  This is a 9 hectare property now under a covenant with the help of the Trust for Nature. Five years ago, I starting rehabilitating the sheep paddocks for plants and wildlife, primarily birds and especially honey eaters. I now continue work for weed control, ecological thinning and also planting trees and shrubs to attract endangered honey eaters, including the regent honey eater and the swift parrot. I am establishing a 100 tree olive grove and a 400m2 vegetable garden, utilising hugelkultures . There are many cycle paths and off road trails as well as mountains nearby for hiking and cycling. Skiing when it snows! I have an enclosed salt water pool for the hot days.
  
  I am keen to share my skills in habitat development, revegetation, gardening, landscaping, woodworking and mechanics.
  I am a retired doctor in my early seventies and my daughter and three grandchildren often visit, so you would share the bathroom facilities with them when they visit, but otherwise have your own separate facilities.

  I also speak Italian and am keen for Italian visitors who might help develop my language skills.
  I have skills in woodwork, landscaping and restoration of old cars. I can teach you do use a tractor and backhoe including maintenance. I have links with local farmers and organisations. My garden in Castlemaine won awards and was published in books and magazines. I developed skills in domestic gardening which I have now utilised for revegetation and land rehabilitation. I am trying to improve the robustness and resilience of the property , particularly for various endangered flora and fauna.
  I am involved in various environmental and permaculture groups that often have events and teaching sessions.
  I have a long history of hosting international guests during my 30+ years living in Castlemaine and being active with the Castlemaine State Festival. I have also hosted exchange students whilst my own children were at school.

  Arbeit

  Feel free to contact me to discuss any part of the stay, what you want to learn and the work you might want to do. Use a tractor as well as the backhoe, shooting levels for swales and rock lining ponds and swales. Always veggie patch work to do, making compost, spreading mulch, harvesting and eating. There a variety of tasks awaiting action, and I am adaptable to focus on your interests. Recently I built habitat for the Grebes who nest on the dam each year, replacing the previous habitat lost to time and a big storm. Garden construction and planting with practice on both the tractor and the skid steer mower.
  I work with you and go through safety procedures for tools and machinery.

  Unterkunft

  There are two extra rooms in a modern passive solar home. You would participate in the cooking, cleaning etc around the house. All linen and towels provided. You would live pretty much as a family member or friend would.
  
  With generous room in the house and your own bathroom facilities (shared only with other guests), i would hope we could share cooking. Of course I would provide the food including any special dietary requirements. I like to share the cooking and have several Italian dishes I prepare. I would hope we could share things as if friends living together. This area being a food and wine district means there are many opportunities to indulge an interest in food and wine across a broad range of local specialities.

  Lots of local activities with rail trails and MTB trails. Hiking, swimming and the historic town of Beechworth is nearby.
