We are based in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu promoting development through the medium of football on a daily basis. Providing young indians with a chance to play football will not only enhance their fitness but also skills like team-building, self-esteem, friendship, togetherness with the society, self-confidence and creativity. Organized coaching sessions with various trained coaches are conducted touching as many as seven hundred children every day.

we have been conducting a nationwide football contest annually which has so far witnessed participation from 7 different states for the last 3 years. The tournament serves as a supreme platform for showcasing young talents and enables us to pick the squad that would represent the country in the Homeless World Cup. Our charity soccer has been taking care of the travel and accommodation charges of all the participants and their coaches over these years.

We have been actively involved in helping the participants to get basic education and trying to put ‘drop outs’ back in to academics. We also encourage them to practice arts and crafts like dance, singing, poetry, drama. To keep tabs on the physical health of the participants we organize regular health check–ups by a general physician and a paediatrician. Psychological counselling is regularly done by a professional to assess the situation and evaluate behavioural changes, observation of instructional response. Nutrition talks present simplified facts of health and hygiene in the form of a program that makes it easy for our beneficiaries to make good choices when it comes to feeding their family. Through books, documentaries, photography and films we educate children on topics like Wildlife, Forests, water conservation, sanitation and Garbage Recycling so that they become environmentally responsible.

Accommodation Depending on your wishes we can offer you a number of accommodation alternatives. Typically, volunteers stay at our main centre in Bokhara, where they are in close proximity to most of the centers. The center provides basic amenities: 3 meals a day, a personal bed. Water for cleaning is supplied by well; drinking water is brought in barrels), there is internet at the center but expect an environment which makes you feel in rural India. Staying here means you are at the heart of all activities and living in a community of friendly Slum Soccer staff.

You can get a real cultural experience by staying at one of our host families which will either be within Nagpur city premises or out near the remote centers. The costs of this is approximately $20 per day, which includes three meals a day, a personal bedroom (if possible), shower and bathroom facilities. Staying in the city provides you with most luxuries which you will be accustomed to (internet cafes, shopping centers, bakeries, etc), but you will be a little bit further away from the bigger Slum Soccer centres.

Lastly we can recommend and help you with reservations for hotels of different standards , but costs will be significantly higher. However, while this will guarantee your own room and bathroom, you will have to make your own food arrangements.

    Practical Information

    Life in Nagpur
Nagpur lies directly in the center of India with a population of 2.5 million. With its’ centrality, the city is a major transport hub
for India and is celebrated as the ‘Orange county’ for its big trade in oranges. Although the city may get hectic at times, there
are some great escapes just outside Nagpur including beautiful lakes, temples and national parks where the famous Bengal
tiger can be spotted. Nagpur is not known as a tourist hotspot, and foreigners should expect to be seen as a rarity, but the city’s
inhabitants are generally kind and eager to engage in conversation. Indian food is well-known to be flavorful and spicy, and
Nagpur is no different. Like any other major city in India, Nagpur also has some huge contrasts between rich and poor which
you will face on a daily basis.

    When to come?
We do not encourage international volunteers to come to Nagpur in the
summer months, from March until July. These are the months where
temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius. The ideal time to volunteer is during the winter months, between September and February. Having said that, it hardly ever rains and temperatures still average between 19-23 degrees Celcius (Avg temperature chart on right).

    What to bring (the essentials)?
    • Mosquito/ insect repellant
    • Regardless of whether you come in summer or winter,
sunscreen and sunhats are a must
    • Toiletries (towels, tampons, shaving kit, etc)
    • Medical provisions (diarrhea tablets, any allergen medicine, etc)
    • First aid kit
    • Loose and light clothes, bear in mind you will be covered in dust and dirt after a days work
    • Proper footwear for football (trainers) and more leisure purposes (sandals are advised)
