We are a couple living on a small island in Vesteraalen in Nothern Norway. In winter we see northern lights (aurora borealis) and in summer the midnight sun.
We live on a small farm with 30 sheep and their lambs. Old Norwegian type of North Atlantic short tail sheep (gammelnorsk sau or Villsau). They are pretty tough, staying outdoor all year, eating heather, the bark of trees and seaweed. When there is too much snow in winter we need to give them some hay, which we need to harvest and dry during summer.
We are almost done converting our barn to house tourists, and will start to rent out from the beginning of July.

This year we prefer workawayers already staying in Norway or Denmark because of travel restictions due to COVID19.

We are converting a barn and are almost done with that, just now we need to make the place ready to accomodate tourists. We need to clean and tidy up both inside and outside the barn. We are also building a boat house amongst others. The tasks will be varying like construction work in-and outdoor, painting, in- and outdoor but also restoring furniture and some fencing. Landscaping like repairing dirt roads, drain the soil and collect stones or help us make a stone garden.
During summer, mid July to beginning og August, we need help with hay making the old fashioned way, which means the hay is sorted for poisounous weeds and then hung on racks to dry. In between we need help to look after our sheep for a couple of days.
Carpentry skills or other craft skills like bricklaying, landscaping or experience with animals and farm work are desireable but not necessary. You should plan to stay at least for a month or more, for hay making two to three weeks are enough.
Some of the outdoor help is only possible to be done between may and october.

We have a twin bedroom for couples or two seperate bedrooms for individual workawayers, dirung hay making in July two individually travelling workawayers may have to share a room, but we will tell you ahead. We will have most meals together and expect you to give us a hand with the daily house work, like sometimes preparing a meal and help clearing the table, tidying after meals and cleaning the common areas in the house in addition to keeping your own room clean.
Absolutely no smoking in and around the house.

This is a small island with only seven houses, people living permanently in two of them. Nearest shop is a boat trip and some 25 km away.
You can go for walks on the island and make trips to islands nearby. Explore coastal history, hike in mountains, go fishing when weather conditions allow, if you are lucky you might get to see whales.
In clear weather we often see the nothern light "aurora borealis" in the evening during the dark time of the year (september to march). May to August we have the bright nights when the sun never seems to set. Midnight-sun from 23rd of May to 23rd of July. Make sure to bring a camera with you and have plenty of space on your memorycard.
The Lofoten islands are a couple of hours (by bus) away and are worth seeing all year round.
Public transport: boat to and from the Island five days a week (7 days a week from June 20 to August 15), connects three days a week with a bus to the nearest town with shops etc. The public boat also stops at several neighbouring islands which enables daytrips.
