  Hi! I’m Renato, a 54-year-old Brazilian from São Paulo. I work as a freelancer. I started my career young, providing support for set design and construction for events, fashion shows, concerts, and theater productions. I specialized in high-altitude structural work—rigging and climbing—on arenas, antennas, and chimneys, handling both event setups and professional safety operations. I also gained experience as a business owner, snack bar manager, valet, photographer, hiking guide, and boat captain (piloting vessels for fishing, diving, and leisure along the São Paulo coast); that covers my first 20 years of professional life.
  
  I dedicated my free time and money to socio-environmental, ecological, athletic, and artistic activities.
  After completing a course on conservation area management and park ranging, I began working on the design and installation of public-use structures in nature and adventure parks—such as canopy tours, hiking trails, bridges, and campsites—applying holistic and circular principles, low-impact techniques, green building methods, and permaculture. I interned for three years with the São Paulo Forestry Institute (PESM). My focus was planning and executing canyoning expeditions across the three main watersheds of the Curucutu sector (each lasting 7 to 10 days), alongside daily park duties like monitoring, research support, tourism management, maintenance, and silviculture... and just like that, another twenty years went by.
  
  Creating things, improvising solutions, and rigging up makeshift gadgets or contraptions were all part of my set-design work and adventures; it’s a passion I’ve enjoyed since childhood.
  
  I bought this land over a decade ago to provide a yard where my dear friend "Odin" could roam. A shaggy, friendly, and strong mutt. He was found abandoned in a São Paulo square, tied up in the shade of a tree with a sign that read "My name is Odin." My mother heard the story and saw his photo at the hair salon, so she adopted him and subsequently passed guardianship on to me. It was a challenge to build mutual trust and reach the point where we could walk together—off-leash—through the streets of São Paulo. A dear friend and partner for urban, coastal, and forest adventures... :)
  
  A past I carry in my backpack—one that helps me understand the present and reflect on the future...
  
  I’ve been involved in volunteer work since I was young, mostly focused on nature conservation in public areas and involving friends.
  
  Now, this model—using the "digital" Workaway platform to host strangers in my home in exchange for work—is very different. It’s still a novelty to me, and I look forward to the experience.
  
  I built the cabin mostly on my own using reclaimed wood and other salvaged materials—including the doors, latches, furniture, and windows. It’s a simple house with minimal finishing touches or luxuries, yet it’s full of unique details and plenty of plants. The atmosphere is directly shaped by the sea and the Atlantic Forest of the mountains. There are various enjoyable tasks here for anyone who likes hands-on work involving construction, gardening, art, painting, textiles, woodworking, or antiques...
  
  I live alone, sharing the space with a few frogs, several geckos, and—as of a few days ago—a "beautiful and harmless" spider (where did it come from?) that spun its web on the kitchen ceiling above the sink. (It acts as natural, free, battery-free biological pest control for mosquitoes, occupying about 30 square centimeters of the ceiling.) This is the second one I've had here; I moved the first one to a new location, but it didn't adapt well.
  
  Daily visitors include birds and opossums... "Human" family and friends visit less often—except for one dear "grandson" (by heart) who really loves coming over to spend a few days. When he's here, my full attention goes to this distinguished young fellow. I join him in his explorations and discoveries of this new world of his, and I learn so much from him!
  
  Looking toward the "uncertain" future, I plan to invest more time and energy into building and maintaining this small space—cultivating a variety of plants and fostering a flow of people interested in this type of activity...

  Ola! eu sou o Renato, 54 anos, Brasileiro de São Paulo . Profissional autonomo "freelance" . Jovem iniciei a vida profissional com serviços de apoio aos projetos e construções cenográfica para eventos, desfiles de moda, shows, teatros ... e me especializei em serviços de "alpinista de estrutura" (higer) em ginásios, antenas, chaminés tambem para eventos e segurança profissional... Tive outras experiencias como comerciante, gerente de lanchonete, manobrista, fotografo, guia de trilhas, "marinheiro" piloto de embarcação turísticas para pesca, mergulho e lazer no litoral SP e assim foram os primeiros 20 anos de vida profissional.
  
  O tempo e dinheiro livre era aplicado em atividades socioambientais, ecológicas, esportivas, artísticas...
  Após um curso de Administração de unidades de conservação /guarda parque. "Ranger" Comecei a trabalhar com projetos e implantação de estruturas para uso publico em parques naturais e de aventura. "canopytour"/arborismo, trilhas, pontes, camping.. aplicando tendencia holística/circular e técnicas de baixo impacto, bioconstrução, permacultura... Estagiei por 3 anos para o instituto florestal de São Paulo/PESM. Tema de estudo: planejar e executar expedições de canyoning pelas 3 principais vertentes "rios" do núcleo Curucutu SP, (7 a 10 dias cada) e as atividades cotidianas na unidade eram de fiscalização, apoio a pesquisa, turismo, manutenção e manejo silvo florestal.... eeee assim passaram mais uns vinte anos...
  
  Criar, improvisar soluções, gambiarras /traquitanas fez parte do trabalho cenográfico, das aventuras, e é um prazer que me diverte e pratico dês de a infância.
  
  Adquiri este terreno a mais de 10 anos e assim oferecer um quintal com terra para meu querido amigo "Odin". Um peludo, simpático e forte cachorro vira-lata, Ele foi encontrado abandonado em uma praça de sp, amarrado sob a sombra de uma arvore e junto estava a placa informando (meu nome é Odin ) Minha mãe na cabelereira ao saber da historia e ver a foto adotou o bicho e na sequencia me passou a tutoria, Foi um desafio até conquistarmos confiança mutua, e podermos andar junto, sem coleira pelas ruas de sp. Um querido amigos e parceiros de aventura urbana, costeira e florestal..:)
  
  Passado que tenho na mochila e ajuda a compreender o presente e ponderar o futuro..
  
  Participei de ações voluntarias dês de jovem. A maioria em pró da natureza em áreas publicas e envolvendo amigos.
  
  Agora. Este modelo por meio de uma plataforma "digital" workaway, para receber pessoas desconhecidas em casa e com a proposta de trocar hospedagem completa por jornadas de trabalhos é muito diferente e ainda considero uma novidade para mim e pretendo experenciar.
  
  A cabana feita a maior parte sozinho com madeiras e outros materiais de reuso, inclusive as portas, trincos, moveis, janelas...uma casa simples com pouco acabamento, conforto ... mas cheia de detalhe, particularidades e muitas plantas, clima com interferência direta do mar e floresta atlântica da serra e diversas linhas agradáveis de serviços para quem gosta de serviços manuais ligados a construção, plantas, arte, pintura, tecidos, madeira, antiguidades,,,,,
  
  Moro sozinho com uns 3 sapos varias lagartixas e a poucos dias uma aranha (de onde?) "linda e inofensiva" construiu sua teia sob o teto da cozinha e sobre a pia. ("controle biológico natural para mosquitos. gratuito e funciona sem baterias" ) ocupa aproximados 30centimetros quadrados do teto da casa. esta é a segunda em todo o período aqui a primeira mudei de endereço mas não se adaptou ):
  
  Os visitantes diários são os pássaros, gambas... A família e os amigos "humanos" vem com menos frequência, exceto um querido" netinho" de coração que gosta muito de vir passar uns dias. E nesta situação a dedicação integral é direcionada para este ilustre rapazinho. O acompanho em suas explorações e descobertas neste novo mundo dele e aprendo muito com ele!
  
  Para o futuro "incerto" imagino investir mais algum tempo e energia para construir e manter este pequeno espaço com diversidade de plantas e movimento de pessoas interessados nesta linha de atividades...

  I have an old bicycle... as well as supplies for knitting, sewing, painting, and drawing, plus musical instruments and books that you’re welcome to use. I also have photos, maps, projects, and research materials that I’d be happy to show you and discuss if you’re interested.
  
  If possible, we could look into going for an outing in the area together—perhaps an adventure activity or a trip further afield—or I can offer suggestions and recommendations to help you choose your own excursions.

  In general, there is work to be done across various areas related to the construction and maintenance of a house with a garden, including machinery, vehicles, and equipment. Artistic input regarding details and finishing touches is also welcome.
  
  Activities vary depending on the weather, urgent priorities or emergencies, material availability, mood, and whatever work is the current focus during your visit.
  
  I believe that knowing your interests, skills, and areas of curiosity will help us assess and plan the priority activities to undertake during your stay. I am open to hearing your suggestions and proposals.
  
  I don't currently have a "standard" schedule for a Workaway volunteer's daily routine; I see this as something to be adjusted based on the timing of your stay, weather conditions, and your specific skills and interests.
  
  Regarding kitchen cleaning and meal preparation, I think it is important to clarify the arrangement, your expertise, and the type of menu. Personally, I have no experience preparing vegan food and limited knowledge of vegetarian recipes, though I do appreciate natural, varied, and healthy foods. In my daily routine, I prepare meals that include meat while avoiding processed and ultra-processed products. I tend to dedicate one day a week to preparing frozen meals to make things easier for the days ahead. On the other hand, I also enjoy spending hours in the kitchen preparing more elaborate dishes or experimenting with new recipes and flavor combinations.

  Hoje não tenho uma programação "modelo" para o cotidiano de um voluntario workaway e a meu ver isso será ajustado em acordo com o momento previsto para sua estadias condições do clima e suas habilidades e interesses.
  
  As atividades ligadas a limpeza da cozinha e preparo dos alimentação acho importante termos claro o modelo de troca, seu conhecimento e o tipo de menu/cardápio. Particularmente nada sei sobre o preparo de culinária vegana e pouco sobre receitas vegetarianas. mas aprecio alimentos naturais, diversificados, saldáveis. No cotidiano preparo as refeições incluindo as carnes e evito os industrializados e super processados. tendo a destinar um dia na semana para o preparo congelados e facilitar a praticidade dos dias futuros... De outro lado aprecio passar horas na cozinha preparando pratos mais elaborados ou inventando novas receitas e combinações.

  Unterkunft

  Accommodation is in a simple, private room with a bathroom and hot shower.
  The room is located at the back of the neighbor's property, but access and use are exclusive to guests staying at our place.
  The room is about 15 meters from the kitchen/cabin, and the path is an unlit trail with plants and dirt—or mud when it rains.
  
  Your room shares a wall with the neighboring house, so please be mindful of noise levels at night. It is furnished with a bunk bed, and the wardrobe has space for your luggage. Regarding the photo: it shows some clutter—bicycles, books, maps, photos, and gear—but for your stay, everything will be organized and clean (within reason).
  
  The cabin features a shared living room and kitchen area.
  
  The yard contains a compost area, a variety of native, exotic, fruit-bearing, and ornamental plants, a fire pit, an outdoor cold shower, a workshop, an artificial pond, various structures, construction materials, tools, and equipment... plus odds and ends, mud, and wild growth everywhere... :) However, this varies depending on the time of year and current priorities.
  
  The property sits atop a residential hill on a dead-end street, surrounded by neighbors on all sides.
  It offers a beautiful view of the horizon toward the west, and the climate is cooler and more humid than in the city.
  
  Local shops usually close around 5:00 PM, while bars and snack bars shut down around 10:00 PM.
  
  Power and internet outages are common during strong winds and heavy rain; in such cases, the mobile signal from local towers is weak and does not cover all carriers.

  The village is located 30 km from the city of Mogi das Cruzes, SP—about a 50-minute ride on a public bus. This line connects the village to the "Estudantes" commuter train station, which links Mogi to the city of São Paulo.
  
  There are about 10 buses a day running from the village to the city, with fewer trips on weekends. The bus stop is about 50 meters from the house.
  There are neighbors who provide transport services (like a taxi or Uber) to the city of Mogi and other nearby locations.

  A acomodação é em um quarto simples, privativo com banheiro e chuveiro de agua quente.
  O quarto fica nos fundos do terreno da vizinha, mas o acesso e uso é exclusivo aos visitantes aqui de casa..
  O aposento esta a uns 15 metros da cozinha/cabana e o caminho é por uma trilha sem iluminação com plantas ,terra "ou lama quando chove".
  
  seu quarto faz divisa com o quarto da casa vizinha e isso implica em atenção ao silencio no período noturno. Ele esta com uma cama beliche. o guarda roupas tem espaço para sua bagagem. no mais "a foto" mostra a bagunça com bicicleta, livros, mapas, fotos, equipamentos que para sua estadia estará organizada e limpo "dentro do possível" .
  
  Na cabana temos um ambiente compartilhado da sala e cozinha.
  
  No quintal existe composto, diversidade de plantas nativas, exóticas, frutíferas ornamentais... local pra fogueira, ducha fria, oficina, lago artificial, estruturas, matérias de obras, ferramentas equipamentos.. tralhas e lama e mato por todo lado. ... :) Mas isso também varia de acordo com a época do ano e atividade prioritária do momento
  
  O terreno fica no alto de um moro residencial com vizinhos para todos os lados em uma rua sem saída.
  Tem uma bela vista para o horizonte. rumo ao poente e o clima é mais frio e úmido do que a cidade.
  
  As atividade comerciais na vila encerram por volta das 17 e os bares e lanchonetes por volta das 22 horas.
  
  É frequente a falta de energia elétrica/internet com ventania e chuvas fortes. e neste caso o sinal de celular pelas antenas repetidora é fraco e não atende todas as operadoras.
  
  O local aqui é: Distrito de Taiaçupeba, município de Mogi das cruzes, SP.
  É certo que existem muitos locais mais atrativos e belos no estado de SP que receba voluntários. Isso me estimula a curiosidade de lhe perguntar o que te motiva em escolher aqui ?

  A vila esta a 30 km da cidade de Mogi das Cruzes SP. aproximados 50 minutos de ônibus "publico" linha que liga esta vila até a estação "estudantes" de trens urbanos e que conecta a cidade Mogi com a cidade de São Paulo.
  
  Horário de ônibus da vila para a cidade são uns 10 por dia e reduz nos finais de semana. o ponto de ônibus esta a uns 50 metros da casa.
  Existem vizinhos que fazem serviços transporte "taxi/uber" até a cidade de Mogi e ou a outros pontos do entorno..

  The main tourist attraction—located 8 km away—is a nature park featuring a river, visitor facilities, camping areas, hiking trails, and an ocean-view lookout. Reservations and an entrance fee are required, and only two buses run the route daily.
  Within a 6 km radius, you will find access to the reservoir and a quarry, as well as dirt roads lined with forest and scattered rural properties. Further afield, there are fishing spots, a golf club, inns, campsites, and other small villages.
  The village itself has a pharmacy, a bakery, a market, a pizzeria, and various bars, snack bars, and small shops; everything closes between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

  O principal passeio turísticos esta a 8km é um parque natural com rio, estrutura de visitação turística, camping, trilhas mirante com vista para o mar. Precisa agendar, pagar ingresso, tem apenas dois onibus por dia q faz o trajeto.
  em um entorno de 6 km vai encontrar acesso para a represa, pedreira, algumas estradas de terra com floresta nas margens e sítios e casas afastados e mais distante existem, pesqueiros, club de golf, pousadas, campings e outras pequenas vilas.
  
  Na vila existe uma farmácia, uma padaria, um mercado uma pizzaria, e os bares, lanchonetes, lojinhas e tudo fecha entre as 18 e 22 horas.
