It was really great to be able to have this experience in the south of Norway. Morten is a really nice host and will make you at ease. He is really thoughtful because as a pianist, he managed to put a piano in one of the house for me and even buy a sustain pedal.

It was nice to have Naim as a WorkAwayer here with me at Hitra. Naim is nice to be with, both to work with and socially. When you have people with different backgrounds, you always learn something new, which I appreciate. Naim also had a concert for us on the piano, nice. Welcome back anytime.
Natalie was with me for almost a month, time just flew by. Natalie is a very handy person who you don't need to tell how to do things. She has a lot of practical background. She is always in a good mood and laughs a lot. Together with Naim, another WorkAwayer, we had some nice weeks together and got to do a lot of things both practical and social.

We spent 2 weeks at Mortens place on Fjellværsøya in december. Its a really beautiful place with a lot of hikes and viewpoints to explore. We borrowed Mortens car and drowe to Frøya and Ulvøya to hike. Morten is a kind and generous host with a funny humor.

Great experience at. John's place on a norwegian island !
The winter is cold, the days are short and the work has to be done, but the joy of working, eating and laughing as a small community marvels everything.
Thank you!

We stayed at John Morten's place for almost 4 weeks. It was our first Workaway and it was such a nice experience for us! We didn't have any experience in painting and John taught us patiently. We had a set schedule everyday: we had to be ready for breakfast at 8:00 and we started work at 8:45. Then we had lunch from 12:00 to 12:45 and we kept

The work was basically painting and some of the last days we did forest cleaning. Sometimes it was hard work but it was what was previously agreed. Due to this, now we can say we are great painters ;)
The accomodation was outstanding. We had our own place with a lot of space and amazing views to the sea. About the food, we had three meals per day. John cooked for us great typical norwegian food (mostly fresh fish from the area) and we cooked some days as well. Fried codfish/polak with sweet onions, potatoes and carrots was soooo good John!! Our stay coincided with the National Day on May 17 and John took us to have cake and coffee to celebrate!
I would really recommend you to go to Hitra so you can get to know this beautiful part of Norway :)Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

It was very nice to have Camil here as a Workawayer. He stayed here for over three months, from early January to mid-April. We got to do lots of different things, from work in the forest to building a new boathouse. Camil is able to work and learns quickly. Welcome back Camil
We spent almost 2 weeks at John's place, it was a short time, but it helped us to get to know a beautiful landscape and a little bit of the traditions of the place. John's house has an incredible view of the Ocean and snow-capped mountains. There we were also able to see the northern lights some nights.
About the meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner

We share our days with other volunteers with whom we spend very nice moments. The days off were on the weekends and John recommended us good places to walk and see. As for the work, we had to deforest and clean the area where John needed it during our entire stay. The work was sometimes intense and monotonous, but were the conditions established. For us it was a great experience and we are grateful to John for giving us the opportunity to get to know his place and that wonderful Island of Hitra.
It was very nice to have Steven her as a workawayer. Hard working! We had good communication and pleasant company. During the three weeks Steven was here, we got a lot done both in the forest and with the construction of a new boathouse. Thanks Steven for a great job and welcome back in June.
This was my 1st workaway and I spent 3 weeks with John and other workawayers.
John is a great host and provides excellent accommodation, provisions and food.
He is very good at providing workawayers with new skills and work experience.
We carried out several building projects together and I carried put some clearance of forestry.

I arrived at the end of January in Fillan. John picked me up at the bus station.
I stayed 3 weeks in Hitra. The place is really beautiful and the landscapes are breathtaking. It is located on a remote Island, quite wild with a lot of salmon farms.
I was with 5 other workaways. We slept in a separate house from John's house (very comfortable !!!
… read more We all have our bedroom with sea view). We shared breakfast, lunch and dinner in John’s House.
About the work, I’ve done forestry. It was a little bit intensive and hard, especially because of the weather but John was very grateful when we finished the work.
I worked about five hours a day, so I had a lot of time to explore the surroundings. The Island is really beautiful with a lot of typical Norwegian houses. There are also two kayaks to explore the sea.
John was really nice and generous with me. He shared a lot of information about Norwegian culture. The last few days he organized a Rib boat cruise to visit a salmon farm. It was amazing, I will never forget that !
In a nutshell, it was a great experience. I recommend it ! Just be careful if you’re going in winter, the work outside can be hard.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Me and Ella stayed with John for three weeks. Johns a good guy who was generous in lots of ways. Stayed in a lovely big house, with open plan living room upstairs, with the other workawayers. He provided breakfast lunch and dinner, breakfast and lunch being largely bread based and dinner being more interesting with fish or a meat of some sort. We

The island and Bay Area where John lives is very pretty, calm sea, mossy rocks and rolling mountains. It’s quite remote so be prepared to spend spare time exploring the outdoors- no shops within walking distance. He’s got sea kayaks which were fantastic to use in the glassy sea, a sauna to enjoy and again lots of land to explore in the area. 5 hour work days 5hours a week- me and Ella and two others were doing fairly intensive forestry for three weeks, hard work and done in sometimes bad weather, we did get an afternoon off one time when it was a snow storm out. John was clearly grateful for the work we’d completed at the end of our stay which was good to see. And at the end of our three weeks he commission a Rib boat cruise and a tour of the local Salmon farm- fantastic day out I’ll not forget. And then went to a brilliant concert in the evening. SO overall- hard work-remote area-basic breakfast and lunch but beautiful surroundings- generous host-amazing home-lots to explore and rewarding experience. Thankyou John and good luck with your projects!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

It was a good experience. We were with several workawayers at the same time (from 4 to 2), what was kind of strange for me.

Of course you have to take into account that - in this period of the year (November)- it is dark when you finish the job, which means no possibility to hike during the working days. But during the work we were outside the whole time, we could enjoy the amazingly changing light, all the colors of the sunset, the 'dance' of the eagles, the variations in the sea,...
What a feeling!
Not to forget : staring at the innumerable stars, being flabbergasted by the northern light, jumping in the sea after sauna, listening to the overwhelming silence, ...
Morten did quite some effort to make it a remarkable experience for all of us : sightseeing the island, exploring traditional norwegian food, julebord, baking cakes, visiting a sheep farm, sharing his future projects,...
I herewith also want to thank the team of the workawayers who made it an experience full of laughter and caring for each other. A special reward to the workawayer who offered a music evening with guitar and songs!

Vom Workawayer (Robin) für Host
I stayed at Morten's place from the end of September to the end of November, so 7 weeks in total, now that seems a long period but it went by faster than any 2 months in my life!
Morten and I were a good team both working outside as also preparing dinner together. The first month was just Morten and me, after that, we were accompanied by Lorena
… read more and later by Benedict and Negi who are all wonderful people, together the work outside and baking inside was even more fun. The work was exclusively outside, working on the boathouse, laying down a road and some small tasks so quite labor-intensive work but this was all well discussed beforehand through a video call.
During my time in snellvika, I was able to learn some Norwegian both through Duolingo and Morten, who also showed me lots of Norwegian culture and gastronomy, even full Christmas dinners and the like. The place is very nice with lots of nature to explore and directly next to the water which you can also explore by a row boat he has. The nature around mainly consists of open, barren places but also quite some places with trees, lakes, rivers... a lot to explore. Apart from the wild nature, there are also quite some farm animals at Morten's place which you will quickly get attached to and who follow you around wherever you go.
The places I stayed at (at first the white cabin and later the red house) are very clean and modern, couldn't be better.
At last, I also want to thank Morten's girlfriend who visited during the weekend and is such a sweet and loving person!

I spent around 3 weeks there participating to the building of a boat house. I had no experience in building and it was a very good way to learn. Morten has a lot of projects and is a harworking person. It was easy to feel involved in the project.
Also, Morten showed us a lot of traditional

There was a very good balance between times with the group and times alone. As the workawayers have their own house it's easy to have a place where you feel at home, and still on the other side having meals together allows a lot of exchanges.
All in all, I'm very grateful for the stay I had in Snellvika and for everything I've learnt there.

John also showed me a high variety of Norwegian food : waffles, moose meat, fish meat…But the most tasty meal was his own honey!! If you come to his place, you will have the possibility to taste a lot of different food.
