Thank you so so much Deirdra, Kenny and 4 lovely children! I stayed here from end of October 2024 to middle of February 2025 ( During Christmas, I was in Germany) and it was such an amazing experiences!! Before coming to this house, I was in Galway so we could meet by face to face. They welcomed me warmly and I could relax all of my staying:) The
… read more children is super cute, high educated, cleaver, creative, funny and energetic! Deirdra and Kenny are wonderful parents of the children! They are very nice and helped me all the time! The house and my room are very big and comfortable. The location is perfect to go to Galway city! I really like cycling so I borrowed bike from them but there's direct bus service to the city near the house!
My task was flexible but basically Monday to Thursday morning was free so when I could get up early, I walked around the house or cycled to the city. Usually before children coming home, I did some small house tasks- tidying up the kitchen and dining room, and hanging up and folding the laundry for about a hour. And then when children coming home, I gave some foods, helped with their homework and played together. I could be free when either of the parents coming home around 16:15 and after dinner I tidied up the kitchen, dining room and the playroom. All tasks aren't needed special skills! Friday was spending with Finn for a few hours and the parents come home earlier so I could be free after that. Weekends are all my own. I could get the opportunity to work at the cafe in the city and go explore to west Ireland!!
Minding 4 children sounds hard but it was rare to mind all of them alone and when I had to do, but Maggie-the oldest sister was like little mom and she minded other children very well! It was so helpful. When I needed my own space, they immediately understood and always respected my opinions. I enjoyed playing with them all the time:) They like especially UNO, building, hide and seek, play pretend etc...! I had to entertain them but honestly I was entertained by them and I learned many things from them. Traveling alone for long time sometimes makes me lonely, but I did NEVER feel during staying here!! I was so happy to see children growing cause they grow so fast...!
Thank you so so much again. I couldn't made great memories without you in Galway! When I will have a chance to visit Galway, I really want to come visit again! :)) I miss you all !!!

Eileen has a nice gentle energy about her. She grew into her role and it was obvious that she is a highly creative person with an artistic flair. the children loved her drawings in particular. she was always very polite and respectful. Eileen established playful relationships with our children despite the challenges that their different ages and needs brought. The three older children always looked forward to spending time with her.
Eileen showed us that she was adaptable throughout her stay. With the changing pattern of our work and the school holidays, we often didn't know what each day brought, but Eileen was available and willing to give us the help we needed.

I assisted in keeping the house neat and tidy on a daily basis, so Deirdre and Kenny could have more quality time with the children. With four little humans, they don't always get their deserved break.
The kids are full of energy. Over time, I really grew fond of them. They adored having me as a play-mate and were affectionate from the very beginning. Finn, the baby, didn't like it at first when I held him. After a few weeks, he got used to me and actually wanted me to pick him up. His 3 sisters loved playing hide and seek or Uno with me. We spend a lot of time in the garden too. Many happy little moments I'll remember.
Additionally, I enjoyed being able to use the kitchen to my liking and having total freedom over it. It helped me relax when it would get busy in the house. The surrounding area is also really nice for taking a walk, as there's lots of nature and animals to watch. I was provided with a bike, so I was mostly independent.
The weekends were mine, no exceptions! Ireland is gorgeous, I totally fell in love with this country. Galway is a dream, so cheerful, warm and lively. Always something going on, no matter the day or weather. The rest of Ireland is absolutely breathtaking aswell, lots to see and explore. I'll definitely come back and travel to the places I couldn't manage to go to.

I stayed with Kenny, Deirdre and the kids for over 3 months and I couldn’t have wished for a better first workaway experience! Kenny and Deirdre warmly welcomed me into their family and after a few days of getting to know everyone and everything I settled in easily.

… read more days always started with assisting them to get ready for school/daycare and offering help wherever it was needed in the morning rush. Usually, I got to spend one to two mornings a week with the two-year-old. She is super funny and I always enjoyed making jigsaws, playing with the dollhouse and going for walks with her.
The other days I mainly minded the older two girls after school. My tasks included preparing simple snacks, helping with their homework and playing with them. They are very creative and I already miss our drawing competitions, playing fetch or hide and seek in the garden as well as building forts and the tallest Lego towers!
Since Deirdre was on maternity leave, minding the baby boy on my own was an exception and never for a long period of time. Nonetheless, I quickly grew fond of him and I was always more than happy to keep an eye on him when Deirdre was in another room.
Additionally, I helped with light housework like tiding up and hoovering the downstairs living areas as well as doing the dished and the laundry.
Furthermore, Galway City is the perfect place to start day or weekend trips throughout Ireland/Northern Ireland and Kenny and Deirdre always gave me a ride to town if necessary.

Although I was obliged to stay abroad due to my studies, I had the best time takig care of the girls and getting to know the Irish culture, including Galway. My main task was taking care of Cara and Maggie when they got back home from school which included feeding them snacks, baking, colouring, playing fun games like memory or building forts out of blankets. Being outside on the trampoline or playing hide and seek were part of our afternoons aswell.
Sometimes I'd mind Doireann too, however that was more of an exception but I really enjoyed having her around, as she is such a funny and cute little toddler. Even now I sometimes miss them quite a lot. They are creative, clever and all in all just adorable. Laura carried out tasks required with flexibility and skill. She cooked me delicious and nutritious vegan and vegetarian meals and prepared a stash of healthy food for the children which i have in the freezer. She is a talented cook. The children loved making pizzas with her. Laura was a peaceful presence in our home and anyone would be lucky to have her as a workawayer.

Her planning and organising skills were much appreciated- particularly in our chaotic household with a newborn baby and two small girls.
She was an amazing female role model for our children- playing sport to a high level competitively. She can also play guitar and piano and was happy to teach the children when the mood suited.
