We live on a small farm by a beautiful lake in Slovenia.
Our farm is located near about 15 km from Celje, which is a beautiful small lovingly restored town. It is the cultural center of our region.
Ljubljana is about an hour away by car. Zagreb 1,5 hours. The sea is about 2 hours away. Venice, Vienna and Budapest are 3-3,5 hours away.
the farm is situated on a south slope 300m above the lake. there is a very nice swimming place 10 minutes lautzeit away. Most of the time we are the only ones on this side of the lake except for a few anglers.
We have a small vineyard, two fields, one for vegetables and one for fodder plants and a vegetable garden by the house.
With us lives a dog, two cats, some chickens and four dwarf zebus.
Our buildings are partly in need of renovation and are not luxurious. We strive to renovate the buildings for different uses and to create even more living space.
My name is Jennifer, in Germany where we lived until 2022 I worked in outpatient hospice work. Here in Slovenia I am learning how to work on a farm. I am trying to understand the business side of the farm as well as the principles of permaculture. Learning Slovenian is very difficult for me and it is pitifully slow. I learn how to grow vegetables and the neighbors teach me how to make wine and sausage and I take care of our animals.
But I enjoy every single day in this beautiful environment.
My husband Yo, who is 49 years old, is a passionate mountain biker. He works as a freelancer for the bicycle industry. He has an office on the other side of the lake in a startup incubator, that can also be used if necessary.
We would be very happy to hear from people who would like to ride mountain bikes and build trails! Racing cyclists are also very welcome!
We have five children, they are living in Germany to finish their degrees. They love to spend time in Slovenia.
Since December we have a new person living on the farm. His name is Tim, he came to help us for a few weeks, but we are getting along very well, so he decided to stay or a while. At the moment he is renovating the garage to live there for a while. He loves his two big dogs, he is a dog trainer, so the dog his dogs are very well educated. He loves sports, good food and animals. He is always busy.
Last year we had a lot of problems with storms. We lost all wine and all grains, fruits and vegetables in a severe hailstorm. Luckily we don't live on income from the farm. A week after the hailstorm we were hit by heavy rain with hurricane-like gusts. All of our roofs were damaged, one shed was completely blown over by the wind. Now we have a new roof on our house and we are in the process to make more space for more people.
When we bought the farm, our wish was to create an opportunity for ourselves and other people to find peace, re-center ourselves, become active and have good encounters.
Especially after the damage caused by the storm, we can't do this alone. We hesitated for a long time to invite people to us via social media because we first wanted to arrive ourselves and also wanted to get in touch with the village community. We have very good relationships with our neighbors. The Slovenians are so great! They are very friendly and extremely polite, open-minded, funny, helpful and practical. Everyone here has a lot of skills. People make their own wine, vegetables, meat and sausages, repair their own cars and houses. I have the greatest respect for the people here and would like to invite you to get to know Slovenia with us. The country and its people are definitely worth a trip!
In this small country through the Alps there are several climate zones in a small area, complete with big changes in fauna and flora. If you drive three hills further everything is suddenly different, it's very fascinating!

I hope the visitors benefit from learning by doing together with us, as we did from their stay in this wonderful country. We like to share our experiences about what it's like to put your foot in the air and see how it carries you. (qoute from a poem by Hilde Domin).
We have raised five children and have a lot of experience with facing difficulties and still going on and staying true to ourselves. And I think i rather cook well, both German dishes and Slovenian dishes, I worked in a country inn here and learned a lot there. We had people from different African countries as well as from China as roommates for a long time and I learned from all of these people how to cook dishes from their homeland.

We can actually use support in all areas relating to the farm. This concerns the repair of the buildings; Create new living spaces, looking after the animals and the garden. Contribute ideas for the design of open spaces and buildings, build a summer kitchen and much more. We also want to build more trails for hiking and mountain biking for better access to the woods and pastures on our grounds, so if that is your thing you are happily welcome too.
Depending on what you want to do, what you are good at or would like to learn.

It is a bit of a challenge to learn Slovene... so we would be happy to learn that. But we are happy to learn any other language as well, because learning a new language opens up new worlds of understanding.

  • Unterkunft

    Unterkunft

We currently have two guest rooms and would like to expand into another floor. The rooms are very simple. We have central heating since Autumn. Last year we had no heating and heated with a large tiled stove and a kitchen witch. It was somehow comfortable, but awkward and not always warm enough for everyone. In order to feel comfortable with us, you should have a bit of a sense of adventure. But of course we have hot running water from a boiler in the bathroom. Nobody has to take a cold shower or swim in the lake in winter. From May to October it is also possible to camp. There is a nice spot from which you can see the lake on one side and the mountains on the other.
We would be happy to beautify the rooms with you or provide you with the means to do so.

As already mentioned, everywhere in Slovenia is beautiful, some family members have a great interest in cycling, especially mountain biking. and would love to build trails with you. We have many interesting hiking trails right on our doorstep. Our area is also known for the many thermal springs, there are spas and water parks nearby. The train station is nearby on foot in 30 minutes, or we can drive you, then it's 10 minutes. Train travel is very inexpensive in Slovenia. During the week you can go to Celje for 2.50 euros and to Ljubljana (almost 100 km) for 9.50 euros - that's a fantastic city! A little like Prague, with a castle and a river and bridges, but less like a Euro Disneyland, which means there aren't just tourists there. There are special rates at the weekend, where the trip to Ljubljana only costs 2.5 euros. We sometimes go on trips with you, for example to the Sea or to the Alps. If necessary, it is possible to borrow our car.
