  I welcome independent, self-reliant travelers to my suburban Rotorua base. On offer is a warm, comfortable, fully self-contained bedsit / sleepout / garden house in exchange for focused, targeted assistance to help me maintain the property and organize and cull my possessions as I prepare to downsize and relocate.

  Rotorua is a world-renowned tourist mecca famous for Māori cultural experiences, geothermal attractions, and outdoor adventures.
  
  My past career with the NZ foreign service allowed me to travel extensively worldwide. Today my lifestyle is NZ-based. I enjoy sharing my home with overseas guests and enjoy experiencing a diversity of minds and perspectives.
  
  I do value privacy and independence. This exchange is best suited to autonomous travelers. For me, an authentic cultural exchange is an intellectual and human exchange, not an entertainment or recreational activity. I measure the value of exchanges by the extent to which there is mutual trust, shared, aligned, respected, or compatible perspectives, and most importantly a mutual appreciation for broadening cultural horizons. While I maintain a highly focused schedule, I am always happy to share local knowledge to help guests make the most of their stay in Rotorua and for travelling throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

  Arbeit

  This self-contained accommodation is available in exchange for 2 hours of focused daily assistance per person (14 hours p/w). Helpers buy and prepare their own food.
  
  Start and finish times are entirely flexible to ensure you have full days free to explore. I like to be organized and can usually (but not always) provide a to-do list—including routine housekeeping and property maintenance, as well as 1-off projects. You have freedom to select tasks that perfectly match the weather, your interests, and the most important part! your abilities :)

  Unterkunft

  Self-contained sleepout - small basic kitchenette, king size bed, private toilet and shower. Access to the main house for laundry and to the kitchen if cooking aromatic foods is available by prior arrangement.

  Please note that I am highly introverted and frequently immersed in work for my clients. If it is essential for you to spend your time being actively entertained by a chatty host family in an upscale social environment, this is NOT the correct fit for your journey. My home is ideal for independent, autonomous travelers who value privacy, respect quiet professional spaces, and appreciate a comfortable night's sleep.
  
  There is a major supermarket, local takeaway outlets, and bus stops on Fairy Springs Road (SH5) just a few minutes' walk from the driveway. The Skyline Luge Gondola is clearly visible from the property.

  There is a 240V mains hook-up outlet on the exterior of your accommodation for vehicles with an NZ Electrical Standards compliant power cable. I now use Wireless Nation for mobile internet data in both my own motorhome when on the road and at the house when staying there, so sorry, there is now no unlimited fibre wifi to share with guests - BYO data.
