My brother Jude and I had such a lovely time with Carolyn! We regret we only had a few days to stay with her - if our travel itinerary had allowed it we would have happily stayed for a few weeks. Carolyn's home is cozy and comfortable, and she instantly made us feel welcome and cared for. She picked us up from the train station, drove us to the

Our work was outdoors, and involved trimming hedges, weeding, putting together a stone rockery, relaying a brick barrier around a garden bed, and cleaning out a garden drainage system. Carolyn did a great job of giving us clear instructions and advice along the way. She was always happy to answer any questions and made sure we took plenty of breaks throughout the day. We greatly enjoyed working for her!
In our free time we had many interesting conversations with Carolyn about Australia, traveling, current events, life, and more. We loved hearing her stories and thoughts about the world. It was a joy to get to know her! Thank you so much for having us Carolyn, and we hope to bump into you again someday!Vom Host für Workawayer (Jemma)
Jemma and her brother Jude were with me for only 4 days over Easter yet they achieved so much in such little time. From trimming hedges and weeding to revitalising one of my gardens with granite stone as well as cleaning out and relaying a garden drainage system, I could not fault their work. When work was over we spent many an hour talking about life in general, our plans for the future and the importance of family and friends. For young people just starting their lifes journey they were great communicators, very easy to have as house guests and an absolute pleasure to get to know. I wish them all the very best for the future and a lifetime of happy travel memories.
A big thank you to Victoria for being such a great Workaway. It was such a pleasure to have someone who was so willing to tackle any job in the garden. We spent many an evening talking about family life , travel experiences and dreams for the future. It was truly a pleasure to have Victoria stay with me and I would highly recommend her to any future Workaway hosts. She would always be welcomed back here!
I'm happy that I chose to volunteer with Carolyn and that she agreed to host me. I got to live in a very cozy home with an English atmosphere and a beautiful garden, where everything was very clean, beautiful, and comfortable. It was my first time in Australia, and I'm very grateful for the time Carolyn dedicated to me, introducing me to both the

During those 10 days, I did gardening work (planting and pruning plants, weeding, collecting leaves from the roof, raking, cutting trees), explored the area as a tourist (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Stradbroke Island, Tamborine Mountain), and also lived everyday life like locals: we went for walks and shopping together, cooked, and worked in the garden together. Everything was very balanced for me. I especially enjoyed our board game nights and long a-cup-of-tea-conversations, and that I got to meet Carolyn's sister and that she took me to visit her friends. Carolyn made healthy and delicious meals and always made sure that I didn't work in too much heat and drank enough water. I greatly admire her healthy attitude and active lifestyle, and how she also helps others as a volunteer. Thank you, Carolyn, for being so understanding and coming to pick me up by car and rescuing me from the bus station when I managed to miss the last bus again for some reason. And thank you so much for being so patient and willing to explain things to me repeatedly when I didn't immediately understand everything in English, and for helping me improve my English skills.
Having Chika and Soo stay with me was an absolute pleasure. They were happy to do whatever I needed doing in the garden, and in the house and they were willing to try their hand at painting , even though they had never painted before . English was Chika and Soo's second language however we managed well in making ourselves understood and by the second week there was a noticeable change in their vocabulary and comprehension.
During the time Chika and Soo were with me we shared many stories about our different cultures, family life and travel experiences as well as having lots of laughs over dinner.
Although only in Australia for a short time, I'm sure they will return one day when the travelling bug bites again! Chicka and Soo will always be welcome here as long as they promise not to beat me at Azul...

Laura and Gary are a lovely couple from Northern Ireland but found working in the garden in the oppressive heat and humidity of Brisbane this summer hard going even when trying to complete tasks in the coolest times of the day. so although eager to do whatever was asked, unfortunately, the heat really slowed progress.
