  My partner Tom and I (Tassa) live on 20 beautiful acres of Sub tropical and wet Sclerophyll forest in the stunning Fridays Creek in the Upper Orara Valley of Coffs Harbour Hinterland with our Miniature Schnauzer Mervyn. We are approx 25 minutes from Coffs Harbour beaches and waterways with great surfing, snorkelling, swimming etc and we are close to pristine swimming holes, waterfalls and Bindarri National Park. Our property is mainly bush with some running water and a small cleared area high on the side of a hill with a view for our house site and some space for a large vegetable garden and orchard out the back. There are lots of great walks to do around the property and close by exploring and we’d love to show you around.
  
  The previous owners started a big bush regeneration project and we have a young well established sub tropical rainforest that we are tending to and wish to continue to maintain and add to, hopefully with your help! Living on land there is always lots of weeding, mowing, gardening and maintenance jobs to be done. We have been renovating our shed into a sewing studio/semi-self contained guest area/laundry and have been building an undercover outdoor kitchen/BBQ area so some of the property maintenance has fallen to the wayside whilst we’ve been doing this and we need a bit of hand to get the property in good shape again.
  
  We are both relaxed and easy going people with a love of travel ourselves and we love to meet new people and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in our home for guests. We’d love to hear some of your stories and share some of our own, perhaps over a cold beer or a glass of wine in front of an outdoor fire in the evenings.

  You will learn about the local natural environment, identifying native plants and weeds and local birds and animals.
  You will learn about bush regeneration and weed eradication and how to maintain a bush property.

  Arbeit

  We work from Tuesday through to Thursday so you will need to be able to commit to work between Friday and Monday when we are at home with the occasional unsupervised day outside of these days if necessary. You may be doing some jobs unsupervised so you need to be happy to do this and show some initiative if necessary. We will expect that you do 20-25 hours of work per week and you are free to make up those hours how you would prefer; for example you could work 3x 8 hour days excluding breaks, or 4 x 6.5 hour days, or 5x 5 hour days as long as it is between Friday to Monday.
  
  Horticulture, gardening, landscaping, and building skills are very valued although if you have a good work ethic, don’t mind a bit of hard work and are happy to give things a go then we can show you pretty everything you’ll need to know.
  
  Good protective work clothes and boots are a must and it’s important to be aware that you are in the bush and that means all of the creatures that come with that, such as snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies. Don’t worry though we have never been bitten and never intend on being bitten but it is important that you are aware and take the necessary precautions, we can you show you how to be careful and will provide you with gloves and other personal protective gear as required.
  
  We work hard and although we expect the same we do try and make it fun and like listening to music on our outdoor sound system and have a laugh whilst we’re doing it.

  Unterkunft

  You will be staying in our newly renovated semi self-contained studio with a beautiful view over the valley, queen sized bed, toilet and outside hot shower with private access. The studio does contain our laundry and my sewing equipment but we will attempt to only use the laundry during the day so that you will have your privacy during the evenings. The studio has electricity and internet access.
  
  We eat mainly organic vegetarian / vegan food but Tom does eat meat on the odd occasion and is known for throwing a mean outdoor BBQ/cook up together. We are both foodies and love sharing cooking ideas and recipes and connecting over food so teach us what your mumma makes :-) One of our goals is to get the large overgrown Vegetable garden weeded and flourishing again so we can eat all of our own vegetables, so if you have any gardening skills they would be much appreciated. Although cooking experience is not necessary it will be appreciated and we will expect some help with food prep, dishes and clean up. We will make large meals (mainly vegetarian/vegan) for dinner with left overs for lunch the following day and will provide you with breakfast goods and snacks. We do expect help with clean up after dinner and for you to look after food for yourself during the day (we will provide the food) and to clean up after yourself.

  As we work during the week from Tuesday to Thursday you will have lots of time to occupy yourself. We can drop you in town when we go to work to enjoy the beaches and explore the local area (there are local bus services between towns and around Coffs Harbour) and pick you up in the afternoons on our way home, or you are welcome to make yourself at home and enjoy the serenity of our bush property and take yourself on bush walks, hang out with our exceptionally cute little dog or even just read a book in the sunshine, whatever takes you fancy.
  
  We work mid week from Tuesday through to Friday with early starts, so from Monday through to Thursday we like to have early dinners and early quiet nights and so we ask during this time that you respect that by keeping noise to a minimum after dinner on these days. In saying that you do have your own private self contained space so you’re able watch something or listen to music in your own space as long as it is at a reasonably low volume.
  
  We expect our guests to be clean and tidy and respect our property and clean up after themselves.
  
  We live 25 minutes out of town so it would be ideal if you had your own transport but we both have cars and on our days off if we are not working we’ll be happy to take you around, drop you off at the beach, markets, waterfalls and secret little spots etc … or take you on some local adventures.
  
  Tom is a surfer and if you are a competent surfer too and the surf is on then he would love to take you surfing with him, we both also snorkel and we have extra surfboards and snorkelling gear that you can borrow.
  
  We don’t mind if you like to have a quiet drink in the evenings and smoking is permitted outside.
