  Beschreibung

  Hi, wer are Anna and Gex. We are a family of three living in Southern Austria, close to the Slovenian Border. I am a Social Worker and my wife is a kindergarden teacher. Next to our job we run a homestead of 2.5 hectars and try to provide some of the food for ourself from it. We have a big fruit orchard, a big veggie garden and chickens. Our little daughter arleady helps with as many tasks as possible.
  
  Our homestead lies in the hilly area called "Sausal" in Southern Styria at the food of the Alps which start about 40km to the west from where we live. You can see the Alps in the distance. Our area is not mountaineous, however occupied with endless steep hills. Also our home is steep, so please bring some physical fitness as you won't find lots of flat spaces on our land.

  We have been volunteering over years ourselves in different parts of the world and have learned a huge amount of our present skills through these experiences. So we exactly know what volunteers require in order to benefit the most of their stay.

  Arbeit

  UPDATE:
  we are not accepting any more volunteers until summer 2026!
  However, for the summer time we are a looking for a dedicated person, willing to work hard physically on various tasks in exchange of learning a lot about selfsustainable lifestyle/homesteading, particularly in growing and preserving your own veggies and fruits. We do look for people who are truly aware about the demands and burdens of such a hard work and despite that have the energy to jump into that experience in order to figure out if it would be something for themself as well. So if you are experienced and tough and you are willing to help a young family in exchange for a big learning experience as well as excellent food, accommodation and hospitality don't hesitate to contact us as soon as possible.
  
  
  We need help with our daily tasks. Taking care of the chickens, the garden and the orchard. There is work all year round. In Winter there is a lot of pruning of trees and bushes, as well as making fire wood and maintenance help. In spring the garden season starts and there is a lot of earth tasks to do as well as producing seedlings. In summer there is a lot of pasture help, cutting the grass and making hay as well as watering the gardens. In autumn there is the big harvest and the immense help of preserving food (making juice, caning, drying,...).
  
  Not necessary but an option if it suits both sides is playing with our daughter. She loves to play all day every day and sometimes tasks on the homestead need to wait because of her needs. So a big help diffenetly is spending some time with our kid. And the return is even more direct than in farming as she will show her appreciation with lots of love!

  Unterkunft

  We offer a private room with a double bed and a desk. A private bathroom and toilet are next to it. There is also a private entry to your part of the house. However, all of it is in the basement, meaning cool in the summer and also well heated in winter. The only downside is that there is not much light coming through the little windows.
  
  Healthy food is a big part of our family life. We do eat mainly a vegeterian diet but also consume meat if it is from our own homestead or our direct neighbour.

  Was noch ...

  Anna is a great musician, she plays multiple instruments and sings. Music is a part of daily life, either when sitting at a bonfire or when singing with our daughter. We would love to share that with volunteers.
