We run a free vocational training program for Kenyan women. The women live at our facility in Nakuru for one year while learning tailoring and the business skills needed to open their own small business upon graduation. Our students come from very poor rural areas where most girls do not have the opportunity to be educated beyond primary school. We are a small project funded entirely by donations.
Our students also learn English as a second language. With extensive recent droughts, diversifying the economy of the local area is important and one method of doing so is through learning English to help with a trade. English can open up many new opportunities for these women.
We are looking for volunteers to help teach English as a 2nd language, computer skills, bookkeeping and small business management. We also need help with our web page, to keep it up-to-date, and short promotional Youtube production for fundraising presentations. Volunteers with grant writing are especially welcome.
Volunteering in Nakuru would be best suited to someone happy to escape the hustle and bustle of contemporary life. You will join the ladies and staff for Kenyan meals, which are predominantly vegetarian.
We are located just a couple of kilometers from downtown Nakuru, where you will find cappuccino and western-style meals. Next door to the school there is a hotel with great facilities including WiFi, a restaurant, and an espresso bar.
Volunteering here will give you the opportunity to experience the awe-inspiring scenery of East Africa, see safari animals up close in the wild and make a real difference to a local community. The area's stunning landscapes and natural beauty are known around the world, with truly amazing sights such as the Great Rift Valley. Kenya is also home to fascinating and often ancient traditions from the melting pot of so many tribal cultures.
Our project is run on 100% donations only. We receive no government or local support. Therefore we request that visitors contribute $5.00 a day, per visitor toward your upkeep. This small contribution assists us in paying the additional costs of water, cooking fuel and food during your stay.

We have two rooms with a private bathroom set aside for volunteers. You may be asked to share depending on the number of volunteers staying with us. We ask volunteers to contribute $5.00 US per day each. This helps us offset our additional expenses.
We may also request your help in our office with computer/web skills, fundraising or writing grant proposals.
We have a professional sewing teacher who conducts class between 8 and 3 daily. However, if you have sewing skills that would be very helpful to assist the ladies with their practice sessions.
