We're an aspiring permaculture family looking for adventurous people who can help us on the farm
and with our upcoming Airbnb cottage.

Our little Canadian family consists of Soa, Simon, and our two daughters Miali (9) and Luana (3).

Since the last 9 years, we worked to grow our food forest in the midst of the endangered coastal dry forest. Thanks to the volunteers and our fantastic team of locals, we have been able to plant and care for almost 2000 trees, bulid dozens of lasagna gardens, protect much of the hillsides with erosion control systems, build a very productive compost business as well as a small vermiculture venture.

Our long term goal is to extend this project into a full reforestation endeavor as well as becoming a sustainability education center; hosting youth groups from all over the world.

But for the moment, our focus is on improving our small business ventures so that it can support our family and community projects.

    WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a specifically dedicated breed of collaborators. We are in need of a few extra miles, of independent and proactive people, who are looking to make their mark somewhere in the world.

We're looking for people who like to get their hands dirty, reconnect with nature, live a healthy lifestyle, harvest fresh produce, learn about wild edible plants and a sustainable way of growing your own food.

If you’re a permaculture expert, social media wizard, artist, gardener, someone who loves construction or have any special skills to share, we would love to hear about it!

    Specifically:

1-A PAIR OF LONG TERM FOOD FOREST MANAGERS (COUPLE OR FRIENDS):
The managers are expected to fill serveral tasks mainly related to a small airbnb venture but also to the food forest, the compost management as well as the operational aspect of the vermiculture, that would amount to 25-30hr a week per volunteer.

A 2 MONTHS COMMITMENT IS EXPECTED (MINIMUM)

If you think you are up for the challenge, we will be sharing more details on the tasks and answering any other questions by emails and video calls.

Spanish is not necessary but a great asset considering we are working with a few members of our community on a daily basis and there is much to learn from them.

2-AN UNSCHOOLER TEACHER (NO EXPERTISE NECESSARY)
We have recently started a program for the kids of our community of Tabuchila Arriba (very small) where we receive the six rebels (they named themselves like that) twice a week and teach them stuff through play.
You will be provided with all the materials and spaces to ignite their creativity. We are also encouraging the use of English as the main language to communicate for them to be immersed in it BUT as their knowledge of the language is very basic, being able to speak Spanish is a plus.

2 MONTHS LONG COMMITMENT IS EXPECTED.

    WHAT CAN WE OFFER YOU:

Besides the experience of working on this great reforestation project, we are offering you a home away from home!

Also, we live only 15km from the beach town Canoa on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, so you get to enjoy both the quiet farm life on top of a green hill during the weeks and the beach life on the weekends (if that's your jam).

As a thank you for your work we provide you a weekly food basket with the basics, like rice or quinoa, beans, oats, panela, oil, spices and fresh eggs from the farm. You are also free to harvest the fruits and veggies that grow on the property.

Beside our beautiful location and kick-ass personalities, we don't pretend to know anything about anything.

What we offer is an alternative way of living your life, in body and mind. We personally learn everyday about agriculture, water system and animal care in Ecuador!

Life is never boring! And we believe, as forever students of the world, that you can teach us as much as we can. So, please, come share your knowledge with us!

We've been struggling with time and resources from the beginning, being parents to two young girls.

We're so very close and yet, giant steps are needed to reach our goals.

That’s where you come in! We need help with:

    - Reforestation

    - Food forest care

    - Community tasks

    - Farm managing

    - Agriculture (weeding/machete, tree pruning, harvesting)

    - Taking care of the animals (horses, chicken, dogs, cats)

    - General cleaning

    - Construction

    - Revitalisation and care of the garden

    - Beautification of the farm (flower planting, murals, paintings)

    - Trail marking

    - Help with social media, marketing and other technical tasks

    Here it is!

We are not looking for volunteers, we are looking to add new members to our family.

We are not offering a workaway experience, we are offering a second home!

And we will treat you as such!

Hope this is something your are looking for.

    Talk to you soon!

    Simon, Soa, Miali and Luana

Everything is hand-build, mostly with recycled material, from the houses, to the furniture to our yoga terrace. The housing is rustic but built with love.

You'll have a room or bed in the Yoga Shala with a shared kitchen to cook your own food. We provide sheets, a mosquito net and drinkable water. You can eat fruits and vegetables available on the farm as much as you want.

We try to have as much sustainable practices as possible. Our (handmade) bathroom is a compost toilet. We have a shared shower. The water system comes from a well in the forest and rain collection.

We don’t waste any food as any leftovers goes either to the chicken (or the dogs if there fast enough!) or to the compost pit. The soap, shampoo and toothpaste we use are biodegradable.

It all takes an extra effort to be in harmony with the land but it is very much worth it.

There is plenty of space to chill and relax; we have a large yoga terrace and hammocks everywhere around the house.

Lots of activities can be done around the farm, besides chilling and being artsy. Countless walks can be done on the land and around it. The views are diverse and outstanding on the farm as well as nearby.

The beachtown Canoa on the coast of the Pacific Ocean is only 15 km from our farm. Some volunteers like to stay there for the weekends and practice surfing and other beach activites.

We also often use a taxi for food runs; we can always make the best of both a share the ride.

As far as transportation to the farm goes, to get to Canoa there are buses from Quito, Guayaquil or Manta. We can also ask trusted drivers to pick you up at the airport and drive you all the way to the farm. We can help you out with the information by email.

If you choose a bus to Canoa, you have a few options but the best, in our opinion, is to take a 6$ taxi to our farm from Canoa. At the end of the ride there's a 300 hike up a hill to the farm.

There are also buses from Canoa to the entrance of Tabuchila (our village), but you'd have to walk 4 kms from the bus stop to the farm. Then, you just walk into town asking around for the gringo farm! It's gotta be an hour walk (Don't do it at midday). If you are up to it, there are buses every 15 minutes to the entrance of Tabuchila.

However way you come, we would be communicating and assist your arrival.
