you to volunteer here, the minimum stay is 2 weeks. Maximum stay is 1 month, but we’re open to longer stays if it works out.

Note that this is a countryside environment, so you’ll be in touch with nature, soil and animals/insects. If you’re not comfortable with it we understand it but we ask you not to apply. You will find yourself with dirty hands at the end of the day, yet at the same time you’ll be able to enjoy the Italian countryside and live in a quiet and relaxing environment, all being just outside of the nice town of Ladispoli and at 30 minutes from the eternal city of Rome.

    ABOUT THE HOUSE
You would be living in my grandpa’s apartment; it is an old Italian house so know there are no modern appliances and no air conditioning but we will give you a fan. On the other hand, you will have total privacy and a whole apartment for yourself (yet we live upstairs so whatever you might need you just knock on our door).
The apartment has a big dining/living room, a small kitchen with a table to eat, a bathroom with shower and a washing machine, and a bedroom.
The kitchen is small and very humble but fully furnished with pans, silverware, plates, glasses, etc (no dishwasher).
Please note that if you’re a solo traveler it’s possible we will also accept others workawayers and you might be sharing the apartment and/or the room.

    ABOUT YOU, THE WORKAWAYERS
We will welcome you in our home and offer you a friendly and familiar environment where you can feel at ease and comfortable.
Ideally we would like to host couples or groups of up to three people around our age; but we are open to any kind of volunteers as long as they bring good vibes, are willing and respectful of the place they’ll be calling home for a while. We don’t have big restrictions, you can come and go from the house as you please, cook and eat whatever you prefer. We do have a few basic rules though: please don’t smoke in the house (you have so much space to do that outside!) and don’t bring any strangers in, especially without asking us first. As long as you follow these simple rules and don’t come home drunk, don’t use drugs, nor intentionally destroy anything in the house, you’ll be more than welcome. Please know that in case any of these things happened we’d be forced to ask you to leave without advance notice.
If you read our description please write at the head of your message, together with the other words, the following: “countryside”

We will provide workawayers with basic food / ingredients (pasta, rice, bread, vegetables) that they will need to cook themselves. Different food or special diet needs is something they will need to take care of. We will eat together at least once per week, mostly in the weekends. I added this information on my profile too
