Beschreibung
Hi! I’m Klara. I’m originally from Hungary, and I’ve been living in Colombia for 11 years with my Colombian husband, Oscar, who is an architect. We used to live in Bogotá, but about six months ago we decided to move to our finca in Boyacá for a quieter and healthier life in nature.
We bought this land eight years ago. At that time, we converted two shipping containers into tiny houses where we would spend weekends. Since moving here full-time, we have built two proper houses, so we don’t live in the containers anymore — those are now part of our project to turn them into a small glamping accommodation.
We live here with our one-year-old daughter, Alice, and my mom, who is a physical therapist. She moved from Budapest six years ago and now lives on the farm with us — it has become a real family project!
Our finca is a 6,400 m² property located between the villages of Guateque and Guayatá, about 2 hours from Bogotá. The climate is wonderful: half the year is sunny and dry, and the other half is rainy, but it’s never cold — it stays around 20°C all year.
We have many fruit trees (oranges, tangerines, avocados, lemons, guavas, plantains, coffee plants…) and the nearby villages are full of fairs, festivals, and local celebrations. There are always tourists around, which is why we’re preparing the containers as glamping rentals.
That’s where we need your help!
We’re looking for someone who enjoys being outdoors and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Tasks include gardening, mowing the lawn, planting, weeding, and general farm maintenance, plus small building projects such as a chicken coop, a “guinea pig village,” and other improvements around the property.
No experience is needed — just enthusiasm, willingness to help, and a good attitude. We do the projects together!
Life here is peaceful, healthy, and surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature. If you’re looking to disconnect from the city and enjoy a simple countryside lifestyle, we would love to welcome you to our home.

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
Life on the finca is relaxed and friendly — we work, cook, and spend time together, so Workawayers quickly become part of our daily routine. The nearby villages, Guateque and Guayatá, have frequent fairs, markets, and local celebrations where you can experience real Colombian culture.
Bogotá is only 2 hours away, so you can easily visit the city on your days off for museums, cafés, and cultural activities.
As a family we enjoy sharing what we know. We can help Workawayers practice and improve their English or Spanish, offer guidance related to physical well-being (like stretching, posture, body awareness, simple yoga, and useful exercises), and share practical knowledge about architecture, small building projects, organization of spaces, and creative design.
We speak English, Spanish, and Hungarian, and we love exchanging languages, ideas, and skills with volunteers. Every person brings something new, and we really enjoy that mutual learning.
We love welcoming people from different cultures and hope to learn about your traditions, daily life, cooking, and language. We are intrested in different ways of working, building, or gardening, simple everyday habits that might inspire us and new ideas for the finca and the glamping project.
We also want our daughter to grow up meeting people from around the world and learning to be open and curious. Every Workawayer brings something unique, and we truly appreciate that cultural exchange.

Unterkunft
Accommodation
Volunteers stay in one of our two container cabins, each with a double bed, private bathroom, and closet, offering a clean and comfortable space to rest.
Next to the containers there is a small cabin-style kitchen, which volunteers can use to cook if they want. The laundry is also done there, right by the containers.
We usually cook three fresh meals a day, and volunteers are welcome to eat with us. We use lots of vegetables, fresh ingredients, and meat from the fincas around us — chicken, beef, pork, fish — plus homemade bread and simple, flavorful dishes. It’s healthy, tasty, and very home-style.
Once a week we go to Guateque (the bigger town) for basic groceries, and to Guayatá for fresh veggies. If you need anything personal, you can come with us and buy it with your own money.
Internet
There is no WiFi on the finca at the moment. We all use mobile internet, which works very well. I even teach 45-minute online English classes using my phone’s hotspot without problems.
The only reliable provider here is Claro. If volunteers want their own mobile data, a full unlimited plan costs about 100,000 COP per month.
It’s a simple, peaceful setup — perfect for people who enjoy nature, quiet, and a family-style environment.

On your days off, you can visit nearby towns like Guateque or Guayatá. Guayatá is quieter and very pleasant, with small cafés and good internet. There are also many trekking routes, waterfalls, a nearby lake, and other charming small towns you can visit — all accessible by local buses.
For longer breaks, you can go to Bogotá. If needed, we can arrange your schedule so you get 3–4 days off in a row, and then make up the hours the following week. There are frequent buses between Guateque and Bogotá. In Bogotá you can meet other volunteers, expats, and locals.
House rules
No parties. You may invite friends to the finca, but always let us know beforehand — no unannounced visitors.
Please keep the container house and the cabin-style kitchen clean and tidy. We’ll provide cleaning supplies, but those areas are your responsibility while living there.
