Vom Host für Workawayer (Haley)
It was a pleasure to have Haley with us, from the beginning she made everything very easy. Not only she was very good with my kids, but also with me and my husband. Haley is very caring and patient, in fact, I don't have words to describe how wonderful she is.
She adapted perfectly to our family, becoming a part of it and spent a lot of time with

I would like to add that she was very reliable and professional and whenever my kids were with her I felt that I was leaving them with a member of my family.

This was my first WorkAway experience, and it was incredible! Eva is the best host mom I could have asked for, and her family is adorable. Eva is trilingual (Spanish, Catalan, English) and even though she says her English needs work, I never had any difficulty communicating with her. She was very accommodating. Carlas, her partner, does not speak
… read more any English, but with my (very minimal) knowledge of Spanish and his facial expressions we were able to communicate just fine. Iker is 9 years old and is very cute and loving. Paula is 1 and takes awhile to warm up, but once she does it's the best feeling in the world to have her come to you. Children are never easy, and it was difficult somewhat with the language barrier. But Eva was always on my side and never asked too much.
Both Eva and Carlas work, Eva as a primary school teacher and Carlas as a general maintenance worker. A typical day during the week (M-F) was pretty busy with dropping off and picking up the kids from school and taking Iker to the pool in the evenings. However, anytime I wanted to visit the city it wasn't a problem, and I would usually leave around 4/5 after collecting Iker from school. The commute to Barcelona city center took about an hour by public transport in either direction.
Every weekend I spent here was different with Eva accommodating every one of my requests. Some of the things we did: went out in the city of Barcelona for drinks with Eva's (super cool and also trilingual) friends, drove to Montserrat (beautiful unique mountains), visited Montjuic castle and Tibidabo, went to Tarragona (a cute village with a beach) for a weekend, went to Carlas's parent's home in Santa Maria another weekend (probably my favorite trip), went to Sitges, and more!
I would not call this a traditional WorkAway experience as I truly became part of the family. I wasn't looking for strict working and non-working hours anyway, so it was perfect for me. I would advise anyone looking to come here to be open to new experiences and truly immerse yourself in the family dynamic.
I was at a very difficult point in my life when I came here, and I am so grateful that I chose this family. Eva even helped me look for work as I'm interested in moving here to teach English. Without even asking she reached out to many of her friends and got me an interview at the coveted American School of Barcelona.
Evening chats with Eva over wine on the terrace was one of the memories I’ll cherish most. She is truly a lovely human being and has had a lot of very cool life experiences. She is incredibly open-minded and we got on quite well. I know I made a friend for life. Although I could only stay one month this time, I will be back soon for sure.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
