  Welcome to our world. We are a retired couple and enjoy travel. Being on the border of Slovenia, Hungary and Italy as well as Austria we want to see as much as we can of Croatia and the rest of Europe.
  
  We also recognise that we need help around the property and house. We have 4 dogs of various breeds and sizes and 4 cats. Our property is about an acre in size and full of fruit trees. We also have a swimming pool and plenty of open space. The animals are all very important to us: we would never think of putting them in a kennel.
  
  We are looking for individuals or a couple/family that are animal friendly but also enjoy country life and all that entails. This area of northern Croatia is stunning. There will be times when the workaway requirements are minimal and are dog and cat and house sitting with light labour while we travel and other times when we are here when help around the house and garden/orchard is needed.
  
  We are easy going and flexible. We are happy to have families, single people or couples. Because of the size of the animals couples with very small children would not be advisable. We prefer non-smokers.

  Croatia is a wonderful country. The area in which we live is vibrant with culture and historical significance. It’s wine country and we have some great vintners in the area. Čakovec is our closest large town and the shopping there superb. Lovely cafes, and restaurants and everything reasonably priced.
  
  There is plenty to do, places to go and much to assimilate. Once we have agreed and committed we will do all we can to ensure you have a wonderful and enriching experience. Oh and lots of cuddles from the floofs and plenty of attention.

  Arbeit

  The main requirement for us is animal care, house and grounds maintenance. The requirements of the workaway stay will depend on wether we are travelling. If we are travelling once you have fed the dogs and cats in the morning your daily schedule is yours to decide. We are not expecting you to clock in and clock out. There will be agreed tasks to accomplish but you can decide when you do those. The only main non negotiable is that you must sleep at the house every night while we are away. The dogs must be brought in. So day trips with overnight stays would not work for us.
  
  We have eight super friendly animals. All are well socialised dogs and cats. They all of get a lot of TLC. They are very special to us and we would want committed, pet friendly people. Again all rescues, all with great and different personalities. All eat and sleep well. They are all sterilised, microchipped and fully vaccinated. For our own convenience we have created a fenced area for the dogs. This means they have plenty of room to play and we get to have a bit of our own space and some flowers. However, we try and keep them all with us as much as possible.
  
  We have about an acre of land much of which is an orchard and as mentioned fully fenced. The grounds need constant maintenance and there are always projects in the house. When we are in residence we will draw up a daily work plan and fully explain everything that is needed. There are about 20 trees of different varieties, fig, cherry, apple, pear and peach and chestnut and walnut trees too. Depending on the time of year you could be doing grounds landscaping, gardening or fruit picking and prepping for the winter. We also need help in the house with cleaning, painting, freshening up etc.
  
  
  We prefer to get to know our workaways with a series of Google Meet/FB Messenger or Zoom calls.

  Unterkunft

  Your accommodation is a private very large studio apartment on the ground floor of the house. There is a king bed (that can be converted to 2 singles) and also a futon (¾ size bed). We also have 2 bed height very comfortable inflatable mattresses if needed. The room is large enough to create separate spaces if required. You have your own toaster oven combo stove, refrigerator and freezer to make your own meals.
  
  We will take you shopping so you can stock up.There will be items already in the apartment for your use, we always ask our workdays to supply a grocery list before you arrive. We do not supply alcoholic beverages. There is a TV to access Netflix, UTube etc. We have found that most people prefer to use their own devices to access news etc from wherever they are from. The internet connect is excellent.
  
  If we are travelling we will make provision for you, contact numbers in case of emergency etc. Most of our travelling will be in Europe so in case of real need we can come home easily. Should you feel a car would be useful we would encourage this. However, we will also make provision for someone we know to pick you up and take you shopping on a regular basis while we are away.
  
  There are three local restaurants two that deliver pizza and the best calamari if you want to treat yourselves. Two offer entertainment from time to time.
  
  The property is fully fenced so the dogs and cats basically have free rein. The dogs stay in the back of the property. Daily walks are not necessary as they get plenty of exercise running around. Under supervision they will be allowed to use the pool as it is dog friendly. The pool is open from Mid May until the end of September and then fully winterised. Under no circumstances can the dogs leave the property.
  
  There is a convenience store coffee bar and restaurant about a 15min. walk from the house. A regular bus service to Cakovec the largest town. The village of Pleskovec has the basics, a good restaurant, a gym _and a lovely church. Plenty of walking and hiking and enjoying the countryside.

  There is good bus service from Zagreb to Varazdin or Cakovec the two largest cities north east of Zagreb. Zagreb airport is the closest. There is also a train to the area, but it takes forever.

  Scruffy (1 Jahr)

  Our youngest and cheekiest cat. He was found in a barn at 8/10 days abandoned by his mother and we hand reared him. He is spoiled but has a personality that is winning. He loves the dogs, the other cats he tolerates and they him. He and Snowey regularly play fight. He has a rumble that is ever audible. Don't leave a plate of food or anything to defrost on a counter - he eats everything! Loves dog food as well.

  

  Snowey (4 Jahren)

  He and Mickey share a birthday but that's because we guessed. He rocked up on the property one day making himself known. A little scruff covered in fleas and muck and never left. He was no more than 4 weeks old, if that. He is super affectionate, gentle to a fault and not a mean bone in his lovely white body.

  

  Mickey (4 Jahren)

  If there is a basket or a bag and he thinks he can fit Mickey will squeeze himself in. He is our largest cat. He has a purr that you can hear before you see him. He loves to snuggle when he knows you.

  

  Jasper (6 Jahren)

  Jasper is our eldest cat and a really lovely boy. He will snuggle on his own terms. All our cats use the outside to go to the bathroom and the window in the dining room is always ajar so they come and go as they please. They roam the property at will and in the summer enjoy the freedom of being outside. Jasper will watch you in the pool but obviously has no interested in swimming. None of the cats do. He can be quite vocal when he wants something.

  

  Blu (2 Jahren)

  Our only pedigree. He has one blu eye and one brown eye, hence the name. He is enthusiastic about life and can be a bit boisterous. But he loves to snuggle and is super affectionate once he gets to know you. He will swim in the pool with a little encouragement and quite enjoys it. He loves to lie in the sun so we watch him closely so he does not get sunburned. He adores the cats. Besties with Lucy and Bonnie and Scruffy.

  

  Lucy (6 Jahren)

  A loveable, full of personality girl. She will back chat you and is a superb watch dog. We have had her from a very young age and she is very attuned to all things. We tend to keep her with us a lot, even in the summer. She plays with the cats and loves to have a soak in the pool when she feels like it.

  

  Bonnie (6 Jahren)

  Bonnie is the gentlest of dogs, she asks for nothing. She was adopted from a local farm. She is a Tornak (Croatian breed)/lab cross. She is affectionate but can be a little stand offish until she gets to know you. Besties with Marley, they are always together but also besotted with Blu. She and Lucy keep their distance. Both girls so not surprising.

  

  Marley (8 Jahren)

  True to his breed and a really goofball. Marley is pure love and affection. Just do not mess with his food. Put it down and let him finish, it does not take long. He hates the water, so pool swimming for him is out. He loves to rest his head on any table, chair or your leg. A happy go lucky boy.
