… read more spend a few hours every weekday evening and on the weekend teaching the children English and playing with them in exchange for food and accommodation and Spanish language practice. Teaching and playing with the children was pure delight! They are intelligent, cheeky, funny and kind kids- constantly putting a smile on my face and we went on many excellent adventures together. Maite and Miguel are fantastic hosts, super kind and attentive. They are also deeply interesting people- I had many fascinating conversations and learned much wisdom from them both. I already had an intermediate level of Spanish before arriving but much practice with Maite and Miguel has enabled my language to improve by miles. I was made to feel a real member of their family and have treasured memories of fun trips to local cities and sights. Hervás is in a beautiful part of the country and it’s a really welcoming community. While there I had the opportunity to volunteer at the primary and secondary schools with assisting teaching English- a really wonderful experience for me which allowed me to meet many more members of the community. Maite and Miguel also introduced me to some of their other friends and this proved to be very fruitful!I am eternally grateful to everyone who made my experience in Hervás a dream come true. … read more improved their English a lot. She spent a lot of time with them and mainly played with them, watched some movies in English or baked some very nice sweet pastry/ cakes. Alana was always ready to help and we can highly recommend her. Her family came to Hervas to spend a couple of days with her and we had a great opportunity to meet her great family (Alana's parents were wonderful and her brother was very cool, our kids loved playing with him too). Alana has a very good knowledge of Spanish and she is fluent. She definitely improved a lot of her Spanish while living with us.

Most days we would sit down and have English lessons, but the rest of the time we were doing crafts, reading, playing games, or running around outside. Daniel and Lucia are both very energetic and just a joy to be around, and it's really cool being able to hear their English improving! Spending time with them was always my favorite part of the day, they're very loving and really amazing kids. Miguel and Maite are some of the kindest people I've ever met, and during the time I spent with them they became not only my family away from home, but my dear friends. They were very eager to help out with my Spanish, share cool stories, teach me about Spanish history or about the area they live in (they're both incredibly knowledgeable!), and just in general really make me feel at home. During weekends we would occasionally go on small trips all together to surrounding towns or natural landmarks, or do an activity with the whole family. The entire time I was there I felt as if I was not only a part of the family, but a part of the community as well. I had the privilege of participating in a few of the events happening in Hervas as well as meet a lot of the incredibly friendly people living there, which was one of the most unexpected and coolest parts for me! Miguel, Maite, Daniel, and Lucia, I miss you guys so much. Thank you for this unforgettable experience, and thank you for always being there for me :) You will always have a place to stay in Colorado, and I hope I get to see you all again soon!!

… read more immediately fit into our family pretty well. Our kids loved playing with her and we could see that they have been progressing a lot with their English thanks to her patience and hard work.
We had very interesting conversations with Jenna and enjoyed a glass of wine from time to time. We had the opportunity to watch a lot of movies together and we enjoyed showing her around in our area.
It was very cool to taste some of Jenna's recipes too as she is also a good cook. We cannot say thanks enough to the beautiful time we spent together. We are missing you and love you a lot.

This was my first time traveling abroad and staying with a host family and I could not have asked for a better experience. I spent a total of two months with Miguel, Maite and the kids and had such a wonderful time with them. From the very first day they made me feel so welcomed and comfortable in their home and made sure I felt like a part of the
… read more family. I was included in all family activities, including outings to visit nearby towns on the weekends. We enjoyed meal times together and had lots of interesting conversations. I especially loved learning all about Spanish culture and history from Miguel and Maite. They gave me many opportunities to improve my Spanish with them as well. They are very kind and understanding people and there was great communication between everyone.
Daniel and Lucia are very sweet, kind and smart kids. The work with them includes playing and spending time together in the afternoons. We had lots of fun playing their favorite games, they love being creative and especially enjoy arts and crafts. They are both good learners and I could see their English improving. I always had plenty of free time for myself. I enjoyed lots of walks into town which takes about 20 minutes through a quiet path in nature past lots of cows and views of the mountains on your way. The town of Hervás is small but beautiful and I always found plenty to see including a historical old town to explore and lots of small cafes to visit. Miguel and Maite are also growing a beautiful garden full of flowers and olive trees which was fun to help with.
I have made so many wonderful memories with this family to look back on and I am so grateful to have shared this time with them. I am sure anyone who stays with this family will find a home here. I am missing them all so much since saying goodbye and I hope to be visiting them again soon. Take care all! Miguel and Maite were also extremely helpful with my Spanish – and very patient, helping with my Spanish homework and answering any questions I had. Gracias Traductor Miguel! The work involves playing and working with the kids in English in the afternoons, there is plenty of time by yourself as well to go for long works or explore the beautiful old town. Hervas is absolutely stunning surrounded by mountains and an excellent walking path, if you love peaceful natural scenery (and lots of very sweet cows) this is the place for you! There was always a great level of communications and if I had any questions or queries I felt extremely comfortable asking about anything. There was lots of mutual respect and balance which I think contributed to such a great experience on both ends, and also lots of fun and laughter – sharing stories, cooking lunch and dinner and being a part of the family, I was always included without hesitation in all family activities and made to feel so so welcome and loved. All of you now have family and a place to come stay me in Aus too! Phoebe settled into our family very well from the very first minute she came home. She always had a smile on her face and was always very easy-going and willing to help us, not only with our kids but also at home and in the garden.
She did an amazing job with our kids as they really improved their English a lot. Actually we can see great teaching skills. She is highly talented to work with kids and has a lot of patience too.
Her Spanish has improved a lot too. She worked very hard on it and she can now hold conversations in Spanish as well as understand quite a lot. We have no doubt that she will become very fluent in Spanish in a very short while.
The only negative thing we can tell about Phoebe is seeing her leave!!!! But she knows she has a home and her Spanish family in Hervas.
