… read more experience the yearly festival but there's always next year! Sandra and Paul are super great and extremely welcoming, we felt as if we were part of the family and we shared many stories. The work is not hard at all and it's very fulfilling, there's so many tons of apples that would otherwise never be used and rot away but thanks to Sandra so many people get to transform it into hundreds of litres of absolutely delicious and natural apple juice. I've stayed 1 month (initially supposed to be about 2 weeks) with this wonderful familly!
They made everything they could to make me feel welcomed and like at home! I arrived there only knowing 3 words of German, and after 2 weeks it wasn't even an issue with the kids as the older speak a bit of English and the younger will help you to learn

Regarding the help, I've mostly worked with Sandra on the fruit press and from time to time I also did some other works here and there. There's nothing complicated and they are always open to discussion to find something that suits you (unless of course there's something urgent to do).
The fact that I had my own room was great I was able to withdraw and rest when I needed to.
The only drawback for some people could be that without a car, it's a bit difficult to see around during certain period of the year as the family can be busy sometimes.
But anyway it's a great place to recharge your batteries : play with the kids outside or inside (trampoline, kicker, board games, volleyball, football, ...), have countless great conversations with Sandra and Paul during tea time or around the fire in the evening, enjoy their beautifull garden to read or chill...
I can only recommend you to go there!

Liv and her friends were able to get in touch with our kids quite easily and they had a lot of fun together. We really liked their easygoing way of life, the tasty meals they cooked for us and the evenings we shared together. They fit in our daily life quite easily. … read more came to the chicken house. We had to excuse, that it was waiting for being cleaned for more than a week - in the evening the chicken house was clean. No further comments. What a shame that he couldn‘t see the village-festival and play a part in it’s technical preparations - his area of expertise.
Over and above from Daire we could learn a lot about music and we showed each other loads of tracks while cooking in the evenings. And cooking, you must know, is another of Daire‘s skills... What a wonderful time. Thanks a lot!

Hallöchen! During September of 2021 I stayed with Paul, Sandra, the kids and Daire (also two cats, two goats, a lot of chickens and many apple trees) in Launewitz. … read more found really interesting, but we also did other tasks like plastering and painting walls, mowing the grass, feeding the animals or preparing and decorating the village for the festival. With so many things to do, anyone who comes can find what's best for them. Sandra and Paul are also pretty relaxed about the working time, which is nice. About the the accommodation, it was kind of improvised but good, my bedroom had to be finished during my first few days, but we installed an oven and I always had everything that I needed.
One of the reasons why I chose to go to Launewitz was to practice my German and I think it worked pretty well. I spent a lot of time daily playing or talking with the kids, also with the neighbours, and that allowed me to be less scared of making mistakes. Also attending the clients in German while we were pressing juice was a nice way of getting to know the language better.
I loved being able to travel around the region with the press, allowing us to meet the local people and enjoy the landscapes of the area. Also, going to Jena and Leipzig were some of the excursions that Daire and I did during our free time and it was cool. Although, despite all the apples that I ate and the juice that I drank, my favourite part of being here was the kids. Going around by bike with Ludwig, listening to Johanna and Mathilda playing the piano, or just jumping in the trampoline, for example, are some of the happiest memories that I will keep from this beautiful village.

… read more I couldn't help straying back into English just to fully engage in some brilliant conversations! The kids are so much fun, I've never laughed so much. Actually I learned a lot of the language through them. Such a varied bunch in age, personality, and interests.
The homestead itself is gigantic and fascinating. The pictures don't do it justice. It's a 500-year-old piece of history, with many lingering relics of a bygone age! In the garden near the hundred apple, pear and walnut trees they grow a wide range of their own vegetables and herbs. And have dozen ducks and chickens (fresh eggs!) and sheep. It's situated far from light and pollution so when around the campfire, with bratwurst and pilsner, the sky is massive and bright. The plans they have for the place are all exciting and ambitious but completely achievable once you get to know Paul and Sandra. They're the sort who just get stuck in and get on with it themselves. And they've done so much already. It's inspiring.
The work is so varied I don't know where to start! When I was there I worked in the veg garden, dismantled their four levels of a chimney, knocked down a building, dug a 11m x 1m trench, looked after the chicks, and installed windows in the guest rooms. None of which had I done before. So much to learn and do if you want to, with no pressure.
