This is a fruit farm in the fjords of western Norway growing sweet cherrys and organic plums and apples.
During the last years I have got very good help from Workawayers to run the farm and slowly getting closer to my goal of being more self sustained.
The fruit growing barely provides for the bread and butter, but I also want to grow more of my own food.
My ambition is also to make my own electricity from the small river or from firewoods - so if you have knowledge, skills or experience with any of this you are more than welcome.
The year of fruit growing starts in January - March with pruning trees.
This is takes time to learn, so if you want this you have to stay the whole period.
Springtime is busy.
April: Cleaning branches from the pruning, giving fertilizer or compost, planting new trees and so on.
May: start cutting the first grass.
June: preparing cherry season and thinning plums.
July: thinning apples and start the cherry picking.
August: Cherry picking and starting plum picking.
September: picking plums and apples.
October: picking apples, making juice and cider and cleaning up after the season.
November: cutting down trees and preparing for winter.
December: preparing for Christmas holiday :) (closed for Workawayers)
I am looking for someone that preferably can stay for longer time and have a real interest in learning and working - not just a free place to stay for the holiday. I need people who is interested in helping out and is able to get something done.
You must enjoy life in the countryside and be enthusiastic about physical work, and sometimes be able to work independent after being introduced to the work. We live on a hill, and you need to be fit to walk in the hills and work in all kinds of weather- sometimes hot, wet or cold.
I am looking for people who are dreaming/thinking of having their own farm and people who are interested in country life, self-sustainability, and living close to nature.
In exchange I offer a separate bedroom in the house or a separate appartement, good food three times a day, hot shower, some home-made cider and spectacular surroundings. We eat a balanced diet of bread, cheese, eggs from the chickens, meat, fish, fruit, berries and vegetables.
It is hard to feed vegetarians/vegans here.

Hardanger is the biggest fruit area in Norway. I have been working as fruit consultant for 15 years, so if you want to learn about fruit farming this is the place to be.
If you are interested in an internship I can arrange that for a longer period.
The farm is dating back at least 3500 years. I have 3 toumbs from that time - one probably a kings grave. Later the vikings also originated from this area.
The farm house is from 1859, but updated in 2010 and is powered 100% on firewood for heating and hot water. I am also working on a system to also make my own electrisity.
This is a working farm, and the help required is related to the time in the season. Volunteers have to be fit and interested in getting the job done.
In harvest season the work will be picking fruits every day. This is serious work and efficiency, respect for food and hygiene is required.
We share cooking and keeping the house clean.
