I was staying at Julie's house for around 5 weeks during autumn time and it was my first ever workaway-experience. Actually, I didn't really know what to expect and the moment I arrived in Nonza, I was stunned. The village and Julie's house (or should I say mansion?) is beautiful to look at and has a really cozy atmosphäre. Although there is still
… read more much to do in regard of renovations, it's a really cool place. The only thing I wasn't super happy with was the overall cleanliness of the inside. It wasn't extremely messy or dirty and it's completely understandable that Julie can't run the whole house by herself (it has like 3 floors and several bed rooms) but at least the kitchen could have been a little bit cleaner (and yes, of course, if it really bothers you you could clean it by yourself).
Julie herself is a super nice, helpful, open-hearted and relaxed woman. Even with language barriers, we never had any complications or arguments and I was really surprised (and moved) by how much she trusted me and was open to share nearly everything at her place. My main task during my stay was to restore the window shutter at the house. 4 hours a day and 5 days a week I sanded and removed the remains of the old paint and later painted them new. Overall, it was a nice activity, I worked mostly outside so I could still enjoy the good weather. During my free time, I either went to the nearby beach (around 15 minutes by foot), explored the really small but cozy village Nonza or went on a hike. At the same time, it may be good to know that there is not much going on in Nonza (and especially off the tourist-season (from October on). Most places (like a restaurant or café) are closed and beside the really nice tower with sea view, there is not much to see. There are also no busses or other ways of public transport. So, if you don't have a car, you should prepare that you normally don't come around much. For me, it wasn't bad at all to spend much time at the house or the terrace but for people who really need much social interaction, it may not be the best option.
But Some times, Julie even drove me to really cool places (for example a nice hiking area at the coast or bigger cities) and later picked me up. So with Julie, I really couldn't ask for a better host.
(The only thing I could maybe propose is to edit / update your workaway page :) As far as I know, the text was written by Jean, Julie's son (who I also met and who is super nice) so the descriptions partly doesn't really fit (anymore). Especially the information about the language may be misleading because even though you can communicate with Julie in English, she doesn't speak it fluently. In this regard, it may be useful for workawayers to speak French (or Corsican).)
In general, I can only recommend a stay at Julie's place :-)Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

The stay at Julie's house was amazing. The house is under renovation and I had the opportunity to help renovate a large room with painting and window renovation during some weeks. In parallel, Julie welcomes all good initiatives, whether in the garden (very big!) or in the kitchen.
We were several workawayers during the time I stayed and Julie
… read more was very caring with all of us. She is very good at making sure that there is a good atmosphere in the house : good vibes only ! Each of us had our own room, and if the comfort is not modern, the essentials are there to feel very good. We had the opportunity to share good times together at meals, to get to know each other and to chat. Julie is very open-minded and has a lot to teach us!
The village of Nonza is very pretty, with the essential shops during the tourist season. I still recommend having a car to get around easily and discover the Cap Corse.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

I had a great time at Jean's. He was friendly, laid back and welcoming. The big old house is so rustic and it's full of surprises. It used to be a gendarmerie and is huge. The garden's pretty big too so there's plenty to do.
Jean is aiming towards self-sufficiency so we were planting lots of vegetables. If you prefer painting, plastering there's

Julie made some excellent meals and I appreciated the effort she made for my dietary requirements. Jean is a very cool guy and I enjoyed working with him. It was nice hanging out and having a beer and a chat in the evenings. Good luck with everything and hope we meet again some time!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
