  Salam!
  
  My name is Said and together with my colleague Mohammed, we run a hostel and a cultural/environmental association in the Ourika region. Our lodge is located in Setti Fatma, a small Berber Village in the High Atlas Mountains, 62 Km away from Marrakech.
  
  Our project started in 2019, when I bought an abandoned building in Setti-Fatma to renovate it and turn it into a mountain lodge. When I arrived there, I found the building to be occupied… by Barbary macaques, an endangered spice of monkeys! We spent the next few years upgrading the facility and opened in 2023. In a conservation effort we provide information to our guests about how to interact with the monkeys that often come to pay us a visit.
  
  The situation in Setti-Fatma between the monkeys and the villagers is tense. On one side, the monkeys are protected so they can’t be chased or injured. On the other side, they eat the crops of the local farmers and break things, making the local population not to fond of them. These tensions led Mohammed and I to create the « Association de Zawia de la jeunesse et de la protection de l’environment », where we try to alleviate these tensions trough educational activities for the youth about environment protection. We also try to organise events for the youth related to sports and Berber culture.

  Je m'appelle Said et avec mon collègue Mohammed, nous gérons une auberge et une association culturelle/environnementale dans la région de l'Ourika. Le gîte est situé à Setti Fatma, un petit village berbère dans les montagnes du Haut Atlas, à 62 Km de Marrakech.
  
  Notre projet a débuté en 2019, lorsque j'ai acheté un bâtiment abandonné à Setti-Fatma pour le rénover et le transformer en gîte de montagne. En arrivant sur place, j'ai trouvé le bâtiment occupé… par des macaques de Barbarie, une espèce de singe en voie de disparition! Nous avons passé les années suivantes à moderniser l'installation et l'avons ouvert en 2023. Dans un effort de conservation, nous fournissons des informations à nos clients sur la façon d'interagir avec les singes qui viennent souvent nous rendre visite.
  
  La situation à Setti-Fatma entre les singes et les villageois est tendue. D’un côté, les singes sont protégés et il est interdit de les chasser ou les blesser. De l'autre côté, ils mangent les récoltes des agriculteurs locaux et cassent des objets, ce qui fait en sorte que la population locale ne les aime pas trop et tente parfois de les repousser, les blessants parfois au passage. Ces tensions ont conduit Mohammed et moi à créer l'« Association de Zawia de la jeunesse et de la protection de l'environnement », où nous essayons d'apaiser ces tensions à travers des activités éducatives pour les jeunes en lien avec la culture berbère, le sport et la protection de l'environnement.

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  We would love to teach you about our Berber culture, which is still very much alive in the village. Depending on the period of the year, you can assist to different celebrations and you can learn about our traditions (carpet making, artisanal work, local music and dance) by talking to people in the village. We could also teach you about the history of the Setti Fatma village and make you visit the mausoleum where Setti Fatma, a woman healer and the founder of our village and was buried.
  
  We often organise hike as Mohammed and I are both are mountain guides, so we could take you with us to show you different hiking trails.
  
  You could also learn a lot about the Barbary macaques. You can easily observe them from the lodge and we have a lot of documentation about this wonderful species

  Nous serions ravis de vous faire découvrir notre culture berbère, encore bien vivante dans le village. Selon la période de l'année, vous pourrez assister à différentes célébrations et découvrir nos traditions (fabrication de tapis, travail artisanal, musique et danse locales) en discutant avec les gens du village. Nous pourrions également vous faire découvrir l'histoire du village de Setti Fatma et vous faire visiter le mausolée où Setti Fatma, guérisseuse et fondatrice de notre village, a été enterrée.
  
  Nous organisons souvent des randonnées, car Mohammed et moi sommes tous deux guides de montagne. Nous pourrions donc vous emmener avec nous pour vous montrer différents sentiers de randonnée.
  
  Vous pourrez également en apprendre beaucoup sur les macaques de Barbarie. Vous pouvez facilement les observer depuis le gîte et nous disposons de nombreuses documentations sur cette merveilleuse espèce.

  Arbeit

  We need help with running the lodge and the association and would love your ideas and suggestions about how we could improve our work.
  
  Communication:
  - help with communication on social media for the lodge and for the association
  - Help with registration on different tourism platform
  - Graphic design of posters/ promotional material for the lodge and association
  
  General maintenance of the lodge:
  - Help to welcome the guests
  - Clean up the room after the guests departure
  - Help with preparing food.
  
  Language lesson:
  - Mohammed and I both need English classes, as we deal with hospitality and tourism for our work. We would love to improve our language skills!
  
  Environmental conservation:
  - Help with data collection for the work we do with the monkeys (behavioural observation). If you have a Biology background, great!
  - Help with creating material to put up in the village or the hiking trails to explain how to behave around the monkeys
  - Creation of educational material about the local fauna and flora.
  
  Work with children:
  One of the goal of the association is to provide different activities for the children of the village, as there are not many things to do around and they are often left playing by themselves unsupervised.
  - Organising sport events, sport sessions: If you have experience coaching sports or teaching yoga class, this would be a great asset!
  - Organising art activities: We do not have access to a lot of material, but some musical events or art making session with elements that can be found in nature could be great!
  - Help with supervision of nature walk: we organise small hikes for the kids of the village to teach them about environmental conservation and about the monkeys.
  - Language lesson for the kids. Teachers would be very welcome!

  Nous avons besoin d'aide pour gérer le gîte et l'association. Nous serions heureux de recevoir vos idées et suggestions en lien avec des manières pour améliorer notre travail.
  
  Communication:

  Cours de langue :
  - Mohammed et moi avons tous deux besoin de cours d'anglais, car notre travail implique des contacts avec de nombreux touristes qui ne parlent pas français ou arabe. Nous serions ravis d’améliorer nos compétences linguistiques !
  
  Conservation de l'environnement:
  - Aide à la collecte de données pour le travail que nous effectuons avec les singes (observations comportementales). Si vous avez une formation en biologie, c'est un plus !
  - Aide à la création de matériel à afficher dans le village ou sur les sentiers de randonnée pour expliquer le comportement à adopter avec les singes
  - Création de matériel pédagogique sur la faune et la flore locale.
  
  Travailler avec des enfants :
  L'un des objectifs de l'association est de proposer différentes activités aux enfants du village, car il n'y a pas beaucoup de choses à faire aux alentours et ils sont souvent laissés jouer seuls, sans surveillance.
  - Organisation d'événements sportifs, de séances de sport : Si vous avez de l'expérience en coaching sportif ou en enseignement de cours de yoga, ce serait un grand atout !
  - Organiser des activités artistiques : Nous n'avons pas accès à beaucoup de matériel, mais certains événements musicaux ou séances de création artistique avec des éléments que l'on peut trouver dans la nature pourraient être formidables !
  - Aide à l'encadrement de balade nature : nous organisons des petites randonnées pour les enfants du village pour leur apprendre la préservation de l'environnement et les singes.
  - Cours de langue pour les enfants. Les professeurs seraient les bienvenus !
