Vom Host für Workawayer (Mike)
Without a reference, a decision to host was intuitive after a cafe meeting to exchange Workaway credentials.
With his engineer's inquisitive mind , Good Samaritan 'can do' attitude fuelling his playful creative bent Mike's three day stay sped by. What fun it was to have such stimulating intelligent company, not to mention his skilful
… read more capacity for fixing things and the obvious pleasure that resolving any 'engineering ' challenge affords him. He had skill and I had tools.
He was able to make many small jobs that had eluded me feel like child's play and more to the point, Mike engages utterly with the spirit of the Workaway program. A mutual exchange on so many levels .
Mike's family were never far from his heart. His wife and two daughters clearly occupy the core of his world - whether building tree houses and tiny houses or hatching plans for new projects to permit more family travelling adventures .
Mike is a sensitive autonomous adult, a capable entertaining traveller who absolutely thrives on finding diversity and commonality in shared human experience. Even as he was assailed by regular encounters marvelling at the phenomena that is 'Trump for President' Mike was unphased , intelligently dispelling the pariah of Trump's parochial small mindedness, lies and obvious factual inconsistencies in his mass media campaigning, the reach of which did surprise Mike.
He decided to 'go bush' (no Texan pun intended) on his rest days heading for the desert rather than taking to the more well trodden back packer trail. He managed to contend with the limits of Internet connectivity to intermittently run his car's GPS navigation system . His resilience undeterred he 'discovered' Bollon population 334, heard tell of our own Texas, fossicked at Lightning Ridge, connected with local family, proud of 60000 years of Indigenous cultural heritage in Moree and marvelled at the bell bird colony as he returned over Cinningham's Gap.
This howeve, not before he had 'run with the kangaroos' and experienced first hand the massive muster of cattle, - Aussies moving the herd across the magic arterial basin . He even found time to listen to the inter generational economic realities of contemporary Australian lives on the land. He returned to regale me with colourful stories of friendly publicans, iron bed heads and 'shared facilities' ( sorry no brekkie mate!) at a quintessential country pub - the whole town shut down - for a local's funeral .
Arriving the night before, he had broken the ice - a long tall Texan confronting the language barrier in his quest for 'gas' recounted in a skit to rival Fawlty Towers. All this leading to an invitation by astounded locals (unused to hosting lost Texan tourists ) to check out their property and to return 'next time' with his family.
From watching his enchantment with Australuan song birds, to recognising another traveller's awe at Brisbane's growing urban architecture, Mike was ever fully present.
And then there was his sense of humour, his obvious capability and his capacity to revel in simple pleasures and minor shared tasks completed without fuss or bother.
Without a doubt Mike Will be a welcome asset to any Workaway host who appreciates genuine service and takes the opportunity to return it with authentic hospitality. Thanks Mike I loved hosting your first Australian Workaway experience.

Wow above and beyond.
Really appreciate the place to stay and hope I helped enough for the stay I received.
I enjoyed helping and if back in the area would hope you would have a list of things I can do to earn my keep again.
Paula Thank You very much

Vom Host für Workawayer (Matthijs & Samantha)
Time has gone by so quickly since Matthijs and Samantha stayed with me this year that this feedback is long overdue. They are two of the kindest and most interesting intelligent people you will ever meet. Their love of travel, zest for life (exercises on the back deck together each morning) and willingness to engage with whatever adventure life
… read more throws at them was quite inspiring. Both Matthijs and Sam worked so very hard that I was quite overwhelmed. Whether training and playing with local rugby teams, discussing best way to rearrange rooms, or sharing meals and stories of shared joy in responding positively to the unpredictable aspects of life it was a pleasure to have their company both separately and together. A more easy going couple I cannot imagine. When they left it took some time to adjust. They had become a very welcome part of my world. Hopefully life will conspire for our paths to cross again.

It is very hard to describe our time with Paula and do justice to it in a couple of words. We've stayed with Paula for five weeks divided over two instances, where the second part we weren't workawaying, but helping out a friend.
Our first job was to fix the bikes (we're Dutch...). Next to that we helped out with gardening (clearing bamboo,

Paula likes people that don't beat around the bush and tackle a job straight away, which made us match really well. Don't be afraid to take initiative, there's enough to do.
Outside the working there's a lot of space for discussions, chatting, cooking, listening music and much more. Paula is one of the nicest persons you'll ever meet and she took care of us really well. She is an academic, is very literate and knows a lot about various indigenous cultures; she introduced us to a few artists and musicians. She also took time to show us some of the many sights in Brisbane and helped us out a number of times when we we're in a pickle. We've had an amazing time and will stay in touch for sure. Thanks for sharing your life with us; we hope we contributed a little bit!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Vom Host für Workawayer (Emma)
When Emma called to tell me she was staying with her brother for a week but was willing to come by to help me out anyway, I was immediately struck by her kindness.
As Emma launched into the task of untangling the rampant overgrown jungle that was my once orderly Japanese garden, to liberate the camellias we also discovered our common
… read more appreciation of the metaphysics of house and garden spaces and so began a joyful lightning mental rapport that has gone on to astound us both. it was almost bewildering.
There were so quickly many things we found ourselves able to share - unlooked for lessons in letting go of great and often imperfect love, profound sadness, grief and family loss, the strength and comfort of coming together, the solace of meaningful ritual.
From the beginning I admired Emma's easy capacity to connect and reflect - to process the life she is in the process of creating for herself and the one which remains mysterious and at times elusive. Her daring and calmly intelligent approach to travel, put me in mind of both Mr Curly and Vasco Pyjama (created by Australian whimsical political cartoonist and writer Michael Leunig). As she has come and gone over her several stays we write and now share that passionate exchange of word and image making both hearing the peel of the 'life goes on bells' . For us, I suspect, there will now always be the charm of the direction finding duck to remind us of our common journey each watched over by our unique 'gargling' angel. Workaway happenstance can be overwhelming indeed!

Sorry this has taken me so long to do, but that does not reflect on the quality of the experience that I had with Paula.
