To say I loved my time on Bofin would be an understatement. I spent a little over 5 weeks with Mary, Simone, Aileen, Saorise, and Jamie and enjoyed every minute of it.

I had plenty of opportunities to ride and bringing the ponies to and from the fields was a highlight, and a lovely way to start and end the day.

Jenny is a friendly, outgoing, responsible, organised and positive person. Loves children and animals. Always willing to help in any way. Great company to have around and always entertaining. I wish her well in her adventures across the globe. Thank you Jenny for coming and staying with us 😊
I came at the beginning of May, still undecided how long I would stay and ended up until middle of July.
The kids are the cutest little monsters in the world and absolutely adorable. I basically jumped in the role of the Nanny, brought them to school, picked them up, played games, tried feeding them and just had some fun time and became part of

The work with the horses is easy enough if you like being outside and don't mind walking them in the riding centre and getting them ready for the next track.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to join on the island and social life in the pub is also a must do, if you're into trad music!
Overall, this has been the most memorable experience so far and I cannot wait to get back on this little paradise in the west of Ireland.

… read more small. Taking care of the children, Aileen and Saoirse, was lovely as both of them are really nice and very cute. In the beginning Aileen helped me a lot when I didn't get what Saoirse was asking for. But I figured it out really fast as it was mostly something to eat, especially chocolate ;).
Mary always makes sure that her workawayers are having a good time and feel comfortable. There was no day I didn't go the horses and I got to ride nearly everyday even when we had lot's of treks. Mary gets you everything you need for life, she takes really good care of you and wants you to enjoy your time. I, for my part, really enjoyed my time there and I am not the only one who did. Lot's of the girls keep coming back every year. This island is just a special place. Your day doesn't end with work it always ends in one of the three pubs late in the night. In these two month I made many new friends who I even visited when I left Inishbofin. I definitly will come back at some point. Even if it's not for a workaway I just want to see the people again who made these two month so special.
In the end I didn't want to leave the island a all. I cried when I had to say goodbye Mary and the kids and I've never done that before as I am not really emotional. Especially not when it comes to saying goodbye.
I can recommend this place to everyone who loves horses and wants to meet new people. I just finished school and there was no better place to go than on a small irish island in the middle of the atlantic.

This was my first work away and I couldn’t be luckier!
I stayed with Mary, Simon and their two daughters for one month and it was a great time for me.
I was worried about my English because it’s not very good, but Mary is a very patient and kind person.

I shared this experience with other two girls, a German girl and an other Italian girl that I didn’t know before.
I really enjoyed time with them, after Bofin I met the German girl to Berlin and I will meet the Italian girl for her graduation.
Time on the island is great, work is not hard, you have to bring the horses from the fields to the riding centre, do treks with tourists, sometimes mind the kids, Aileen and Saoirse are very good and taking care of them is very easy because they’re open mind and happy kids.
The island is beautiful, in my free time I walked a lot around and I could ride horses with the other girls and go to the beaches: canting on the beach is amazing!
During night, we always went to the pub to drink Guinness and listen to Irish music.
Leaving Bofin, Mary, her family and the other girls was very sad for me and I really would like to come back soon!

… read more their house. They introduced me to everybody and everybody on Inishbofin was very friendly, open and always up for a chat. Their two daughters are just sweet and easy to take care of. They are so uncomplicated and very open to new people.
It was a great experience to spend time with them and Mary was very patient and had trust in me even with taking care of her baby.
My work was half of the time with the horses and the other half taking care of the kids.
The work with the horses is very enjoyable and not to hard. Mary is very experienced with horses and I learned a lot from her. She took me pony shopping, bought a barely trained horse and let me help her to train it wich was very exciting. I really liked that Mary took some time in the beginning to show me everything and it was never a problem to ask again, if I didn´t know something. Once I knew the routine and the horses Mary let me do everything independently and I got the chance to train the horses in the arena or go to the treks/ the beach. She always made sure, that you would´t get bored and let me do cool stuff like riding over to a smaller island on low tide or going swimming with the horses wich was just amazing! Apart from training the horses I took customers on treks or was leading them. They were always very friendly and talkative wich was great to practice my english. The horses are all lovely and very fun to work with.
Inishbofin is just beautiful with stunning beaches, bog and mountains and discovering it on the horses is a brilliant way of seeing it! The Island has a small population but I have met so many nice people over the summer, that you forget about that fact. What I was surprised of, is that there are many young people on the Island and it didn´t take long to make some friends. There is a lot of great live music, good fun going out at night and especially on the weekends it gets very busy with visitors.
I can definitely recommend to stay with Mary and her Family, they were great hosts and I had one of the best summers in my life!

July 2018 was the time of my life!
This was my first workaway-experience and it couldn't have been any better! I've stayed with Mary, her husband Simon and their 2 daughters Aileen and Saoirse for 4 weeks, together with 2 Italian workaway-girls and I enjoyed every single day. Our days started at 9/ 9:30 am with bringing in the horses to the riding
… read more centre and getting them ready for the first trek. If the customers were experienced riders, I accompanied them on a horse, if they were beginners, I walked and led them with a leadrope, if necessary. I really loved talking to our customers, as they were always super nice and came from everywhere around the world, which made these treks some kind of cultural exchange. When there were no bookings, I was allowed to school the horses in the arena, so I got to ride a lot and I was very happy about that! Sometimes I stayed at home to mind the kids, which was a real challenge for me at the beginning, as I wasn't really experienced with babies (and I have never changed diapers before, but it's easier than I thought! :D). But I was surprised, how fast both kids got used to me! They are both super cute and adorable and it was great fun playing with them. :)
In the evening, I went to the pub almost every day, together with the other girls, which is funny, because at home, I never go out! But these nights were awesome and I think, it's part of the Irish experience to go to the pub, drink Guinnes (the typical Irish beer) and listen to the great Live-music.
Mary is the perfect host, as she makes you feel like a part of the family and is a super patient person. So if you have any questions, or don't understand something, just ask her and she will explain it again, even for a 3rd or a 4th time! :)
Leaving the island was very hard and I think, I will definitely come back sometime!

I stayed with Mary, Simon and Baby Aileen for about 6 weeks and absolutly enjoyed it! The Island is an awesome place to go riding. Marys Horses are all carm and I felt very comfortable riding them to the lovley Beaches and over the Mountains of Inishbofin.

… read more towards new people and so you wont have any problems in getting in touch with her. I allways had a blast with her because she is a quick learner and allways happy to play.
You will have enough time to explore the Island, go riding and make new contacts with people from all over the world. I met so many nice people on Inishbofin and enjoyed going to the pubs during the nights and listening to the wonderful irish music they played there.
Also maybe good to know is that allthough you are on an Island, you still have excellent internet access.

Also, I really enjoyed the island, as it is pretty small, People know each other very well-and are very open and welcoming! My stay got only better the longer I was there and the more People and the more of the island I knew (also, they had some great Music sessions over there)
So although working hours vary because of the time of the year and weather, you still get enough free time to enjoy Inishbofin or go to Galway for a Weekend.

I worked depending on Mary's schedule which depends on the weather. So sometimes you will work more than 5 hours a day and somedays when it's raining a lot you won't work at all. But you definitely have 2 days off a week.
If you want to go to Inishbofin, you do have to like Island life but Irish people are very welcoming and warm!
