I stayed at Inga and Raggi farm in the last 4 months of 2023. I’ve been thinking for some time if it was the case of leaving a review, and eventually I decided to proceed.
First, I am grateful to them.
Grateful because I had dreamed about Iceland since my childhood, and thanks to them I managed to step in the country for the first time in August
… read more 2023 at the age of 35.
Because in the three months there I learned a lot about animals and rhythms of nature in the country.
Because Hvammur was my house from the moment I entered until the moment I left. And because whenever I look at the mountains behind the farm, even from km of distance, I always find them familiar and intimate.
Inga is a very welcoming, generous and warm person, that made all what was possible to make me feel at home. She was cooking for us most of times (leaving us space if we wanted to cook) and I feel priviledged I started experiencing Icelandic food through her wonderful plates.
Raggi is extremely knowledgeable about animals, countryside and food production. An experienced professional that instantly understands the issue and doesn’t matter about working all day for the good of the farm.
Sara, their granddaughter, is a sweet and funny girl that was living with us in those months. She helped me with Icelandic, with cooking (especially cakes!) and she was even sometimes coming to support with cows and sheep.
While I was there I had issues with working time and with communication.
Working time was often exceeding what was shown in the profile. When I started I had no free days and I was working an average of 40 hours per week.
Communication was often unclear or insufficient, both about the working time itself and about the tasks.
It was not language bareer, since they both speak English and I do my best with Icelandic. It was more related to a different concept about training and explaining necessity: many things were considered obvious, as if we workawayers should know, when they actually weren’t.
After some time of adaptation me and the other two workawayers went to talk with them. They listened and they got aware about this.
Raggi og Inga, ég er mjög þakklátur fyrir tímann minn þerna.
Ég mun alltaf muna mánuðina á Hvammur, og ég vona til að drekka kaffi saman og að tala um þá mánuði einn daginn.

It was soooooo nice to spent time (3 weeks) with Inga, Raggi, Sara and the animals! :)
This was our first workaway experience so we were a bit shy in the beginning but after couple of days we immediately started to feel like home...
Working with cows and sheeps was so much fun! Although some days were pretty much the same, we enjoyed every minute
… read more in the cowhouse... time went really fast!! Raggi has so much knowledge about farm, cows, etc... we are glad that we learned so many informations! We learned how much work needs to be done and also that every cow has its own beautiful soul! In short, they are amazing animals... Especially when a cow gave birth, it was an amazing moment!
They also took us to some "Christmas family party" and showed us their traditions... We didn´t understand their langague but somehow we felt really nice, haha :)
You can go for a walks in the neighbourhood or you can take a bus/car to Myvatn.
Inga also took us to Akureyri 3 or 4 times and we could buy anything we wanted. The north of Iceland is just amazing and we recommend to go there!!
A biiiiig thanks to Inga and Raggi! :) Hope to see you soon...Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Our stay at Raggi's and Inga's farm was excellent! They are great, very kind and helpful people. We spent 3 weeks there, helping with cows and making small house works. We had our room in the basement which was very clean and had everything that we needed. It was a pleasure to spend time with you!

I stayed with Inga and Raggi for just about two months. It was my first workaway experience and also my first time working with animals. Raggi has lifelong experience in working with cows and therefore knows so much and is very calm and patient in his teaching. It is always a pleasure to work with someone who knows so much!
He would teach my
… read more anything I was interested in. I took part in cows births, getting sheeps from the mountains and general maintainance in the stables and on the farm. He also has a very dry and warm sense of humor which I really enjoyed.
The photos in the profile do not do the surroundings justice! The farm is placed at the bottom of a beautiful mountain with horses walking around freely. Its just a walk from the ocean too.
The sunsets are beautiful and if you are lucky you might even see the Northern Lights (I saw it twice and it was MAGICAL)
Inga is just the sweetest lady, always cooking good, traditional food with lot of lamb from the farm. She is always telling stories, but sometimes can't finish them because she starts laughing in the middle :D
Raggi's mother, who also stayed with us, became a good friend of mine and would tell me about traditions and we would drive around the area to see more. Inga and Raggi was also nice about taking me to the town of Akureyri if I wanted to go to the shops or cafe or museum.
I really learnt a lot in my stay and felt like I got to know the authentic Icelandic culture and mindset! I hope to visit this place and family again.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

I stayed at Inga and Raggi's place for one month. It was my first workawayer experience and I totally loved it! Inga and Raggi are such a nice and generous couple. Spending time with her playing hide-and-seek, colouring pictures or playing ball was so much fun even though I do not understand what she was talking to me in Icelandic :)
During my stay on the farm I was mostly helping with cleaning the cows' stable - usually a few hours in the morning. I also had an opportunity to feed the calves which were born during my stay there. And for the first time in my life I saw baby lambs being born - it was an amazing experience! Inga also took me a few times to Akureyri so I had the chance to see the town and taste the best ice-cream in the world at Brinja (I can totally recommend it!).
The whole family was so nice to me and I had a really nice time there. Thank you all for one of the best month in my life!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

We stayed for 7 weeks at Raggi´s and Inga´s Farm and it was great! First of all, they are very lovely people and treated us so friendly. Raggi has so much knowledge about the icelandic culture and his humor is amusing. Inga ist such a sweet soul and her cooking is amazing!!! And of course we have to mention Rezko, who explained us everything and
… read more also the conversations we carried on were very interesting. And last but not least his daughter Sara Lillý is soooo cute. Generally the fact that they have us participated in their daily grind gave us the feeling not only to be workers, but also to be more integrated in the family. Our duties were to clean the fjoss, to feed the sheep, to feed the horses in the mountains, to help with the calf- and lambs birthes (great experience!) and to do other things that were about happenend at the moment. And we are very thankful, that Raggi (and INga) showed us the area around northern Iceland (e.g. the NE-Area or the North)! Thank you so much, takk fyrir, for the time, and if we should come to Iceland again we will visit you with our 10 children (as Raggi prophesied) ;). Benedicte and I spent 6 and 8 weeks at Ingas and Raggis farm this summer (2017) and we had a great time. Inga and Raggi are very kind people and very hospitable - we were treated like members of the family. We enjoyed Ingas good food and cakes and we liked talking to Raggi late in the evening about where to go and what to see, Icelandic culture,
… read more cows and horses and many other things. We would also like the thank Rasko for being a great collegue - he was very helpful.
We worked every day with the cows, cleaning the fjoss, giving corn, feeding the calves, letting the cows out - and giving a helping hand where it was needed. We really enjoyed learning about milking cows and getting to know their invididual personalities - that was great fun. We also helped with numerous calf births, which was a new thing to us. In the afternoons and on our weekly day off, we went on trips and hikes - especially we liked the hot tub in Hjalteri. But we also saw a lot of the northern part of Iceland which is really a fantastic place - so beautiful and very different from the landscapes we are used to.
So we can varmly recommend Inga and Raggi as workaway hosts. And we hope that they will visit us in Denmark.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

3 month in Iceland,
I visited Inga and Raggi on their farm from March to May and it was a very interesting time. First of all they were very nice to me and made feel very welcome. Talking to each other was no problem even if me English is not the best so we were talking with hands and feet :-D. The work on the farm was easy to do and we had a lot
… read more of fun this time. The first two month I had to work usually in the morning from 8 to 12 o`clock. My work was to clean the cowshed, give the cows corn and feed the sheep with hay. Every second day we fed the horses in the mountains with hay. Sometimes I helped them in the afternoons too. In may when the spring started the sheep start lambing an the work on the fields began, we had more work to do. So we had more work hours to work but this was no problem because I got enough free time to travel around to see the big waterfalls like Godafoss or Dettifoss. Getting to Akkureyri in the afternoons was no problem too.
In the end I just want to say thankyou for this great time I had in Iceland and the new friends I found :-)Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
