I am a secondary school English teacher who has always had a love of horses and so while travelling in Australia (I also love travelling and have travelled from America to India and lots of places in between!) I decided to merge the two upon my return home and open an equine learning centre. I trained as an Equine Assisted learning facilitator in Ireland and proceeded to open the farm.
The Farm is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty between Slemish mountain and the historic coastal village of Glenarm, in County Antrim.
At the farm we offer riding and non-riding programmes. These range from pony lessons to own a pony days to equine assisted learning. We work primarily with children and teens, often those with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Our facilities include a 30 x 40m all-weather outdoor arena, an indoor arena, ample car parking, washrooms and picnic benches amidst 30 acres of idyllic countryside.
We have contracts with social services and the education authority but we are also a registered community interest company and as such we offer free sponsored sessions to disadvantaged youth and families who could not avail of the service otherwise; my passion for helping others and social justice stems from my Christian faith which is really important to me and i hope is reflected in the business.
We aim to provide an innovative yet proven learning experience, facilitated by a certified professional and our equine partners, to accelerate transformational change.
We seek to provide opportunities for participants to connect with our horses and the natural environment and in doing so encourage them to connect with themselves, others and the world they live in.
We strive to equip participants to become confident individuals, reflective learners, effective contributors and responsible citizens.

We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The farm has been owned by my family for over 100 years and you will get to experience a real rural Northern Ireland horse farmstay.
Aside from the cultural benefits, our equine learning centre is unique as we are not solely a riding centre but offer equine assisted learning, so if horses interest you this is an ideal place to see the transforming power of horses.
I also compete show horses to national level, so you will be able to witness the effort and dedication required for that and pick up some skills along the way.
I can offer you a riding lesson a week. You will also have full access to a well stocked library!
We opened a year ago and have done a lot of work to the farm but a lot is still to do.
Ongoing general diy and maintenance work is always needed but specifically we are converting outbuildings into functional spaces and so specialist building help would also be appreciated.
Alongside general horse care like watering, feeding and grooming, help is required in lessons like leading, tacking up and even taking one on one children’s sessions if your skills fit.
If gardening and/or landscaping is your skill, then that is also on the endless and long to do list.
Basically, if your skills are either diy, animal care or outdoor interests then you will fit in well!
We can only accept fluent English speakers due to the nature of our work which involves comminicating directly with children and the public.
At the moment you will live in a newly built countryhouse and have your own dual aspect double bedroom and bathroom.
Living accommodation is shared and means you will find it easy to integrate into the experience while having your own bedroom space for yourself.
However, we are in the process of creating a seperate workaway living space which is away from the house but is on site so when that is completed you will have your own privacy.
