•••ABOUT US•••
Bienvenidos, welcome, willkommen!
LUCAS (in his 50s and from Mexico) is running this Place
. with TERRY (in her 60s and from the US) as your on-sitehost, and
. ULLA (also in her 60s but from Germany) managing the workawayer page and communications.
A Mexican - American - German team.
This Place consists of 4 apartments, 7 studios, and 1 room for the workawayers, a pool, lots of plants, and a labyrinth of more rooms, stairs, decks, and passages.
All are in constant need to be taken care of.
Btw, this is NOT A HOSTEL, tho it looks like one!
•••ABOUT LUCAS & TERRY•••
Lucas, El Jefe, is originally from Mexico City, but has spent decades living in the Bahia de Banderas.
He is one of these guys, that can do anything he puts his mind to, and most of the time he does it well.
He is very much an introvert.
Terry is originally from the US, but has been living here in Mexico for close to 2 decades.
She trains and manages our workawayers.
She bounced back and forth between being an introvert and an extrovert.
•••OUR OFFER•••
We offer you a guestroom with a shared bathroom, a shared kitchen, and a few spaces to hang out.
Your regular workaway hours are:
Mon to Fri
8 am to 1230 pm
. Starting with a dog walking at 8 am,
. a 90 minute break inbetween for Mercado shopping and/or breakfast,
. and ending with another dog walking at 12 noon.
We have enuf rooms open, especially in summer and fall, to have workawayers overlap for a few days.
That way the outgoing workawayers can help train the incoming ones.
•••IT'S A FUNKY PLACE!•••
And I mean FUNKY.
. This Place, being close to the ocean and its corrosive nature, does provide lots of opportunities to find creative and low cost solutions to all kinds of problems.
. Our Main Kitchen is an open air kitchen, and it gets dusty, no matter how much or how often you clean it.
. Due to living in the tropics, we do have termites. We try to keep on top of them and erradicate them, but... they keep coming back.
. Oh, and our pool sometimes works, and sometimes it doesn't.
. And... sometimes the electricity in your room comes via an extension cord rather than thru outlets in the wall.
If these are issues you can live with, then this is a good place for you.
If these funky kind of issues make you feel uncomfortable, then it might be better to look for a different host.
***ABOUT OUR DOGS***
. Mana is a Belgian Malinois, and she is 8+ years old,
. Oso is a Labrador-Rottweiler mix, and he is 4+ years old.
(see pictures below)
Because both of our dogs are very territorial, we cannot host workawayers, who want to bring their own dogs or cats.
***ABOUT OUR VILLAGE***
The population of La Cruz is a mix featuring
- a Mexican village,
- plus a snow bird population of mostly US and Canadian retirees during the winter months,
- plus year round or part time sailors anchored in the La Cruz Marina close to the apartments.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten
GartenarbeitenBetreuung von TierenHausarbeitenKultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
Travelers have the opportunity to live and volunteer in a complex environment:
. There are Mexicans, Americans, Germans, and Canadians living on this property in the middle of a Mexican fishing village;
. Some are year-round renters, some come for a few nites;
. Those of us living on and/or visiting the property range in ages from 2 till 75, tho most of us are in our 60s; and
. We constantly switch back and forth between 2 languages (English, and Spanish) with various skill levels and improvisational abilities plus some German mixed in there.
Welcome to life in the midst of a Mexican fishing village with lots of visitors in the winter and half empty in summer - all directly on the Pacific ocean.Arbeit
We ♡ LOVE ♡ INTROVERTS ♡ as most of us living here:
. enjoy spending lots of time by ourselves
. while also being friendly with our neighbors, when and if we run into each other.
We are asking all of our workawayers
. to stay a MINIMUM OF 4 weeks,
. help us Mo - Fr from 8 am to 1230 pm, and
. to be available for the following tasks:
1) WEEKLY CLEANINGS of the (big) public spaces of the property (including the Pool Bathroom, the Main Kitchen, several stairs, and lots of tiled floors)
2) CARRYING 20 LITER / 5 GALLON FILTERED WATER BOTTLES (called garafons in Mexico) up and down stairs.
THIS IS A MUST!!!
3) WALKING OUR 2 BIG DOGS MANA AND OSO (see pictures below) on separate walks in the neighborhood due to them being quite territorial.
Loving big dogs is another MUST.
4) WATERING and taking care of our +/-100 potted plants
5) If you LOVE organizing a workshop filled with old, extra, and to be repaired parts, and are good at it, LUCAS would very quickly be your best friend!!!
We are looking forward to hearing from you!Gesprochene Sprachen

You will be staying in one of our both funky and creative rooms with a double bed and use of the Pool Bathroom.
In addition, we offer:
. A fully equipped Main Kitchen
. filtered drinking water in both your room and the kitchen
. WiFi
. A 5 minute walk to the nearest beaches (which are NOT surfing beaches)
. A 3 - 5 minute walk to 2 grocery stores, 2 butchers, a taqueria, 4 icecream vendors, sevetal affordable local restaurants, and a few live music bars, and
- Inexpensive local buses, that more or less take you wherever you want to go in the Bahia de Banderas.
The room does NOT have a working AC, but we do have fans. Was noch ...
We are a (mostly) drug and alcohol free house. Yet there are options to party in the neighborhood.
