I live in my beautiful farmhouse in the countryside near Urbino, in the Marche region of Italy. It is a very peaceful place, surrounded by stunning scenery. The nearest town is Urbino, a beautiful Renaissance city that is home to a university. We are also just 40 minutes from the sea and 40 minutes from the mountains, so you can choose where to go depending on your mood. Many families from different countries live in the area, and we often spend our free time together, sharing dinners and outings, while also helping one another with various tasks whenever needed. It truly is a paradise!
In addition, about once a month, I organize a jazz concert at my home. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy great music and meet even more people from the local community and beyond.
Two dogs live with me. Pedro is a Maremma Sheepdog mixed with a Corsican Shepherd. He is a large dog, but incredibly gentle and sweet. He is very affectionate with everyone. Besides Pedro, there is also Gigia, an elderly female Maremma Sheepdog. She is very fearful of humans and needs time to build trust. Even then, she rarely seeks human company.
In addition to the two dogs, I also have several kittens, who are used to spending time both inside the house and outside in the garden. The dogs are allowed inside the house as well, but no animals have access to the bedrooms.

Living at my home offers the opportunity to experience everyday life in a rural part of Italy that is very different from the country's major tourist destinations.
My home is located in the countryside near Urbino, a UNESCO World Heritage city with a vibrant university community, rich cultural heritage and many events throughout the year. Depending on the season, Workawayers may have the opportunity to visit local festivals, markets, concerts, exhibitions and traditional celebrations in the surrounding villages.
By staying with me, Workawayers can learn about Italian rural life, local food traditions, and the slower rhythm of life in the Marche region. I am happy to share meals, stories and conversations about the area, its history and culture.
My home also has a strong connection to music and the arts. Although I only host occasional cultural events, music is an important part of daily life here and Workawayers are welcome to join whenever activities take place.
Looking after my dogs, cats and home also offers a chance to experience a lifestyle that is closely connected to nature and the changing seasons. Depending on the time of year, Workawayers may learn about gardening, caring for outdoor spaces, heating a traditional country house in winter, and the practical aspects of living in the Italian countryside.
Above all, I hope to offer an authentic experience of daily life in this region, with opportunities to meet local people, discover beautiful landscapes and become part of a small community for a while.

    Arbeit

Since I spend part of the week in Rome for work, I am looking for someone who can live here (they will have their own room) and feed the dogs and cats once a day, preferably in the morning, at a flexible time.
Depending on the season, there may occasionally be a need to water the plants in the garden, although most of the irrigation system is automated.
It is important that, when I am not at home, the common areas and the guest’s room are kept clean and tidy.
The house is heated mainly with a wood-burning stove, although there is also a LPG heating system available if needed. Therefore, during the winter months, the guest will be expected to light the central stove to heat the house. It is a fairly simple task, but not everyone is familiar with it.
Other than that, there are no particular obligations—just enjoy this beautiful corner of Italy and the wonderful people who live here.

When I am at home, I enjoy helping the other person improve their Italian, and I also appreciate the opportunity to practise other languages myself. However, I don't see this as an obligation for either of us. Spontaneity is the most important thing.

  • Unterkunft

    Unterkunft

The Workawayer will have their own private room, as well as bed linen and towels. The bathrooms are shared with me and any other guests staying in the house (most of the time, only with me).
The room will be clean upon arrival, but the Workawayer will be responsible for keeping their room clean during their stay. The common areas will also be clean, and I ask everyone to help keep them tidy and pleasant for all.
When I am away from home, the Workawayer should be independent with regard to meals. When I am at home, we can decide together what works best depending on the situation.
The food in the house is omnivorous, although everyone is of course free to follow their preferred diet.
About once a month, we host a concert or cultural event. On those days, the kitchen is mainly used for preparing food for the event, so access to the kitchen may be limited and will need to be coordinated in advance. Don't worry though — there is always plenty of food for everyone! 😉
One important thing: apart from the bathrooms, the rooms and indoor spaces in the house cannot be locked. Mutual trust and respect are essential for a pleasant shared living experience.

    Was noch ...

The area offers plenty of opportunities for leisure activities, social life in town, and exploring the surrounding region. Unfortunately, the house is not served by public transportation, so having your own vehicle is necessary unless you are an enthusiastic walker or cyclist.
As for the house itself, it is quite large and includes a spacious living room equipped with several musical instruments, including a piano, a drum set, and a guitar. There is also a projector and a large screen for enjoying films and videos.
When I am away, the Workawayer is welcome to use these facilities, provided everything is treated with care and left in the same working condition as it was found. 😉 On the days when I am at home, we can simply agree together on their use.
I love music and often listen to it at home (though not metal!) at a reasonable volume, don't worry and not all the time. I would hope this would not be a problem for the person staying here.
There is no Wi-Fi in the house. I rely on my smartphone connection, which is not always perfect. However, I think this fits quite well with the lifestyle choice of living in a place like this. 😊
