I enjoyed my five weeks with Paul, Spud, Dart, and Jinx -- jobs included walking Spud for ~2 hours a day, regularly cleaning the house (vacuuming, mopping, etc.) as well as some outside jobs like putting manure on bamboo and hose washing batches of white stones for giant decorative plant pots. Paul was very inclusive and we went on some fun sightseeing trips with Spud! He also was very helpful in dropping me off at the bus station when I needed to get into Auckland/gave good advice on things to do and see. I will say there was some slight miscommunication with the expectations as I was communicating with Virginia for mostly housesitting, but Paul was there full-time/hadn't started his job yet. This ended up being fine but would have preferred to know before arriving. Just something to keep in mind to be clear on the expectaions, especially for young solo female travellers with no car, it would have impacted my decision to come stay if I had known.
Overall good experience and I wish you all all the best! Paul spoke very highly of his family and it was fascinating to learn about their travels, moving to Australia and then New zealand. I hope all goes more than well for you and thank you again for the chance to see a new part of the world

Virginia is the most incredible mum, always so kind, smiling and so welcoming to those around her. Honestly she's the best!
Paul is an absolute legend, some might say he is my (adopted) dad. Genuinely caring, great chooser of wine and laughable humour that comes out of nowhere.
Scout - a kind young lady, whose fun to be around, extremely smart, passionate with so many things and clearly a better companion then I to her doggo, Spud. (Miss you Spud <3 )
From ducks that are quackers, to "wanna be, domesticated" chickens and beautiful horses. I feel like I have my own little family in NZ.

… read more stay in a lovely furnished-barn that is separated from the house. The work was not too hard - mostly taking care of the garden and the animals. If you love horses, you will be over the moon there. During the weekend, Paul took us for runs / walks around some beautiful sites. We also had tons of nice chats around a good diner.

Virginia was really friendly and adorable all the time. She was very flexible with the working hours. The chores were mostly weeding and cutting grass. The place is amazing and perfect for relax after the working hours. We spend a really good time in their house!

I have had the most incredible time staying with Virginia, Paul, Scout and all of their crazy animals. I started out initially planning a 10 day stay with them and after only that short time, I was hooked. I ended up returning later in the month to do another 6 weeks of work on the farm. … read more into their home. They made every effort to ensure that I was comfortable (living in my own, very nice little cottage) and included me in all of the family outings/activities. The work was varied; painting, gardening, working with the animals and general assistance around the property. There is no shortage of things to do, so your work time will go by quickly and Virginia is great at providing you with all of the information to get the jobs done. She's also a lot of fun to work alongside of and there were many hours of laughter while we tackled each new project. The animals were one of my favourite parts of the experience; in particular Dan, if you get the chance the meet the old boy consider yourself lucky - he's one special horse! Scout does such a fantastic job introducing you to each and every animal and her passion for these beautiful little creatures is contagious! This write-up doesn't do my experience justice, as this family became MY family and I fell in love with all of them. My heart feels a little broken having just departed from their beautiful farm, but I know that I will see them again!
