Me and and my Swedish friend spent 10 days with Stephan and Cynthia. It was 10 amazing days. They gave us the opportunity to make our own schedule and focus on the things that we found interesting which was very nice. On the evenings we watched a series which we all got addicted to and they always had so good food (If you like cheese you will
… read more never want to leave the house!) tea and cookies. Both Cynthia and Stephan are really kind, down to earth and non-judgemental people and we really enjoyed our stay. The room we lived in was heated and me and Fredrika had one cat each sleeping next to us every night 🐈⬛ We also fell in love with the dogs, Panda (one of the dogs) is hands down the cutest dog I ever met and I will miss him so much! If you go here, give him a kiss from me! I would highly recommend this place to everyone!

I was familiar with this kind of project, but this was my first time with Workaway and it couldn't have been any better!

… read more for anyone seeking the perfect cottage-core experience. You'll live in an amazing wood with tall trees, small rivers, and charming countryside scenarios very close to Paris, so it's the perfect combo between city and nature. Your work will mainly be in the garden with the animals who are all extremely cute (the dog Télémache will immediately become your best friend) and it's quite effortless and chill. In this household, every workawayer is welcome to share their own knowledge and be helpful in their very own way. In my case, for example, I've been helpful with cooking most of the meals cause it's something I enjoy doing and what I've done has been really appreciated.
Let's talk about the hosts.
Stéphane is really nice and funny, he always finds ways to defuse any issue (I've made many mistakes cause I'm REALLY clumsy and we've always laughed about it). He's very curious, open-minded, and knowledgeable. He will share with you many useful notions about plants. He challenged me to do new recipes and particular tasks and it was great, cause I've learned so much and got out of my comfort zone in a very healthy way.
Cynthia is extremely cute. She's a great listener and likes to chat about many different topics and this will make you feel at home. She's always open to learning new things such as recipes and games and this makes you feel somehow special. I loved talking about environmental issues and eco-friendly solutions with her and I thank her very much for helping me "re-learning" how to bike with a lot of patience, she's been the greatest cheerleader :)
Django is a very nice teen, he's really polite, open and curious and very smart for his age, so you'll enjoy the time you'll spend with him as well.
Unfortunately, I've seen Calista only twice, but I really hope to hang out with her in the future cause she's really nice and friendly and will try her best to help you if she can.
If you're quite nerdy this household will be the perfect place for you, cause they have COUNTLESS (and I'm not joking) comic books of every kind which you're free to read and discover and it will be also a sorta of Animal Crossing, or Stardew Valley gameplay in real life.

I stayed there for two weeks and felt very welcome in their family. I had some everyday work (walking the dog, feeding the animals i.e.) and then other different projects - Little did
… read more I know, I arrived their place just in time for taking out the honey from the beehives! I also helped with a trail, a fence for the pigs and planting different plants.
The family is very kind, hospitable and generous. I have tasted so much good food, amazing wine and have learned a lot about so many different topics - from plants and herbs in the garden, about France, traditions to literature/comics and films. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for inspiring conversations!
I came to France with a goal of learning more about France and the French language. Cynthia, Stephane and their son helped me a lot with this.
Oh and their house is situated close to Paris and close to the woods. Could not have been better.

I spent two weeks with Stephane, Cynthia, Django and Calista. I would recommend anyone to come here. The forest here is beautiful, and Paris is super close with train/metro. They gave me a bike to use while I am here, so I can cycle around the area freely. Part of the job was to walk the dog, Telemache, which was quite a relaxing part. We had long
… read more walks together. Otherwise I took care of the garden by watering and weeding, and I fed the two pigs and 6 chickens, so nothing super hard. Although I had short time here, Stephane knows a lot about wild herbs: he teached me how to dry mushrooms, the use of some plants, so now I know hogy to recognize millepertuis/orbáncfű and some berries. Cynthia's english is very good, she is an excellent conversation partner, and I think she's a good person. We had family dinners together (Cynthia was making sure that I become familiar with french pastries), talks, I tried to help a little bit with english speaking for the kids, and we had a garden party in the neighbourhood, so I was very well included in the community. In addition to the valuable skills I learned working in the garden, I also learned a lot from talking with each of them about ecology and plant species, natural products, French politics and history, new foods, comics, philosophy, movies, etc. This was a true exchange of their knowledge, time, wisdom, and energy. It was my pleasure to stay with them, and I will miss our time together. You will leave here enriched no matter what subjects you're interested in!
The beautiful area and surrounding forest was also an added bonus. This is a warm and quaint community in the midst of beautiful landscape. I loved watching the leaves change color and hearing the sounds of the birds :-)

The two weeks with Ania were very nice for all the family! She is a very hard worker and could accomplish the work she had chosen in the garden (building a dry-stone wall) after her two weeks with us. She helped a lot in the house for cooking and all daily tasks. We shared a lot about the mexican and french cultures and that was so interesting!

Wow what a lovely family! Stephane and Cynthia were introduced to workaway by their daughter Calista who spent 1 year doing workaway in Europe. They are incredibly interesting, welcoming, fun and open minded people. Stephane is very knowledgeable and passionate about permaculture. We learned many interesting tricks from him!

… read more week and really enjoyed spending time with them, also in nature, working the garden, harvesting fresh ingredients, designing and building feeder systems for their chickens and general household chores such as cooking and cleaning. In the late afternoons we had time and drove our car to Paris to see the city on a few evenings (you can also catch a train).
The accomodation is very comfortable and the shared bathroom/toilet works well. They have a dishwasher and a piano which is nice for those who enjoy using it. Their cats are so soft, funny and cuddly, we fell in love with them. If you are a fan of manga, comics or farming books, you are in for a treat because their house is a library filled with these!
Their land is situated in a beautiful woody forest with an abundance of chestnut and acorn trees where you can hear the birds sing and the owls 'hoot-hoo-hoo' :) If you're lucky you might even spot some red squirrels like we did.
