Our Organic Farm is a lush 8 1/2 acre property nestled in the peaceful Sahtlam Hills between Duncan and Lake Cowichan. Certified organic since 2005, we grow a wide variety of market garden vegetables, berries and herbs; and, raise chickens. Production fields are fenced but the rest of the property remains natural allowing deer and elk to move through and drink from our two ponds. Frequent visits from eagles are common and in spring the swallows return each year to nest and raise their young.
We are a married couple who share the farm with 1 large dog and 1 cat.

Living and working with us will provide mutual opportunities for promoting diversity and learning about each other's culture. You will have the opportunity to help with daily tasks and experience life as a farmer while contributing to a sustainable, global community. Should you be working towards improving your English language skills, we offer patience, encouragement and advice.
Helping hands are welcomed between April and October each year.
It is an active, labour-intensive, small-scale operation where guests share all aspects of running the farm. This might include preparing garden beds, planting, weeding, or harvesting; caring for the chickens; and, mending fences or helping with construction.
We ask for a range of 5 hours a day (5 days/week), which includes time helping prepare meals (that we eat together), and cleaning up. We also encourage our guests to prepare one of their special meals for us all once a week. Hours are flexible, depending on weather and needs (longer days if we're working on a major project, balanced by shorter days).
We prefer to accommodate pairs or couples given the distance from town (10 KM). Public transportation to Duncan is available, and usually someone needs to run to town for something each day.
Our guests will share a queensize bed in a large bedroom in our lovely log house rancher.
We provide 3 nourishing meals per day. Breakfasts are sometimes shared meals such as waffles, fruit and yoghurt or bacon and eggs, and often make-your-own depending on schedules and when everyone gets up. Lunches are usually self-serve - garden produce, homemade soups, or breads & cheeses, or dinner leftovers. Dinners are hearty and eaten together. We eat our own organic chicken and local beef or lamb or seafood when available. Vegetarian options may be provided.
Our farm suits travelers who enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, and swimming (Cowichan River and the Canada Trail are nearby). A local pastime is to spend the day floating down the river on inflated inner tubes. On summer afternoons (when it is too hot to work) we often spend afternoons at Cowichan Lake or the river.
B.C.s beautiful capital, Victoria, is accessible by public transportation and local towns (Duncan, Cowichan Bay, Chemainus, Lake Cowichan) are accessible via local bus service. Whale watching and kayak rentals are available in Cowichan Bay. The local bus stops at the end of our driveway.
