  Hey there, I am Harry from the UK and my wife is Lior from Israel and we recently moved to the North of Portugal and bought an absoloutely wonderful 5 acre farm. Still pinching ourselves that we get to call it our own. We have so much going on here, beautiful views over the Douro river, a waterfall and stream running through the bottom of the property, house fed from spring water and an abundance of productive trees inc: Apple, pear, peach, cherry, plum, apricots, kiwi, persimmon, fig, olives all the citrus, loquat, berries, currants, walnuts, chestnuts, hazel and even recently found an avocado tree with uhhh one avocado on it! I almost forgot the grapes... we have a lot of those too.
  We have a few woodland areas where Pines, eucalyptus, cork oaks, strawberry trees, willows, beeches, juniper berries and oaks are growing.
  
  So many trendy words these days i'm not sure which one to use anymore, but we don't use chemicals, we are organic, based on regen ag/permaculture/natural farming principles whichever word you like to use and I guess our vision is a to use a lot of different ideas from different fields of thought.
  
  Harry leads the operations outside,having spent 7-8 years volunteering, learning and expanding my knowledge of the soil and ecosystems and now has a ton of information and tips to pass on.
  
  Lior is amazing in the kitchen, using everything from the veggie beds as well as lots of foraging from our farmland. She makes yummy ferments, bread, cakes, delicious dinners and many potions! It's a real pleasure to be fed by her!!
  
  
  LATEST UPDATE:
  This Summer we are doing a big house renovation, we have professional builders here as we change most things in the house from the roof to the floor. Some time will be spent assisting the builders with some simple tasks and making their life easier. As we will also be working a lot on the house it will be great to have some help with maintaining the garden, watering, helping make food and refreshments and in general tidying up.
  
  There will also be plenty of time for other learnings and experiences with relation to food preservation/cooking and all things related to the farm like gardening, composting, tree care etc.
  
  Due to us living in our spare house the sleeping arrangements are not ideal, but you will have your own double sofa bed which is in our kitchen. Perfect for couples or a single person.
  You will be asked to work 4 hours a day Monday to Friday and in return all meals are included, as well as many pickings from the farm as you can possibly desire! One things is for sure when with us, you will be well fed and looked after! Due to the slightly compact situation, most of our meals and life in general will be spent together.
  
  You will have the weekends to explore the surrounding areas, hang out with our friends, and explore our wonderful property.
  
  Both of us have volunteered a lot and have some of our hosts remain good friends. Now it is time for us to be the hosts and we really look forward to having you here, sharing stories, skills and knowledge.
  
  We like to have a video chat with people who are interested, so we can get to know each other better and see if it's going to be a good match, whilst clearing up any questions you have.

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  I volunteered a LOT during my travels and hope i figured out what makes a good host or not. I gained a lot of skills and knowledge working with amazing farmers and growers and am happy to share all this with you too.
  Lior can teach you Hebrew, or you can learn the Queens (am i meant to say king's now) english from myself.
  Israeli food is absoloutely delicious and Lior is an amazing cook, she would be happy to share her skills as well as teach you about fermentation and food preserving.

  Arbeit

  Some of the day will be focused on helping the builders, tidying up, and helping the operation run smoothly. The rest will be on helping us maintain the farm and gardens, helping out in the kitchen and of course having a goood time!
  
  We will all be living in a relatively small home together, so of course some basic house cleanliness and maintenance, like washing dishes are to be expected.
  
  Lior has a ton of things to share in the kitchen and if we have the time for processing some of our harvests then you can also help out with making jams, liquors, vinegars, ferments and lots of yummy treats.

  Unterkunft

  Due to our house being under renovation we will all be staying up in the spare house. There is one spare room, for Lior and I and volunteers will stay in our newly revamped kitchen, where there is a large and very comfy double sofa bed.
  There is no wifi up here, but we both have lots of data and will be happy to share out hotspots with you.
  The toilet is 20metres away attached to the main house under renovation, but that part of the house is not having any work done so will maintain accessibility.

  Was noch ...

  There is a train station that runs along the Douro river just 5 minutes from the house. This can take you to/from Porto as well as further up stream. The closest medium size town is Resende where Supermarkets, shops, cafes and most other ammenities can be found, is around 10 minutes drive away. Having your own car will certainly give you more freedom.
