Since I started surfing I always dreamed of a house by the beach, where you could surf good waves while living a more peaceful and meaningful life. Luckily that is now becoming a reality in Lobitos, Peru.
The house is located at the top of a little hill with a panoramic view of the ocean and surf spot. The idea is to create a place as self sufficient as possible. Electricity comes from solar energy. Lobitos is a desert, so for now we have to get the water from a water plant in another town. Water is recycled for gardening. I'm trying to grow some fruits and vegetables like avocados, maracuya, papaya, tomatoes, ajies and others.
There will also be "andenes" (Incas used them for agriculture) down the hill, with few bungalows and gardens.
There is great surf around here! Surfing is the main reason most of the people come here. Surf is very consistent with waves every day, all year long. Weather is warm and sunny most of the year, but gets windy during the winter which is great for windsurfing/kitesurfing.
Basically, this is a place to surf, relax and meet some cool people!

Here you'll learn how to work with bamboo, how to cure it, treat it and cut it techniques like the fish mouth. Aside from gaining technical skills with bamboo you'll meet locals and experience our lifestyle while surfing the best waves in the country!!
Right now is basically general maintenance of the house, especially keeping the plants alive! You are welcome to grow more plants and/or improve the watering system for them!
If you have carpentry skills and have a creative mind, you are very welcome to build and/or improve things around the house too!

Lobitos is an old town established in the beginning of the 20th century. The first people here were from England; they built many houses, social clubs, a pier, church and even a cinema (the first in South America!) They started the town because of the oil found in the area. By the mid 20th century, the town was almost destroyed by the military and now the local people, which are mostly fisherman and surfers, are trying to recover this surfing paradise.
We want to live as community, ecologically, trying to minimize our footprint, creating awareness around the locals to live more sustainable lives, protecting the area.
