In the middle of the spectacular jungle of northern Colombia we are building the worlds coolest and most sustainable off-grid hostel, our Neverland for grownups.
We are a Dutch couple who moved to Colombia to try and live our life in a way that aligns with our ideals of sustainability and adventure. We have bought a spectacular jungle plot along the stunning Buritaca river, where we will be using mostly local materials and eco-friendly techniques to build a unique travel experience. We want to show our guests that eco-tourism and sustainability are more than empty labels or marketing ploys to lure in guests.
Our hostel will be one of a kind, with a strong focus on the adventurous experience. Think treehouses along a jungle river, suspension bridges to cross over rivers and between trees, showering between gorgeous jungle ferns and picking your own fruit snacks from our tropical garden.
We have a thousand and one ideas to make this place fantastic, but we're convinced that there are more great ideas out there. So if you are creative, have weird/silly/crazy ideas or are still an adventurous kid at heart, we love to hear your input!

What we offer is a once in a lifetime experience: on an incredible location you can hone your skills or leave your artistic footprint behind and be part of building something unique.
You are in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, our neighbors are Kogi indians and farmers, so you'll experience the true Colombia while staying with us. We can teach you about sustainibility and eco-friendly construction methods, and you'll be able to learn how to work with powertool if this is new to you(of course under close supervision).
We are looking for people who have skills and experience in woodworking, (eco)construction, sustainability or engineering, or people who are eager to expand their skills in this area.
The first tasks will be clearing paths and gathering materials from the area to start some first small scale construction.
We will make bricks out of soil with our brickpress, cut down one or two trees to use for construction material and start the preparations for laying a pipe from our neighbors property to ours so we can get a nice supply of water to our building site. We will also do some experimenting with soil and clay samples from the area to test them for suitability to make roofing tiles etc. This will most likely also include building an earthen oven to make clay fired bricks and tiles.
We will also ask you to help out with the daily chores such as cooking and doing the dishes, since we will all need to contribute to keep our camp nice and livable.

As we will begin building from scratch this january, our accomodations will be very limited. So if you decide to help us during these first months , you will definitely need to bring an adventurous spirit! Think camping in hammocks and tents, bathing in the river and spending the evenings around a campfire. As we start building the accomodations for our volunteers are the first items on our list, so expect things to improve quickly (and you can greatly influence them yourself of course).
Since we're a good bit away from the nearest village with restaurant options we will be providing all volunteers with 3 meals a day. In line with our principles of building a sustainable business these will be completely vegan, and sourced from local products as much as possible. We of course welcome any volunteers with an affinity for food and cooking to contribute where they want!
We will be working during the weekdays, and return to civilization(Guachaca) for the weekends. Unfortunately our house doesn't have any guestrooms, otherwise we would be offering those!
So this means you need to find some accomodation for the weekends, luckily there are plenty of nice, beautiful and cheap options nearby(beds starting at 20k cop a night). We can always give tips or help arrange something of course.
Due to our remote location we can unfortunately only accept new volunteers on mondays, this way we can all travel to the land together and this helps us making planning a lot easier. A mototaxi from the main road(Troncal del caribe) or our house in Guachaca costs 35k pesos. On some days we will have things brought up with a pickup, but since this can't get all the way to our land the last bit must be walked. It is a fantastic walk, with amazing views and paths leading through gorgeous jungle and past an indigenous settlement. If you want to ride in the car and walk the last part (1 1/2 hour) this costs 20k pesos. The hike is partly the same route as the lost city trek, and we also have some indigenous artefacts at the end of it :-)
-Dogs welcome! (we have two ourselves)
-Camping style accomodation (we have a spare tent with a sleeping mat, and several comfy hammocks to sleep in for volunteers without camping gear),
-guaranteed adventurous experience
-We have a water filter to provide us with plenty of drinking water
-Plenty of time and opportunity to enjoy nature, relax and swim!
-Remote! Nearest village is 25 minute motor ride or 1 1/2 hour hike away
-We both have a first aid diploma and a well stocked firstaid kit, but will aim for the highest possible safety when working.
-can be combined with lost city trek, since we are already partly on the way there.
In between the construction work there will be time for plenty of exploring the area, finding hidden waterfalls in the jungle, jumping off cliffs into the refreshing river and climbing the huge jungle trees (we have plenty of climbing experience and all the safety equipment you'd need to climb the tallest trees you can find).
There are hikes to make to our neigbors cacao farm, or our other neigbors hidden jungle river(magical pictures guaranteed)
Since it takes some time to get new people up and running and we are pretty far away from civilisation to spend much time coordinating volunteers we are asking for a minimum commitment of 2 weeks.
