We are an Irish couple that live in Rauland, Vinje, Norway with our joyful 20 month old baby boy and 4 year old boy. We’re looking for some help! My name is Michelle and I am married to Declan. Declan runs different music and arts festivals and events, and I work in a department of traditional arts in a university, currently researching a very old Irish vocal practice and its benefits for our health and wellbeing. We are a relaxed, quiet and easygoing family - Declan doesn't drink, and since having babies I don't drink much nowadays! We love music, arts, history, yoga and good food. We are looking for a calm, caring and creative individual that is happy, flexible and independent. Non-smoking individual preferable to come stay with us and help with day-to-day living. Someone who likes cooking and being around a toddler and is willing to play with our fun and active children is preferable. We would prefer if our workaways were over 23 but we are open to younger workaways. We also have a preference for those who have lived away from home and are interested in exploring the area. Rauland is a beautiful small village set in the mountains and beside the stunning lake Totak. It is known for its excellent skiing. A short walk from the apartment you can find cross country ski tracks - you can rent cross country skis from the library for free! (Snow normally arrives some time in November) Also a short walk away you can get the ski bus to the ski centres if downhill skiing or snowboarding is your thing (there is a possibility to rent ski equipment cheaply locally). It is also a good destination if you like drawing, painting or photography :)

Arbeit
We need some help mainly with household chores. We are looking for a workaway to come stay with us for 1 week in March, or 1 week in April. Your main job will be cooking family friendly dinners, prepping some snacks and some cleaning - 4 to 4.5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Weekends are you own to go ski and/or explore this beautiful area.
We encourage you to get out and explore. We would like you to enjoy your time here as much as we enjoy having you.

You will have a room in our three bedroom house and share our bathroom and facilities.
The house is not big so we appreciate our workaways being considerate sharing the space.

Rauland is known for its idyllic traditional log cabins, rose maling design on the cabins, crafts and hardanger fiddle traditions. You can wander and learn about these traditions in the local museums and university department.
And we can share some of this knowledge about local traditions and Irish traditions if you like!
Rauland is located along the Hardangervidda, a national park.
Rauland is also close to the UNESCO World Heritage town Rjukan, a great destinations for a visit. For some more information see: visitrauland website
Our house is about a 30 minute walk from the village of Rauland, in the scenic area of Austbø (with local swimming pool and well-known Lega cafe). Rauland is a popular ski destination - both cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. There are cross-country tracks near the house and there is a ski bus that travels to the slopes. If you would like, there is an opportunity to rent skis from the ski centres or cross-country skis from the library.
Haukeliespressen bus NW180 goes from Oslo to Åmot Vinje Kro. Åmot is a 20 minute drive from Rauland. There are connecting local buses from Åmot to Rauland.
