I spent 3.5 weeks with Susanne in Immenstedt this summer (2023). Before arriving I wasn't sure what to expect, this was my third volunteer experience at a farm but the first time being the only volunteer. I was quite stressed out when I arrived at the farm after a really stressful period at my regular office job and the first days I kind of
… read more regreted signing up for working thru my whole holiday. But! What an experience it was. First of all my riding skills developed a lot. Susanne is very generous with her time and I got the chance to ride every day if I wanted to, she also helped me improve my posture and gave me lots of feedback on my riding. I also got the chance to see a lot of this beautiful region from above since we got flying three times during my stay, flying was of course supercool! The work was quite physically hard (as always on a farm) but I really enjoyed it and the tasks was simple to learn. I also really enjoyed going on walks with Akela, Susannes rescue dog and of course taking care of the horses. Eating breakfast and laughing about the rainy weather every day with Susanne are some great memories of mine. Its hard to summerize my stay at Immenstedt in just a short review but Susanne really thought me a lot about healthy cooking, horses, airplanes, german culture and I really enjoyed our conversations. I left Immenstedt the most healthy I've been for a long time, both physically but most important mentally. I've been home for almost a month now, and brought a lot of the things I've learned on the farm with me home. To eat better, exercice more and most and formost I've started to put my phone away during the days and taking more time to my self to reflect. I am truly thankful for my stay with Susanne, it gave me lots of insights and great memories. Coming back home I told my colleges at work that I think all of them could benefit from some farm work at least once a year. Cause even tho I was working during my holiday, i've never felt this well rested. Thank you for everything Susanne, and please give Akela a pat from me. /NoraDu kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

What a great experience!
Thanks to everyone on the farm! I had a great time and learned so much about working and living with horses:)
But with such nice horses it was easy to learn everything from the bottom up.
Apart from the daily work there was always time for some riding/ground work lessons or flying with Susanne. And how could i forget -

You are quite free to choose where you wanna help or start a little project in addition to the daily work.
While you will be alone in the mornings for half of the week, there is always someone around or something happening on the farm in the afternoons and evenings.
Dithmarschen gave me it’s typical weather, but from time to time the sun showed itself. 🌥
I really recommend Susanne and her farm as a Workawaystay!
Greetings to every human and animal on the farm👋🏼🎄Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

What can I say... The time I had with Susanne on her farm was simply incredible! From the first second I felt so welcome and I totally adapted the farm lifestyle, so that it was really hard to imagine going home ever again ;) Although you need to be physically fit and self-reliant to do the work that needs to be done, my stay in Immenstedt felt

As you see, I had an amazing stay, so if you are thinking about travelling to Immenstedt - just do it! You won't regret it.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

What a wonderful experience for someone only used to office work ;-)
I had a great time (5 weeks) living, working, talking, riding, flying, eating and laughing with Susanne.

This is a job for someone who doesn`t mind physical work and being/working self-reliant during the day. I got all the necessary information in the beginning and Susanne was always around for questions during my stay.
By the way, I lost 8 kg in weight in 5 weeks... what a bonus!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

This was a great workaway experince! I am already looking forward to go back. During the three weeks I stayed, I have learned a lot about managing a farm and how to ride very sensetive horses. I also learned to do some groundwork with the horses. It was such a good experience to ride very sensetive and well trained horses! It was also very cool to

I enjoyed thinking and helping Susanne to make a board to store the Gamasche (sorry don't know the word in English).
I would recommend this place when:
- you like to be outdoors a lot
- you love animals, especially horses
- you want to learn much about horses and managing a farm
- you like to fly ;)
- you like to work
Dear Susanne, thank you so much for this very very very nice experience!!!!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

My stay: I stayed with Susanne for a month in the summer of 2018, as my first workaway experience. I was the only workawayer for most of the time, but was joined by another (awesome!) workawayer for 10 days and that was great fun, as well as a great help. I had a brilliant experience: was immediately embraced as one of the family and got to do all
… read more sorts of fun and interesting things, besides spending time with the lovely horses, dog and cat.
Daily tasks: Taking the horses to pasture in the morning, mucking out their stables and replenishing their hay and water, poo-picking the field, watering the plants. The work isn’t difficult but it is repetitive and can be tedious so listening to music or podcasts helps. Also, two workawayers is definitely better than one! Cuts the time in half and you can chat and enjoy each others’ company. You should be willing to put in the hours of labour for these animals; it’s not just a light holiday!
Fun stuff: Occasional riding lessons, any exciting additional activities going on (I went to archery lessons a couple of times, and also did kayaking and went swimming in the local river and the pool). I also got to fly with Susanne, which was an absolutely amazing, totally unique experience. You really are part of the family so they’ll let you get involved in anything interesting.
Food: I’m vegetarian but this was no issue. Breakfast was a selection of cheeses (and cold meats if you’re not veggie), with fresh rolls and bread, and coffee. Lunches and dinners were salad or sandwiches or cooked things.
Language: My German was limited but I learnt a lot during my stay (although of course, some of it very niche and horse-centric!) Everyone was very accommodating, speaking English when I couldn’t grasp the German. I would say some German or French (as Suzanne is a French teacher) would be helpful and you can improve whilst there.
Accommodation: I had a lovely room in the house, and used the downstairs bathroom. No issues there.
Overall, I had an awesome time with Susanne and her family and friends and would definitely recommend this workaway to any horse enthusiast willing to put in the effort and be privileged with being part of the family. Would definitely go back!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

This was a great place to continue my education of horsemanship because Susanne has wide and deep knowlegde of horses and here is an opportunity to watch and participate in riding and ground work lessons.
On the farm live eight wonderful horses and my main task was to take care that in the morning they are brought to the meadow, in the evening -
… read more back to the stables, that their boxes are clean and they have food and water every day. That was my favourite job.
But there are a lot of other opportunities to take care of the household here - to heat house with the wood, to prepare the wood using two different machines, to clean the windows and spider webs of the stables, to rake leaves, to set the meadow free of horse apples, to help to take shavings from wood workshops, to go out for a short or a long walk with the dog, to take care of a very cute, blind cat who was purring every time when I gave him food and while he was sleeping in my lap.
Susanne is always in good mood and full of energy. If the weather is good you can go flying by a small aircraft togetger with her as a pilot and to enjoy Northern Germany from the bird view. I even had an unforgettable chance to participate in an acrobatic flight together with her friend.
Although Susanne works too much she also knows how to celebrate life. It happened several times that her best friend Bettina arrived with a cake and we simply drank coffee in the middle of a busy day. Bettina also cooks the most delicious pancakes in the world which you can try with homemade marmelade. And don't forget to taste the walnuts that have grown in Susanne's garden. You won't regret it.
One Sunday I was invited to take part in a beautiful riding in the neighbourhood together with a riding pupil. And during my stay we also had a marvellous day at Hagenbeck - the zoo in Hamburg. But daily I had a chance to watch the wild rabbits who have a whole empire on Susanne's property.
On this farm even a vacuum cleaner, a dish washer and a tractor have names. Thank you so much Susanne, Bettina, Hickory, Benny, Alina, Gandhi, Hazel, Tosca, Dilana, Favorita, Mo, Akila, the ducks, the rabbits, Hetty, Emma and Fritzi for making my stay here so nice! All the best to all of you!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Working at Susanne's farm was a wonderful experience. When I arrived, there were a lot of new things : new dog, new horse, but everything went well.
Susanne is a amazing person, very generous and good at a lot of interesting things. She has a remarkable approach with the animals and the horses in particular. She will teach you to be a coherent
… read more and respectful horserider and to always ask yourself if your horse can properly understand what you want. The horses are all really nice and well trained, especially those you will ride.
Work itslef is not complicated, but physical and there is a lot to do. I prefered when we were 2 workawayers. Of course, you can have a day-off if you ask.
Susanne and her friends will enjoy showing you the country. Flying with Susanne in the small airplane, listening to a gospel choir on a beach in Büsum were amazing experiences !
In my opinion, working at this farm is perfectly adapted to passionate of horses and physically fit people. But if you don't know yet how to ride, no problem Susanne will be pleased to teach you and you will learn the best basis ever.
So thank you so much for this amazing teaching. I miss everyting there and I will really be pleased to come again !Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Susanne is a super woman, she is a mother, she is a teacher, she is a farm keeper, she is a horse rider, she is a pilot and pilot trainer... We spent the Christmas eve with her whole family, it was joyful to see her family members open all the surprised gifts with big smiles, we even received gifts from her! I have to say, I had all the super cool life experience there and I miss the horses a lot.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
