You will practice and improve your conversational Spanish while enjoying hot coffee with señor Hector and señora Blanca, caretaker, who visit the house regularly. The residential area in Atami is great for walking and jogging.
During your free time you can learn how to surf in Palmarcito beach and/or you can practice more advance surfing at El Sunzal, El Zonte, Punta Roca, etc. You can also explore El Tunco, Tamanique town/cascades, La Libertad city, Santa Tecla and San Salvador, all accessible by public or private transportation.
Other points of interest include Tazumal, Suchitoto, Joyas de Ceren (the Pompeii of America), Santa Ana Volcanoe, Voqueron National Park, Apaneca labyrinth (the largest in Central America) etc. As well, from El Tunco, you can take a shuttle directly to Antigua (Guatemala), Utila (Honduras) and/or Leon (Nicaragua).
Cultural events in El Salvador have been suspended due to COVID. However, they included:
Semana Santa from late March through Easter Sunday;
Fiestas Julias in the city of Santa Ana through the month of July;
Fiestas agostinas in early August (it is a national holiday);
"Bolas de fuego" celebrations in late August in Nejapa;
Fiestas de Independencia on September 15;
Carnival de San Miguel in November (Source: iExplore).

I need help with painting walls and handrails, and varnishing doors and tables. If you have background in landscaping, construction, or house repairs/renovations (concrete houses) would be great!

Unterkunft
the small casa includes 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a small kitchen, dining space, terrace and split yard, and a small pool. The welcoming property has plenty of space for walking, kicking back and relaxing!
Picture yourself gently swinging back and forth on a hammock while enjoying the cool ocean breeze. You definitely will feel more on holidays than at work!

Purified drinking water (agua crystal) will be provided; please do not drink water from the tap. There are restaurants and grocery stores in the city of La Libertad to buy food or groceries.
At the house, you will have access to the small and large refrigerators, gas stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, electric and clay toasters (for corn tortillas) and shelf to keep your groceries.
There is Internet and WIFI at the casa; you can also find WIFI at the Atami Escape Resort, Pelicanos Restaurant, and most probably in el Tunco. The city of La Libertad has a few internet cafes and they are not expensive. As well
Very important: For safety and security reasons local visitors and overnight guests are not permitted at the casa. I also require a Skype or phone interview to review expectations for volunteer and host.
I am a mature guy who enjoys cooking, walking, gardening, and meeting new people. I am easy going, relaxed and open minded to all cultures, religions, etc. I love the arts (Music, Painting, Architecture, etc), nature and a simple way of life. I speak Spanish so feel free to practice your Spanish with me!
