  Hello, and thank you for visiting our profile.
  We’re Umberto (Italian) and Sally (Irish/English), mother and son.
  We bought our listed, 16th century “Villa Veneta” near Lake Garda twentyfive years ago and we’ve been refurbishing it ever since.
  We’re just about done but we’d still love to have your help completing and maintain this lovely project .
  
  We want to make the grounds of the villa more pollinator friendly while keeping it as low maintenance as possible.
  While we’re in a rural area we’re still well connected, being only five minutes drive from the nearest motorway, with bus and train transport also nearby.
  That said, I strongly recommend you bring a drivers licence to give you the benefit of using our moped (or car) to get down to the lake and beyond in your ample time off.
  
  It’s a pleasant 25 minute, countryside, walk to our closest village, Rivoli Veronese (the same Rivoli where Napolean fought and won a major battle in 1797).
  The village is in a picturesque spot and has a very nice bar, restaurants, chemist, bakery, grocer, post office and atm; it also has a fort, and even a Napolean Museum!
  
  We‘re sunny, positive and flexible, people and we love to attract others with similar traits.
  Communication, initiative, reliability, attention to detail and a practical and energetic ”can do” approach to any jobs to be done are gratefully welcomed.
  
  (A knowledge of carpentry, building, metalwork or gardening and planting would be great as I'm also looking to plant a drought resistant, bee friendly garden 🐝)
  
  Final notes:-
  
  🙏🏼Our place is a smoke free home, and that includes the garden too, so no cigarettes etc on the premises please!
  
  🙏🏼There are two other families who live close by and while they may not be the quietest, I do try NOT to add to their noise. So no loud music please!
  
  We live in northern Italy. That means that in Springtime, and also towards Autumn, the middle of the day can be very warm, but the temperature can drop dramatically in the morning and evening, so please pack appropriate clothes accordingly🙏🏼
  That said, when it begins to heat up properly all you’ll want to wear is a t-shirt, sandals and a pair of shorts ….. and a cozzi e for swimming in the lake!
  
  Gardening can get muddy if it’s rained recently, so please bring suitable boots, (or your least loved pair of trainers) .
  
  You’ll be supplied with towels (and bedding of course)!
  
  You can use the washing machine, and there are washing lines up in the roof where we hang out laundry to dry.

  You can practice your English and Italian. Visit the ancient cities of Verona and Mantova 30 minutes away, or go a bit further for Venezia, Padova, Bologna, Milano …. Firenze or Bolzano!
  You’ll have plenty of free time to explore Lake Garda which is just 15 minutes drive away; its beauty spots, beaches, villages and (depending on the season) also water sports or simply sunbathing.
  Try tandem paragliding on Monte Baldo or go cycling, hiking, canyoning, rock climbing, caving; or trekking - on foot or horseback, in the hills and mountains nearby.

  Arbeit

  We’re in the process of making some adjustments to the villa and grounds and we’re looking for help mainly keeping the house well cleaned and maintained.
  I’ll be around most of the time to guide and support or join in, all depending on the job being done.
  
  You won’t be asked to carry out any “heavy tasks” that I wouldn’t be prepared to do myself 😊
  
  Later in the season we want to establish a herb and vegetable garden and a netted soft fruit area.
  
  We’ll need help with tidying, cleaning and maintenance of the house and grounds. This could include painting a gate or a fence, freshening up outdoor furniture, pruning or dead-heading roses, raking up leaves, changing a light bulb, weeding the gravel, cleaning windows and floors … whatever needs to be done to keep the property beautiful and functioning. as we’re always full of guests with friends and extended family visiting during the Spring and Summer.

  Unterkunft

  We prefer to host couples, or pairs of friends who are happy to share a bedroom! Same sex solo travellers are also welcome if they’re happy to share a bedroom with single beds.
  
  Our home is large and while we’ll all live together as a family, there’s plenty of room for us to get away from each other and be quietly alone in our free time.
  
  You’ll have your own bedroom with two single beds (we’ll zip tie the bed legs together if you’d prefer a “double” bed - just let us know.
  There are two bathrooms almost next door to your bedroom, and these will only be shared if there are other friends or family also staying.
  
  Three meals a day are provided and we’ll often eat together in the evening. We’ll also take meal prep in turns.
  We usually eat Italian food and the evening meal could be a hot or cold dish, depending on the weather. If you want to cook eggs for breakfast or lunch you’re welcome to do so.
  
  You’ll find fruit, crackers or biscuits in the kitchen in case you want to take a snack break between meals.
  
  We’re vegetarian and we try to buy our food locally. .
  We’ll lay the table and clean up the kitchen together before and after meals.
  Occasionally we drink wine or beer at mealtimes.

  There’s a regular but sparse bus service to Verona, with a stop very close by. The bus connects with other bus, and train networks.
  Bicycle and Ebike rental is widely available.
  If you have a driving licence you’re welcome to use the moped; and we can work out together who gets to use the car that day😁
  
  Italian Citizenship:
  I’m very sorry but I won’t be able to help anyone hoping to register as a long term Italian resident in my home with the view to obtaining citizenship.

  We live with two dogs, Our big girl, Maia is a Newfoundland. (She luckily knows she’s a dog). On the other hand, her chum, Benito is an English Bulldog and he’s convinced he’s Human. Both are very enthusiastic about people, gentle, funny, they love attention and may turn into ruffians when they begin to play.
