Ayubowan, Vanakkam and Greetings from Sunny Sri Lanka and all of us!
We are an Urban Bed and Breakfast in Colombo, the Capital city of tropical, happy Sri Lanka - it is a modern and arty accommodation, currently offering 5 fully serviced en suite rooms, which are complete with all amenities. We have had the pleasure of hosting travellers from all continents, professions and preferences for over three years.
Located in a central, yet highly residential neighbourhood, we are minutes away from most of the major sites, restaurants, embassies and shopping centers of Colombo. The concept, the security and facilities we provide here are unique and are different from staying at a Hotel.
We are one of three properties managed by our Company and this stay will definitely give you the opportunity to travel and help with our other properties one on the gorgeous Nilaveli, Trinco beach on the East Coast and our country cottage which is in the Galle District.
I would like to host even two WA's at a time and have a minimum one month stay requirement. Please do read this profile carefully and if interested let me know about yourself, how long you'll be in the country, what else you'd like to see & experience, how long you'd like to stay with us and how you think you may help - and do ask plenty of questions

~ Help organize a cultural project
~ Grow us into a forum for groups promoting culture, empowering women and promoting human rights
~ Ability to participate in events- arts, music and theatre in Colombo
~ Interaction with our family and friends
~ Ability to travel and stay in our properties and properties in our network.
We are making a concerted effort and several inroads into promoting Sri Lankan culture through arts, theatre and drama - a concept that is dwindling in Colombo. We have launched a project to this end and will continue providing our place as a forum hub for groups and organizations who work towards preserving culture, empowering women and promoting human rights of marginalised communities. We also have introduced other experiences such as Shiatsu massage by blind therapists and Cook and dine experiences for our guests. Our team here is young and an integral part of this journey.
We will allow enough time and space for our travellers to experience culture in and around Colombo and to share and document these learnings with current and future travellers. Since our family is based in the same property - they will also have the opportunity to interact with us, our extended family and our friends - who form a nice likeminded network of positive, out-of-the-box people who have travelled in Sri Lanka and the world
We are looking for energetic, positive and creative people to help us in a variety of areas
- Enhancing the experiences of guests who stay here and our other properties - travel planning and accompanying guests if needed. This would include researching and presenting things to do locally
- Contribute to enhancing the quality of our rooms through creative and personalised value adds
- Creating a buzz in an arty, out of the box and funky way - music, arts, hobby lobby, jazz evenings etc.
-Developing our online presence through Online Travel Agents, website and social media.
Basically fun people, who can think out of the box and help strategize sustainable solutions that impact positively on the property and the local community.
We ask that you put in 25 hours a week in a structured manner that also permits you to enjoy and experience the area during your stay.
English, Sinhala, Tamil and little bits of French, Arabic and Hindi.
The travellers will be provided an room with an attached bathroom on the second floor - there is lift access and this floor is a stand alone apartment - in which one of the rooms are given out and the third is occupied by our mum - a lovely spiritual lady whose age you will never guess. She is caring, but also likes her quiet space. There is also a shrine room in this apartment.
The room available for WA is significantly smaller than those that are marketed through us- it is approximately 50 sq feet in size and the bathroom is a similar size. It has a fan and has an amazing view and breeze owing to the lush greenery in three of our neighbours expansive gardens!
Food will be provided - more traditional Sri Lankan food - mainly vegetarian. We generally have rice and curry for lunch and a variety of items of the day - roti, stringhoppers, pittu and sometimes rice again ( !!!!) for breakfast and dinner. There is also a pantry outside the room for a neat and tidy preparation of simple meals ( you can use the fridge). If you feel like eating out - there are countless places for takeaway, dine in and delivery in and around Colpetty. Its v convenient.
As the capital city, Colombo and the experience is quite URBAN. It is extremely green and quite laid back for those who prefer that pace. It is by far the most active and eventful city in Sri Lanka - with a mildly entertaining and beautiful buzz - whether you are looking for jazz, art, yoga, meditation, nature treks, health and fitness, street food to posh restaurants, dodgy bars ( there is actually a dodgy bar tour) to fancy over-priced ones! The closest beach is Mount Lavania and Negombo is about 45 mins away.
Transport is v easy w metered tuk tuks and we have a bicycle if that is preferred. It is an extremely safe and traveller friendly city and neighbourhood. Uber and a similar service Pick-me is freely available in Colombo.
We are every bit a Sri Lankan family ( Me, my husband, Romma and our 3 amazing kids) based predominantly in Colombo - and on occasion (not as often as we would like) make it to our properties in Ahangama and Nilaveli. So for those of you booking - please be informed that we are not based at either of these properties - but our respective caretakers will take good care of you.
We love to travel this Island, soaking in the diversity, exploring and winding down. We feel that the most amazing two things about sunny Sri Lanka is the variety of options for any traveller - all packed into this tiny little island, AND of course the Sri Lankan people.
We look forward to being your hosts and invite you to come stay in our home and experience true Sri Lankan hospitality. However, due to our busy work schedule and shuttling back and forth with our kids, we may not always have the opportunity to meet with our guests - but our loyal and warm caretakers will always be around, ready to see to their every need.
For any of you who has a bit of spare time to read a little bit about ourselves - here goes. We have had the good fortune of travelling in many continents. I grew up hopping from country to country accompanying my dad, who served in the Sri Lankan Foreign Service and every time I did, I couldn't wait to come back home and watch through the shutters as our plane landed in the midst of lush green paddy fields and coconut trees, surrounded by pristine teal waters of the Indian Ocean.
My husband, an electrical engineer by training and a leisure traveller/ entrepreneur through experience, chose to come back home to live in Sri Lanka, after studying and working for over 8 years in USA and working extensively in the Asia Pacific Region.
Again, we invite you and welcome you to our Island and to our home!!
