This is a small eco-hotel and regenerative project, about 45 minutes south of Zihuatanejo. Volunteers focus on community engagement, organic and permaculture. Volunteers can be involved in one or more of these projects depending on their experience, skills, and interests.

We often look for people who are interested in living in a rural community and learning about local life. Things move slowly here and a lot of time is spent on building relationships, so we also look for people who enjoy being social and who enjoy community engagement.

    CURRENT NEEDS:

Turtle Sanctuary Coordinator: Work with community members and sea turtles! We are looking for someone to coordinate all turtle related projects. Some conservation and sea turtle experience required. *️9-month minimum stay*️ Message us for more info!

Community volunteers: We are actively looking for volunteers who would like to integrate into the community of Juluchuca and help out with health, education and nutrition. This can be adapted to your skills and interests. Opportunities include teaching in the schools, leading art projects (murals or other community art projects, teaching evening English classes, leading wellness activities, or assisting with the school gardens. If you have other ideas, we are always open to that as well!

Farm volunteers: Support our work in organic agriculture at the hotel farm. This includes agroforestry techniques and permaculture design. Some experience required in farming and gardening, Spanish and community development.

Marketing and reservations intern: We are currently looking for someone to help with reservations and marketing campaigns. You would work in the office with our local staff and also help welcome guests. This is a volunteer opportunity with the potential to turn into a paid position! Message us for more information.

    Schedule:

Community Program: You will work with the Social and Environmental Impact Manager to create a schedule that works for you!

Farm Program: The work day is scheduled in two shifts - from 7am to 10am and 11am to 2pm. Each volunteer has the option to develop a personal project in the community.

What we provide: We provide food six days per week, whether on the farm or in the community. You will have one day off and that day we do not provide food. You will live in shared housing (three bedrooms and one bath).

    What we ask from you:

Spanish skills! At least an intermediate level of fluency in Spanish is required. Very few staff members speak English and even fewer in the community. As our program is strongly rooted in community development, having a solid base of Spanish is essential. Naturally, the more fluent you are the easier it'll be integrate with the team, community and get projects done.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Three-month commitment*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️: We're looking for people who want to unpack their bags a little and really get to know the place. Our project unfortunately isn't really set up for people passing through for just a couple or a few weeks or even just a month. Read below to find out more!

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Some exceptions are made if we have shorter-term project needs. Just ask!

A few more notes and some words of advice:

Volunteering in any country is both rewarding and frustrating at times; this experience is no different. Give yourself some time to observe how things work before asking too many questions. Remember that while this is a hotel, we operate outside of a small, rural and impoverished community (where all the staff are from and where we do our development work). The rate at which things change here is slow and the cultural context can be challenging for many, particularly if you are coming from a more developed country and are used to working in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.

With that said, volunteers normally get out of their service what they put into it. The rewards include improving language and other new skills, making new and lasting friendships, becoming acquainted with another country, its people, and its culture and making a contribution to Mexico’s rural economic development.

Remember that your attitude, outlook and energy you put into your service are what make the experience. If you're looking for a change of pace (it's a slow, simple life here) and the chance to support a project in ecological restoration, organic farming and community development, then the this experience may just be for you.

As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to share the diversity of your home culture while also learning from the diversity of Juluchucans. Additionally, you will also learn about the diversity of your fellow PV volunteers and exploring how best to respect differences while serving as supportive allies as you go through this new experience together. The benefits of this cultural exchange include improving language and other new skills, making new and lasting friendships, becoming acquainted with another country, its people, and its culture, and making a contribution to Mexico’s economic development.
