Hi! I'm Zubair, from the land of good food and high humidity, Malaysia :) This project is very close to my heart, as it involves my wife's childhood home in Lenggong. Lenggong is a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site surrounded by forests, caves, rivers, waterfalls and archeological sites; a dream for anyone who loves nature, history, and peaceful countryside living.

We have since moved to Ipoh ever since we got married, but the old house still needs some love and care as there are no more relatives who live there to take care of it. We are looking for Workawayers to help with cleaning, organizing, and light renovation to bring new life into the home. We are both elderly, and it would mean the world to her to see her childhood home restored and vibrant again. You will be staying in a traditional Malay home that has been here for over 80 years!

In exchange, you’ll get to experience the peace of staying in a Malaysian village, enjoy traditional Malaysian food, and explore the natural beauty of Lenggong: from prehistoric sites dating to millions of years before to our serene landscapes, it’s a special place that I would recommend you add to your itinerary, and we would LOVE to share it with you!! :)

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

Staying with us is not just about helping with the house, but also about experiencing the culture and beauty of Lenggong. We’ll share with you the joy of traditional Malaysian home-cooked meals, giving you a real taste of local flavors and a chance to learn how to prepare some dishes yourself. Beyond the home, we’ll help you explore Lenggong’s many treasures. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, filled with history and natural wonders. We can take you to the nearby four caves near Gua Kajang, arrange exciting ATV rides through the village and forest, and bring you to waterfalls where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to pick up some Malay language in daily conversations with us, while we learn more about your culture too.

    Arbeit

We are looking for help with cleaning, painting, and renovating my wife's childhood home in Lenggong. The house is old and needs some love, so tasks may include scrubbing and tidying, giving the walls a fresh coat of paint, and helping with small repairs.

If you have skills in woodwork, that would be amazing; there are wooden doors, windows, and furniture that could use some fixing or restoring. We’d also love help with general gardening, such as clearing weeds, trimming plants, and creating a more welcoming outdoor space. There are also outdoor projects that might involve more building, do let us know if this is something you are interested to do!

We will be working together most of the time, so it will be a hands-on, shared experience, and hopefully we can exchange stories along the way :)

To get here, you can take a bus from Kuala Kangsar, our Bandar Diraja (Royal Town), which is well connected by both trains and bus from elsewhere like Kuala Lumpur or Ipoh, and we can arrange for a pickup from the Lenggong Bus Terminal. If our schedule allows, we may also be able to pick you up directly from Ipoh we stay there now.

Out of the six UNESCO sites in Malaysia, Lenggong Valley is probably Malaysia’s least known UNESCO site! But don't be fooled because it is very impressive as Lenggong is actually one of the earliest locations of human settlement in Southeast Asia. During your free time, there are plenty of things to see and do right here in the village and surrounding area according to your interests:

    Historical activites:
📌 See "Perak Man" at the Archaeology Gallery: from Gua Gunung Runtuh, this skeleton is the most complete human remain ever found in Southeast Asia, dated to over 10,000 years ago!!
📌 Bukit Bunuh, site of the meteorite strike that struck Lenggong about 1.83 million years ago!!
📌 Bukit Jawa, where you can observe remains of ash from the prehistoric Toba eruption 74,000 years ago!
📌 See the caves in our village: Gua Kajang, Gua Asar, and Gua Puteri, with Paleolithic and Neolithic remains. There's also Gua Gunung Runtuh, was where Perak Man was discovered and Gua Teluk Kelawar where recently a female skeleton was found (aptly named "Perak Woman").
📌 A visit to the Geopark Gallery to learn about the geological timeline of the world
📌 Kota Tampan, where a stone tool workshop was discovered

    Nature and cultural activities:
📌 Go relax at the many waterfalls and rivers in the valley like Lata Kekabu or Lata Puteh, or go camping in Sumpitan
📌 ATV rides through the lush forest
📌 Boat tour at Chenderoh Lake, where you can see lotus fields
📌 Blue hole in Chepor (Telaga Biru)
📌 Lenggong town where you can find local crafts and products such as "bedak sejuk" and explore Pattani culture
📌 Local food, traditional Malay dishes
📌 Visit Kuala Kangsar, the royal capital of Perak, with lots of royal landmarks and home to Malaysia's first train station
📌 Continue your journey further north to Royal Belum State Park!

There's no public transport here, so if you are interested in any activities, please let us know and we can help bring you there/arrange for a tour so you can enjoy your time here :D
