This is a small eco-hotel and regenerative project located about 45 minutes south of Zihuatanejo. Volunteers can have different areas of focus within the realms of social impact/community engagement and permaculture. For those volunteers looking to work on our permaculture farm, please note that you will also be asked to spend at least 50% of your time in the community leading projects.

We seek out volunteers who are interested in living in a rural community and learning about local life. Things move slowly here and a lot of time is spent on building relationships, so we look for people who enjoy being social and who enjoy community engagement. We also look for individuals with leadership skills who feel comfortable teaching and organizing projects.

    CURRENT NEEDS:

Turtle Sanctuary: Work with community members and sea turtles. We are looking for someone who wants to assist with daily work at the camp and help with fundraising/grant applications. You MUST have advanced/fluent Spanish for this project.

Community Development: We are actively looking for volunteers who would like to integrate into the community of Juluchuca and help out with our health, education and nutrition projects. This can be adapted to your skills and interests. Opportunities include teaching English, leading art projects (murals or other community art projects), leading wellness activities, building school gardens or helping to organize our annual spay and neuter campaign. If you have other ideas, we are always open to discussing that as well!

Permaculture: Support our work in organic agriculture at the hotel farm. This includes agroforestry techniques and permaculture design. Some experience required in farming and gardening, Spanish and community development.

Social Media, Communications and Fundraising Internship: We are currently looking for someone to help with our social media accounts and creating content for our blog. You would also work with our Social and Environmental Impact Manager on fundraising initiatives such as applying for grants or researching other outside funding for the turtle sanctuary or community projects. This is a volunteer opportunity with the potential to turn into a paid position! Message us for more information.

    Schedule:

Community Program: You will work with the Social and Environmental Impact Manager to create a schedule that works for you!

Farm Program: The work day is scheduled in two shifts - from 7am to 10:30am and 11am to 3pm. Each volunteer has the option to develop a personal project in the community, so the schedule will shift depending on the project.

What we provide: We provide food six days per week (2 meals per day), whether on the farm or in the community. You will have one day off and that day we do not provide food. You will live in shared housing (three bedrooms and one bath). The house has basic amenities but not much more. There is running water and electricity but this can go out sometimes.

    What we ask from you:

*Spanish skills!* At least a B2 level of fluency in Spanish is required. Very few staff members at the hotel speak English and even fewer in the community. As our program is strongly rooted in community development, having a solid base of Spanish is essential. Naturally, the more fluent you are the easier it'll be integrate with the team, community and get projects done.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Three-month commitment*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️: We're looking for people who want to unpack their bags and really get to know the place. Our project unfortunately isn't set up for people passing through for just a couple of weeks or even just a month. Read below to find out more!

A few more notes and some words of advice:

Volunteering in any country is both rewarding and frustrating at times; this experience is no different. *Give yourself some time to observe how things work before asking too many questions.* Remember that while this is a hotel, we operate outside of a small, rural and impoverished community (where all the staff are from and where we do our development work). The rate at which things change here is slow and the cultural context can be challenging for many, particularly if you are coming from a more developed country and are used to working in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.

With that said, volunteers normally get out of their service what they put into it. The rewards include improving language and other new skills, making new and lasting friendships, becoming acquainted with another country, its people, and its culture and making a contribution to Mexico’s rural economic development.

Remember that your attitude, outlook and energy you put into your service are what make the experience. If you're looking for a change of pace (it's a slow, simple life here) and the chance to support a project in ecological restoration, organic farming and community development, then the this experience may just be for you.

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to share the diversity of your home culture while also learning from the diversity of Juluchucans. Additionally, you will also learn about the diversity of your fellow PV volunteers and exploring how best to respect differences while serving as supportive allies as you go through this new experience together. The benefits of this cultural exchange include improving language and other new skills, making new and lasting friendships, becoming acquainted with another country, its people, and its culture, and making a contribution to Mexico’s economic development.
