Carpentry & Ice rink maintenance.
My outdoor adventure property is situated on 150 acres of riverfront land in Muskoka, Ontario. There is over 2km of private riverfront, and two waterfalls. I guide adventure tours at the land, and produce maple syrup. However, my main business is excavating & landscaping for cottages on nearby lakes. Pay is $18/hr. Will pay $20-25/hr for experienced skilled trades. 25-40 hours per week, 6 days a week.
This winter workaway adventure, when I plan to host about 2 at a time, will take place in Jan-April . You will be staying in a cabin, or house. We often venture into town to the community centre (gym, basketball court, squash court), to play sports, get groceries etc. Guests should have experience in the outdoors, have appropriate attire etc. Most of the photos are from the summer workaway.
The work will consist of renovating a house that I just bought across the river from the big adventure property. It will also include maintaining two outdoor rinks for a nearby city in the middle of the night.
I have done lots of backpacking and travelling myself, and know what type of experience guests are looking for. I take guests out into the community to meet some locals, do local hikes and lots of other recreational activities, see tourist spots in the area, and possibly up for bigger trips like a few night backcountry canoe /camping trip in central or northern Ontario. A truly Canadian experience.

Living off grid in the Canadian Forest. Your host is a paddler, maple syrup producer, builder, and lumberjack, so learning a lot about the rural country life in the forests of Central Ontario.

Simple camp carpentry projects, helping with firewood, clearing trails with hand tools. Summer/fall painting & staining. Landscaping/maintenance help. Cleaning. Basic carpentry help. Stuff like that, depends on the time of year and what we have going on at the time.

Canvas Prospector Tent with wood stove. Camp kitchen and bbq. Camp outhouse. Outdoor shower. Wood fired hot tubs overlooking the river. Very private camp.
We are able to provide a trip to town every 3 days or so if you don’t have a vehicle.

Our small town is 350 people. We have a brewery, small town pub, restaurants, cafe, general store etc. About 15 minutes away there two other towns of 15,000 people for more shopping/outings etc. Muskoka is known for cottaging, camps, tourism and beautiful nature. A big part of this stay is about living on the land for most of your visit. Runs to town for food will be arranged every few days if you don’t have a vehicle. Best for outdoor adventurers!
